I do wish more email clients could render markdown from a plaintext message (written with markdown syntax, of course).
Is there a specific reason as to why the most popular and promoted vaccines in the US target only the spike protein?
Hey Robert, I see you’re in New York City. Would you be comfortable explaining your comments to the 2/3 of black New Yorkers who are hesitant to get the vaccines?
It’s 2021. Like it or not, what you’re describing is common slang of internet youth culture.
Any chance they could recover some DNA?
Agreed. Navalny’s behavior is seen by many as “election meddling” backed by a hostile foreign power. Sound familiar?
I appreciate the links and your story sounds interesting. I’m an Orthodox catechumen myself and am very interested in learning to sing the Liturgy as well as other chants. Might you have any tips or resources on how one might start really learning (besides just practicing)?

Been following you for a long time Dylan. Keep up the good work and screw the inevitable BS that will come from these SV nutjobs
I see the other side in my family. They subject themselves to a nonstop firehose of seething Trump outrage and Russiagate. They hate the president but are obsessed with hating him. I’m no fan of him either but this doesn’t seem healthy. A two minutes hate that lasts 24/7.
It’s all a heinous mess. Just an endless stream of low-quality trash that addicts people of all stripes.
A perfect way to counter misinformation from foreign and/or domestic hostile powers. Sign everyone up. Whoever refuses gets a hit to their social credit rating.

I strongly recommend you don’t let your toddler watch at any type of media on a screen if possible.

Does the App Store for either iOS or macOS give any indication whether or not an application is open source?
I know that is not at all a guarantee that an app would be more respectful of the user's privacy, but I'd bet that it would save a chunk of guesswork.
>And while it's hard to be, "oh no think of the poor hate speech!" that tech is actually very scary when you start thinking about how much it can be abused.
Of course it will be abused, and it will be abused from the outset. The powers that be already define hate speech vs dissent, propaganda vs news, terrorists vs. freedom fighters, scientism vs science, et cetera.
Big Tech and Western governments together control of the flow of information. Previously, the blue-flavored regime held that control and abused it terribly. Now, the red-flavored regime has it, and people are finally noticing. God help us if people far, far worse gain that control in the future and start defining what is unacceptable speech.
Never heard of it—thanks so much.
Anxiously awaiting biologists, bioinformaticists, and other scientists to arrive to Mastodon en masse. So far scientists seem to be firmly entrenched in the blue bird site. Any recommendations along these lines would be sincerely appreciated!
I am squatting at https://mastodon.social/@brendes, lurking silently until more scientists show up.

Maybe try again; I use the calendar with Mac and GNOME native calendar programs just fine
I should have been more clear. Folders play way more nicely with IMAP clients as opposed to gmail labels, in my experience.
Been using them for a few years now and they're great. Some things I like:
- plays nice with mbsync
- sane system: real folders, not labels
- customer service with an IRL person
- identities feature
very stark difference for me on both my linux laptop and my work imac fwiw.
+1 for fastmail just works. good support, clean and fast web interface, plays nicely with mbsync + mutt. identities feature is a nice bonus.

FWIW, I grew up in an Irish/Italian working-class fishing town in New England. I definitely speak differently at home vs. at work the biotech industry, and I don't mean profanity-wise, I mean accent-wise and grammatically as well. I would certainly sound "lower class" to certain people if I spoke this way at work or at a job interview. I suspect many of my colleagues who come from a similar class background would do the same.
Yeah I'm pretty stunned at the speed improvements. I was getting a little worried there after Australis.
