This is a lot like what I tried with http://www.mindwallet.com. Here is a video if you don't want to sign up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNpAH7AGhIk

I like the hash tag syntax quite a bit. I love these types of apps and seeing how different people approach it. The one box entry is also a really nice touch.

This is a great addition! I'll have to start experimenting with moving off of SQL to Mongo.
Re:Share and Collaborate On Your WorkFlowy Lists on Friday June 17, 2011 @09:17AM (#2665378)
I had this going at http://www.mindwallet.com (demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNpAH7AGhIk ) about 6 months ago. I'm glad to see it finally come to workflowy in a much more usable way. Keep going guys. You have the dedication and the funding. I don't so I'm hoping you'll make this tool into all that it can be. This deal could be the next big thing with a few tweaks.

Add embedly and let me post facebook and twitter posts from workflowy and you'll be all caught up with mindwallet and I can start using workflowy again.

Re:ASP.NET Deployment Needs To Be Fixed on Thursday April 07, 2011 @05:28AM (#2418846)
git push appharbor master?

Maybe appharbor should open source their deployment routine because I sure don't have any issues with deploying my apps there and rolling back when I need to.

I'd ignore this feedback for now. I'm not saying that these people aren't important, just that you sound like you're solo like me. Stay focused on your product. These folks will eventually come in from the wild once the product is good enough and they realize that you're using fbconnect like they use the power company.
Re:Try Node.js for 2¢ or less in ~2 minutes on Friday April 01, 2011 @05:41AM (#2395633)
Yes. They are called Windows users. And I am one of them. I set up an ec2 instance last week using a similar process. I also got a cywin up locally, but I use the ec2 instance mostly.

Now that you mention it, Virtual Box would be a great solution and it would be great to have a guide walking through this. I used google to figure everything out and 'node.js ec2' is a query you get to pretty quickly when you have no starting reference point.

Re:Try Node.js for 2¢ or less in ~2 minutes on Friday April 01, 2011 @05:35AM (#2395614)
I spent the past week getting node.js up and running. This guide helps a ton. Thanks for doing this.

On the other hand I've learned more about unix in the last week than I ever wanted to know. I'm now happily hacking away at my code on my ec2 instance using vim and all sorts of funky commands. I still have no idea what nginx is supposed to do, but I did figure out how to turn it off. Yeah, me.

So, if like me, you've never logged into a unix box, you may actually want to try one of the harder guides. It will teach you a ton.

Re:MetaLab launches "Flow" Asana competitor on Tuesday March 22, 2011 @10:52PM (#2357736)
Your welcome. In what way do you feel it is unrelated? I'm doing something in the group collaboration space. There were a bunch of other links posted. Some of which I hadn't ever heard of. I though it was a good contribution.

Log in. Create an item. Share the item. Let me know if you still think it is completely unrelated. Unrefined. yes. incomplete. yes. Full of bugs. Yes. But it is an mvp and I need all the feedback I can get. Even if it is a little persnickety.

They are both a MindWallet competitors. They probably don't know it yet though.

Re:In Defense Of Note Taking On Twitter on Sunday March 20, 2011 @04:50PM (#2347365)
I'm not sure if I have an opinion of whether this is a good idea or not, but I did key in on context.

I've built tool at MindWallet that would have let these students tweet and capture context. Here is an example of notes I took at StartUp Houston a couple of weeks ago. It is in context and you can navigate up the tree if you want more context than can be found at this level.

http://www.mindwallet.com/?ItemKey=787541c7-0860-41ea-a21a-2...

A couple of days ago I added the ability to tweet in-line, from different accounts.

Here is what some of that looks like in context: http://www.mindwallet.com/?ItemKey=787541c7-0860-41ea-a21a-2...

Here is a horribly unedited video about how to use it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNpAH7AGhIk

Re:AT&T to Acquire T-Mobile USA for $39 Billion on Sunday March 20, 2011 @03:59PM (#2347211)
Someone at sprint is getting fired. Were they not just in the news talking about a network share with T-mobile?
Where can I get in touch with you?
Very cool. Do you have an api? I'd love to push my tasks in mindwallet into this. See my show HN post from yesterday here:

http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2340758

I'd love to get two way syncing going and dropbox saves is a perfect bonus.

I guess if I integrate with the drop box API I could just start dumping files to the user's drop box and they'd start showing up in your app?

Re:Show HN: MindWallet.com Insanely Organized Social Media on Friday March 18, 2011 @04:35PM (#2341858)
I actually do that. If you sign up you get a filled out list that has 'create my mindwallet' crossed out and a space to put a todo list for the day.

I'll consider getting rid of the list. On the splash page. The more I look at it the more I realize it is too much.

Re:Show HN: MindWallet.com Insanely Organized Social Media on Friday March 18, 2011 @04:14PM (#2341775)
Thanks for the feedback. Design has been my weakest link for sure. And I need to edit the video. Much thanks for checking it out.
Re:Show HN: MindWallet.com Insanely Organized Social Media on Friday March 18, 2011 @12:34PM (#2340913)
Thanks, I'm working on it. I'm still trying to figure it out for myself. It was something I know I wanted...and I use it constantly, but I'm still trying to figure out how to explain what 'it' is.

Ok...so where do I get started. I've seen a lot of command lines over the last few weeks and nothing in them gave me the impression that there was any sort of logic or automation going on. The all look like just one thing is happening. (And that is one of my strikes against them is that they seem to completely lack context)
I'll give you that the flexibility of the command line can be a help if you're really trying to do something outside the lines, but I'll disagree with the second. If we were in 1998 I'd agree, but with the remote desktop tools we have today there really isn't much of an advantage unless you are bandwidth limited.

Ask HN: What am I missing re: fascination with command lines

I consider myself to be a hacker. A fairly good one in fact. But lately something has been bugging me. The command line is making a comeback.Recently I've been really intrigued by node.js. It has been a freaking pain to get an instance up and running. Joyent? make a curl command line post(That doesn't seem to work). Git? Issue yourself a key via command line. Finally I get into duo...

I really like your text implementation. I've done something similar at http://www.mindwallet.com . I've added a social layer on top. You can post directly to facebook/twitter and keep the posts in context. People can reply in line by adding sub items to your lists. I'm trying to put an api together that lets users create all kinds of apps. I think there is a opportunity for this kind of interface. Maybe we should put our heads together.

Here's my 'how to use page': http://www.mindwallet.com/?ItemKey=787541c7-0860-41ea-a21a-2...

You obviously have a much better eye for design than I do.

Here is an example of how I used some of the social features to live-blog/document the SxSW startup bus stuff:

http://www.mindwallet.com/?ItemKey=787541c7-0860-41ea-a21a-2...

Here is where you can see all the public nodes that are going through the stream(so far it is just me):

Let me know what you think!

Re:Benjamin Franklin’s Daily Schedule on Monday March 14, 2011 @08:12PM (#2325143)
You should give it a try. You might surprise yourself. I recently started getting up at 4 just to see what would happen. I've got a ton more time and occasionally need to take a nap around 5-7pm, but other wise have been fine just getting 4 hrs a night.
Re:The strange story of etherpad on Sunday March 13, 2011 @03:32PM (#2320013)
Actually, let me be more clear. One of the core features is that we let you post to facebook directly from mindwallet. We then need to read your stream to let you know when you have new comments. The fb post and comments are given an inherent context by were in your mindwallt you post from. This extends the life of your post beyond the usual temporal stream. The perms we ask for are: 1: email to establish ownership of your mw account. 2: post to wall to let you do so. 3: read stream to show you new comments 4: offline access to show others in context comments when they look at your mindwallet.

I think I can remove friend's stream for now, but that is the only unimplemented feature.

Re:The strange story of etherpad on Sunday March 13, 2011 @01:32PM (#2319692)
Can I use that? Seriously though, I'm trying to figure out what to call it.

I'm adding twitter to the mix in the next releas...maybe that will help it live up to the name.

Re:The strange story of etherpad on Sunday March 13, 2011 @01:30PM (#2319686)
I believe I just ask for email, wall posting, and access to streams. I'll take a look at my config file.
Re:The strange story of etherpad on Sunday March 13, 2011 @12:31PM (#2319509)
It is mire than that. But you have to read past the first bullet and that is a problem. I'm still tring to figure out what it is myself and I use it constantly.
Re:The strange story of etherpad on Sunday March 13, 2011 @12:29PM (#2319504)
Thanks for the feed back I have a CSS nightmare and am looking for design help. It is clearly not my strong suite.
Re:The strange story of etherpad on Sunday March 13, 2011 @12:06PM (#2319433)
Future features. The goal is to give you a good place to org your friends and get the updates you are really interested in.
Re:The strange story of etherpad on Sunday March 13, 2011 @11:30AM (#2319359)
I'm trying to do something similar with outlines. It isn't so much a text editor as it is a social collection builder. I call it insanely organized social media. You can call it http://MindWallet.com .

Here is how I used it to cover the startupbus: http://www.mindwallet.com/?ItemKey=787541c7-0860-41ea-a21a-2...

You probably won't use it. No one else does. :-(

Re:Lean Startup on a bus on Wednesday March 09, 2011 @09:15PM (#2307671)
I've tried to keep track of everything here. If you're on the bus, I'd love for you to contribute to what I'm collecting. Just sign in, select the item you want to add to and hit enter. Start typing.
