Unfortunate that there's no stock except for the PoE variant.

I wonder if it's because the G6 is (afaict) launching in Q4? I guess we'll just have to hold tight for now.

This is admittedly petty, but I'm getting tired of bad actors reappropriating nerd lore (LotR) for nefarious products.
Re:argp: GNU-style command line argument parser for Go on Sunday March 23, 2025 @12:14PM (#43453873)
Also a fan of go-flags, I use it by default most of the time (unless the use case is so basic that the stdlib flags usage would be sufficiently simple).

I think my only real point of "frustration" (mild at best) is that flag composability isn't always possible (eg embedding/sharing common non-root flags across flag structs), IIRC struct tag eval doesn't reach nested types.

Other than that though, it's one of those nice libraries that just does a thing and gets out of your way.

I've had a similar experience as well. I had sort of hand waved it as being better due to tighter CarPlay integration (i.e. that there is usually, IME, higher-detail UX - which ostensibly leaves less room for interpretation).

I assume you mean Google Maps :)

I'm not sure that there is that much forethought. Perhaps?

However, you don't even need a honeypot - for example, Saddam Hussein's purge.

(I'm not a political or historical scholar, so it's entirely possible there are details or nuances I'm not aware of or don't fully understand, but it's what came to mind when I read this.)

Re:America Is Suddenly Getting Healthier. No One Knows Why. on Thursday December 19, 2024 @11:49AM (#42463266)
Genuine question: in your experience, does this increased focus on image create proportionate negativity in the form of e.g. increased peer comparison, superlatives (i.e. "I am/am not better/smarter/better looking than my peers") than your generation?
Re:Scooter: interactive find and replace in the terminal on Friday November 15, 2024 @02:45PM (#42150191)
I dunno, seems reasonable to me that we might have nice things without requiring everyone to use emacs. (And for those who do use emacs, I guess you're ahead of the curve?)
Fascinating that things only need to change when profits are at risk.
> [...] now he sends me a text message a few times a month for a coffee

Maybe he's bored all the rest of the time in the month when they're not having coffee together (the other 95%+ of the month)

Re:We're excited about our new roundabout on Sunday October 06, 2024 @11:56PM (#41762658)
Unfortunately, most drivers I've observed in the US seem utterly confounded by roundabouts, particularly the yielding part. The roundabouts I've experienced - there are several where I live - are mostly single-lane, and are still very nerve wracking to drive around because other drivers behave very unpredictably. Then again, I also see folks struggling with (or intentionally ignoring) queuing for 4+ way stops.

That said, I agree with your points, and I personally prefer roundabouts to queuing stops. They flow so much better, and really help to improve congestion/bottlenecking.

Re:Most gamers prefer single-player games on Thursday October 03, 2024 @02:02PM (#41733157)
As a lifelong and avid gamer, multiplayer games - in my experience, at least - typically trend toward highly toxic, abusive, sometimes degenerate behavior. Communities in which this does not happen seem to be quite rare (I can't recall one offhand). Trolling is rampant, cheating/exploitation is normal, and elitism is pervasive. It really takes the fun out of games.

These days, I generally avoid games that are multiplayer-only, and for games with multiplayer elements, I try to avoid those and focus on single-player elements instead.

It could be selection bias based on my gaming preferences, of course, but based on feedback I've heard from others who play games that I do not, it seems to be largely the same everywhere multiplayer is involved.

Have you used Chezmoi (https://chezmoi.io) before? I've been using that for a few years now; I'd be curious to understand how YADM compares.
Re:Ask HN: Who is pretending to be hiring? on Wednesday October 02, 2024 @07:15AM (#41719310)
I mean, yeah. It's still a them problem, because they can choose to engage or not engage in those practices while knowing the consequences. What are you going to do, never penalize companies when it might hurt their bottom line?

Just because they can't pay it doesn't mean there shouldn't be repercussions. That would be like saying that a person can't be fined because they don't have the money. AFAIK the judicial system will happily levy costs on you that you can't afford, and it is 100% a "you problem".

Re:Ask HN: Who is pretending to be hiring? on Tuesday October 01, 2024 @11:27PM (#41716881)
Sounds like a "them problem". If it weren't punitive, it wouldn't be a deterrent.
Re:Ask HN: Should you reply STOP to unwanted texts? on Tuesday October 01, 2024 @09:15AM (#41707943)
That only works if the marketing campaign exclusively uses the number you're blocking. In some cases - for example, political SMS in the US - it turns into whack-a-mole unless you unsubscribe properly.
Mortality can be a tough thing to accept. But, if it helps, just know that it is always a spectrum - it is never binary - in that everything has an end (as far as we, and our physical/cosmological models, can understand).

We've got it better than pretty much every other type of animal life on earth (with a few exceptions) - insects or our pets, for example - so while we might not have "cosmological endurance", let's call it, we've still got it pretty good. :)

Agreed that it's a shame we can't explore everything, though!

Re:America's Young Men Are Falling Even Further Behind on Saturday September 28, 2024 @11:26PM (#41684647)
Sorry, what?

Is this hyperbole? That is tremendously disturbing if not. Even if it was presented for illustrative purposes, that is in extremely poor taste.

Re:Smart TVs Are Watching You on Friday September 27, 2024 @11:59PM (#41677753)
Unfortunately, benefit to society seems to very rarely be the goal anymore.

Cynically, as time goes on, it feels more and more as though we exist to be maximally extracted from, rather than to enjoy any intended benefit (where the benefit is not a happy byproduct that exists only because it is massively subsidized by aforementioned extraction).

Maybe a "conditional allowance" (noting that the conditions may be vague, and likely vary among products/companies) would be more in line with what's happening?

Doesn't really roll off the tongue though.

Would you consider adding a "let me know when this is available in my area" notification signup (assuming you anticipate some delay between areas of availability)?
Re:Where have all America’s workers gone? on Saturday January 28, 2023 @12:24AM (#34555415)
I think the point is that, while it may be empirically relevant to you, it is statistically irrelevant in general.

The overwhelming number of families do not benefit from tech incomes, and actually do require more than one person to contribute to the household income.

Re:Email Marketing to Developers on Monday December 26, 2022 @05:00PM (#34142373)
Strongly agree.

The more that time goes on, the more that I feel like email is predominantly a combination of "automated account features" and "ambiguously-actionable spam". I'm sure some folks have meaningful communication via email, but for me - as much as I hate to say it - email is mostly a dead medium in which everything is suspicious by default because SNR is overwhelmingly low.

Re:I don’t want to be an internet person on Wednesday December 07, 2022 @09:35AM (#33894737)
You're missing the point; the hyperbole is used to illustrate how "person of Domain A" and "person of Domain B" may not have even basic levels of overlap within a given domain.
