Re:Ask HN: Where Do Seasoned Devs Look for Short-Term Work? on Thursday March 13, 2025 @11:47AM (#43354469)
Try former employers.

You've already got context, know the stack, whatever.

They might be happy to have a known contributor solve some problem or project for them.

PEX was originally developed by Twitter, and was used heavily within the company.

Twitter ran primarily OSX (for devs) and Linux (for servers).

I've found rclone 2-3x faster for large file transfers, personally.

Switched off of sshfs after that.

Are you... gatekeeping a mental illness you don't have? :)

I'm a software engineer with ADHD. I've been diagnosed by doctors, psychologists, and even imagery (SPECT scans). I work at a big tech company, and I'm very senior and well paid.

They're totally compatible. It's not easy, but by adulthood most of us have a lot of skills to compensate, and sometimes medication.

I'd liken focus with my ADHD to holding a firehouse - it's actually incredibly powerful, but difficult to control.

Right near 92 and 101 here - pretty urban - and we're on "possibly in the next 24-36 hours"
Mentorship and teaching are also valuable skills. Many good senior engineers would love to focus on them if their employer recognized it as valuable.
They can only trade one month out of three. Specifically, they can trade immediately after quarterly earnings.

This is pretty common amongst similar companies.

What evidence do you have to demonstrate the power of your invention? Is it usable, can you build a business around it and sell it?

I've got a lot of experience w/ the technology stacks used by big tech companies - a lot of time the value of things is not the idea but the execution and implementation.

I work at Twitter.

No, we're not. Probably just some rumor.
