I tried the Kitchen Game demo, and it is embarassing that they even released that...

1) This is a blatant copy of the game Overcooked. They just copied the whole concept + all the mechanics.

2) It it buggy, at least in Firefox it does not work. You cannot pick up a dirty plate. Somehow I picked it up, but couldn't see it. Then I could pick up a tomato, but when placing it on an empty plate it glitched into the cabinet. Then when picking a clean plate, my plate appeared again. Then it was over. ???

So from that we learn what AI can do: 0 creativity, just steal from real peoples work and do a shit job at it. As long as it looks good on first look.

Re:Apple, What Have You Done? on Monday January 26, 2026 @05:04AM (#46763736)
You can use tools like CleanMyMac to show folders and their sizes. All cache and library files are counted under System, e.g. files from vagrant, docker, vms, old jetbrains IDEs, caches from rarely used/uninstalled apps etc.

You don‘t need to buy the full version, you can just use the info and delete it manually in Finder.

> Siri does what I need it to do

Not true for me at all, it fails at the most basic tasks, sometimes even at tasks it has done before. Three examples:

- "Timer 5 minutes" -> Loading spinner is shown. Siri disappears after a few seconds. No error, no confirmation. I then have to manually check if the timer was set or not (it was not).

- "Turn on the lights in the living room" to which it responds "Sorry, I cannot do that". I have Phillips Hue lights that are connected to Apple Home, of course Siri can do that. It did that before.

- "Add tooth paste to my shopping list". The shopping list is a list I have in reminders. It then tries to search for the query on Google. I then tried "Add tooth paste to the list shopping list in reminders" which worked, but if I have to be this wordy, it is no longer any convenient.

There are many more simple cases in which Siri always / sometimes fails. I also have the feeling that it performs far worse if asked in my native language (German) than in English.

Re:Models of European Metro Stations on Sunday September 14, 2025 @07:41AM (#45239104)
I really like urban places with public transport on the street. It leads to less cars and more pedestrian friendly streets. Also I think for small distances (Zürich is not that big), I rather ride a bit longer with the tram than going down to a deep metro station, especially in hilly places.
Re:Models of European Metro Stations on Sunday September 14, 2025 @07:32AM (#45239053)
Can you explain where? Which tracks?

I have seen this comment on Reddit a few months ago, and some people were talking about it. They came to the conclusion that you cannot see the Sihl.

Re:Figma Slides Is a Beautiful Disaster on Sunday June 01, 2025 @02:43PM (#44152895)
This is a bad assumption to make. There are infinitely many reasons why the internet could be not working currently. This is just lazy engineering and a lack of testing.
Re:Orion, Our First True Augmented Reality Glasses on Thursday September 26, 2024 @01:10AM (#41654719)
Complex solution to a simple problem. Just ban ads in cities. Like some cities have already done. Then the ads that are left are just for stuff that is important, e.g. events, music, etc. No need for AI filtering algorithms that have to decide what to block and what to leave.
Re:Starcraft (A History in Two Acts) on Sunday July 07, 2024 @06:26AM (#40896488)
This is about harvesters, which is only the case when they are mining minerals / gas.

The commenter was talking about army movements, units which actually collide with each other.

Re:CSS Text Box Trim on Friday May 03, 2024 @11:01AM (#40248459)
Related blog post, that was recently submitted to HN: Hardest Problem in Computer Science: Centering Things (https://tonsky.me/blog/centering/).

This feature would fix alot of the problems with centering fonts (icon and text) vertically, which is currently not really possible, at least not easily.

Re:German Bundestag Passes Cannabis Legalization on Friday February 23, 2024 @11:19AM (#39482537)
The big advantage is that you can be sure that the cannabis you are buying is actually of a good quality. Especially in Baden-Württemberg (cannot find the source anymore), more cannabis that has been confiscated by the police was impure than pure. And you never know whether you get indica, sativa, 10% THC, 25% THC, CBD that is spiked with HHC, just CBD, or cannabis that is spiked with something else. If you find a good dealer that you can trust has good quality weed, than that is fine. But I have been buying from a lot of different dealers over the past few years (not random people on the street, people I know through other people), and the quality is always all over the place.

I never want to buy from any black-market dealer ever again, once these cannabis clubs are up and running.

Re:Show HN: PRQL in PostgreSQL on Monday February 19, 2024 @08:43AM (#39429629)
I think I read here on HN some time ago that it is intentionally hard to read to discourage posts with text. I think the reasoning was that posting links to external blogs / websites is usually higher quality than someone creating a quick post on HN.

Could be wrong though, just writing this from memory.

That is so funny, sometimes I experience the exact opposite. After connecting my MacBook to my projector (ViewSonic 747), all video (Chrome, Quicktime, IINA, etc) plays like 30x faster. The only thing that helped was rebooting the laptop.
Re:Microsoft's Adaptive Cards on Wednesday February 07, 2024 @05:35PM (#39295258)
No idea why your comment is gray, but I agree. The site looks horrible. The text is so thin, it is almost unreadable (at least on macOS). Not to speak of the constantly changing visuals styles and fonts, which make the website feel like a mess, something a backend developer (no offense, not everybody has to be able to make nice looking landing pages) threw together in a day before the deadline.
Re:The Eight Golden Rules of Interface Design on Tuesday January 09, 2024 @02:44PM (#38930952)
Great idea. Should also take into account misclicks directly after layouts shifts in some websites.
Re:Social media platform X suffers global outages on Thursday December 21, 2023 @08:06AM (#38719934)
What do you mean by "ignores the horrors happening there"? There is a daily coverage of what is happening, there are even live tickers and articles.

The reports mention what is happening in Gaza, the shelling, the ground invasion, the civilian casulaties, the humanitarian crisis (no water / electricity / no food etc.). I think one problem in this war is that there is a lot of propaganda going around, and there is not enough reliable impartial information. So just because the Hamas is reporting that Israel bombed a hospital (as an example), that the media will immediately pick up on that. For example, bombing a hospital sounds bad, but what if the hospital was acticely used by Hamas terrorists for ammunition storage, and even fighting from there? Is is now OK for Israel to attack the hospital? I don't think the media should immediately pick that up, because that information is not verified, and could as well be propaganda.

In my opinion, one of the reasons the palestinian people are suffering so much is because of Hamas, and how they use civilian infrastructure and hide in the population as their strategy. There is no way for Isreael to "win" without massive civilian casualties. And we should also not forget that Hamas is not innocent, they are not "just defending" their country. They started a war, which they are now loosing. You cannot attack another nation state, and then expect them not to do anything about it?

Also keep in mind that Hamas is recognized as a terrorist organization in Germany, while Israel and Germany maintain good political relations. It makes sense that Germany is more supportive of Israel.

Re:Advent of Code 2023 is nigh on Friday December 01, 2023 @07:56PM (#38494695)
Yeah, that was exactly was I was doing. For the left number do everything as normal, while walking through the string. For the reverse part, just walk through the reverse of the string and match the reversed keywords.
Re:Grimoire: Open-Source bookmark manager with extra features on Sunday November 26, 2023 @05:36PM (#38425762)
I am doing something similar, but far simpler: I have a chat with myself in Telegram, that I can access on all my devices (Telegram has a desktop app). If I want to remember something, I just write a message to myself with the link and some keywords. Telegram search is good enough to find most stuff easily. You could also add tags with a #, but I don't even bother.
> Also, where are trousers supposed to go now?

In the Kickstarter video she shows how you can hang pants with it: You split the coat hanger in half (where the 2 'triangles' are connecting by a plastic piece), and then just put the pants on half of the coat hanger. I guess it is the same as just folding the coat hanger and only using one half, but it looks tidier this way.

Re:LLMs up to 4x Faster With Latest NVIDIA Drivers on Windows on Wednesday October 18, 2023 @07:31AM (#37927246)
It is less convenient (by design), but you can always manually look for new drivers and download them. Thats how I do it.

Maybe someone wrote a script that automatically scrapes the website and downloads the newest driver automatically?

The images on mobile behind the text lead to pretty low contrast between foreground and background, making the text hard to read.
Re:Story Behind Hackathon Photo on Sunday July 09, 2023 @11:22AM (#36655213)
Normally, when you take part in a Hackathon, you agree to being photographed while at the venue.
Re:Airbnb removed my negative review on Monday January 02, 2023 @12:08PM (#34220370)
Next time use this simple strategy: Leave a 5 star review, collect the 30$, then change it to a 1 star review.

Ideally Amazon would do something against this, but I think they just don‘t care.

Re:Stop Writing Dead Programs on Thursday October 20, 2022 @06:55AM (#33272869)
This is awful to read on mobile. I tried but the formatting makes it really difficult.
Re:Muon: GPU Based Electron on a Diet on Monday October 03, 2022 @05:26PM (#33073918)
Why do you consider Telegram heavy, if it takes 400MB of memory? Isn't memory there to be used? I just checked my telegram client, and it takes up 600MB of memory, but the system has almost 4GB of free memory. Why should telegram limit itself to using only, lets say, 50MB of memory, if there is much more available?

I just started telegram inside a Windows 10 VM, to check if Telegram actually needs that much memory. In my VM with 1024MB of RAM, the Telegram client uses only around 45MB. If the system gets 2048MB of RAM, Telegram will use around 160MB, if available. The client still works fine. Probably a lot slower, but it works fine.

I think your comment is misguided. The Telegram client is not heavy-weight. It just uses the ressources you machine provides it, giving you better performance.

Re:If OpenSSL were a GUI on Friday June 10, 2022 @03:18PM (#31698325)
This does not demonstrate that at all. This just demonstrates how bad a UI can be, if no thought goes into it at all.

Not everything has to be visible all the time, settings can be grouped, and the user can be guided through the settings piece-by-piece, instead of just putting every option next to each other.

This does not have a GUI because making a good GUI is alot of work + the target demographic are more technical people that are able to use the CLI, so why put in all the effort?

Re:Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen3 Review – with Linux on Monday May 02, 2022 @06:30AM (#31233359)
Thanks for pointing that out. The Windows 11 dialog does not take any keyboard shortucts. I can't even use Enter or Escape, or switch between the options using arrow keys. This has to be a bug, right. Right?

I think it is literally impossible to exit the program without a mouse, after you did something that requires saving.

Re:Infinite Mac on Tuesday April 26, 2022 @06:05PM (#31173741)
This has nothing to do with the display, this is a MacOS scaling issue. Plug in a Windows device, put it at 100% scaling and it will be as sharp as it can get.

macOS is really limited when in comes to displays, because the display must have a PPI of around 110, or a multiple of that. It sucks how bad macOS is at scaling, especially with the terrible font rendering.

Re:Write plain text files on Wednesday March 02, 2022 @05:57AM (#30525964)
I mean you could also just use Markdown. Put the image in the same folder, so you don’t loose it, and then use a relative link from your text file.

If you are using a markdown viewer it should render nicely, if you are using a text editor there is just a path where the image should be, so also no problem.

Some editors like Typora can be configured to automatically save images next to the markdown file, which is really helpful.

Re:The Windows 11 taskbar is an annoying step backward on Friday January 21, 2022 @01:13PM (#30027562)
I do not get your attitude? Why should users "get over it"? Windows 11 is an operating system that should help its users complete tasks. Removing functionality (that is used by many) makes abosolutely no sense.

Many people have a lot of windows open, and many of them of the same app (not unusual to have 5+ explorer windows open). Not being able to directly click on the right one is a big loss. Just because you don't do work that requires that kind of feature, does not mean that other people don't need it either.
