Re:Somehow AutoHotKey is kinda good now on Thursday May 04, 2023 @12:18AM (#35811136)
Does anyone have any ahk file(s) they would like to share? I have (to me) a basic setup but I’ve never gone very deep on it, but I’d like to. As a new-to-windows user I REALLY miss some of the Linux key commands I’ve set up in i3.
Re:Laptop Brands with GNU/Linux Preinstalled on Saturday March 18, 2023 @03:32PM (#35212308)
I just recently set up my 2nd Dell XPS. The last one I switched between Arch, Gentoo, Ubuntu, and Windows as my itch to tinker kicked in from time to time.

I had minimal issues with any distro I tinkered with. Ultimately, the ol’ girl had some failing hardware components so I upgraded to the newest XPS model and will continue to do so until their quality declines. I absolutely love the machine.

Thanks!
Is that what Adventure Mode is? I’ve been playing DF off-and-on since 2013(ish), but I’ve never tried adventure mode.
Re:Evolving my note-taking processes on Friday September 09, 2022 @11:46PM (#32787611)
Oh that’s great! Thank you.
Re:Ask HN: Digital nomads of HN, how do you do it? on Monday August 08, 2022 @01:10PM (#32388225)
Interesting. Are you considered a “full time employee” or “contractor”?

Is there a better image format available?
Re:The historical accuracy of medieval city-builder video games on Wednesday August 04, 2021 @02:36PM (#28064548)
Personally, I prefer Aurora and Distant Worlds: Universe. Paradox games are fantastic but these are Dwarf Fortress-level detail (if you’re into that sort of thing).

> The most active author wrote 896,337 words, twice the length of the Lord of the Rings trilogy

This can’t be a “normal” person, right? This has to be a paid actor.

Re:The Conspiracy Theory Handbook on Saturday January 02, 2021 @03:26PM (#25616162)
I really like this breakdown, and I’ve employed it (to some extent) with various people. In my experience, however, it’s not so much that it worked with them; rather, they found the discussion frustrating and became despondent only within the conversation between myself and them. In other words, I didn’t so much change their mind as help them decide to not engage me on whatever particular topic.

I find that incredibly frustrating. Maybe I’ve rubber-ducked myself into realizing I’m not doing something right.

Re:Paul's Online Math Notes on Friday November 13, 2020 @08:56PM (#25089642)
I adore this site. I’ve taken some time off from Math and have been using this as a refresher for some Linear Algebra stuff I’ve forgotten.

What a treasure.

Re:Yelp to place “alert” on businesses accused of racism on Thursday October 08, 2020 @11:28PM (#24726477)
Maybe I overlooked it, but what’s to prevent a person (or group of people) from filing false claims of racist behavior? They noted it had to be a “first hand experience”, but what sort of proof does that entail?

In a perfect world this is a noble endeavor, but we don’t live in a perfect world and this could just as easily be leveraged by trolls and/or competing businesses.

I actually think the way you created it is perfect. Before I even saw that (above) line in your README I thought, "That looks so cool." Reminds me of the DIY t-shirts you see the Punks/Metalheads wearing.

Re:Skating legend Keith Hufnagel dies at 46 on Monday September 28, 2020 @07:35PM (#24622456)
Having grown up skateboarding and being totally consumed by its subculture, I feel this loss pretty strongly. How awful for his family. Condolences to them.

Forty-six.

Cancer..what a bastard.

Re:Ask HN: How do I learn to write better code? on Tuesday September 22, 2020 @12:55PM (#24556896)
"Look into problems, you'll find solutions. Look into solutions, you'll find problems."

God, I love this line.

Re:Git-Based Wiki on Wednesday September 02, 2020 @10:04AM (#24353335)
Oh man, I’ve found this sorta stuff will send me down rabbit holes for days. For whatever reason I find setting up personal knowledge bases as addicting as configuring my editor, so here’s my current drug of choice:

I have a wiki.JS instance which pulls/pushes to a got repo I have of org and markdown files. I have a keybinding attached to an elisp function (did I mention I use Emacs?) that creates or opens a templates, date-named org file with a save hooks that converts it to markdown and pushes it to my repo.

Now I have an easy way to share a page with anyone, look it up (and edit!) while I’m not on my machine, and lose _countless_ hours tweaking both my Emacs setup and wiki setup collectively.

Drug of choice indeed.

Ask HN: Infrastructure Diagrams?

Recently, isoflow.io was on the front page. While, I found it useful, I also noticed that it lacked a few features (many of which were pointed out in the comment threads). What are the recommendations for diagramming an organization's infrastructure?

( Read More... | no comments | on HN )
It _is_ happening. That’s the impetus.
I'm not sure it's referencing any actual Facebook posts by the Trump team. It's discussing the protest of the FB employees with respect to Zuckerberg's statement that FB--as a policy--would not label/block posts as Twitter has done.
Facebook owns Twitter?
Re:ReMarkable Tablet Gets Desktop Linux on Saturday May 16, 2020 @11:35PM (#23209369)
I agree completely with respect to the e-reader point. I was _almost_ ready to preorder V2, but that shortcoming gave me pause. I really hope they step it up a notch with that.
Re:For Roleplayers Who Start Writing on Sunday May 10, 2020 @01:45AM (#23130573)
I’ve wanted to try D&D, but don’t know anyone else that plays. Are there other mediums to play in (i.e. is “by post” still a thing)?

Re:A possible new back end for Rust on Tuesday April 21, 2020 @11:06AM (#22935534)
This is awesome. It doesn’t even seem that long ago when Boa was started! Man, time flies and people do great things. Kudos to the author and co-contributors for what Boa has become.
Re:The state of the restaurant industry on Tuesday March 17, 2020 @06:44PM (#22611390)
Doesn’t this fly counter to the recommendation of “staying home”?
Re:People who haven't bought clothes for a decade on Sunday March 15, 2020 @09:00AM (#22583231)
I always assumed that was from the pressure of leaning against things like countertops or being pressed between a belt and a car’s seatbelt.
