Probably not safe to assume my level of knowledge about any subject matter
I definitely agree in principle. But - without doxxing myself - I input my zip and the city is not correct. It’s a very close neighboring suburb (where the boundaries are definitely blurry) but it’s not the city on all the legal documents for my current house.
Probably closer to 30 years. Were floppies still prominent in 2005-2006 (legitimate question)?
But isn’t the second half of the article the author pointing out a bunch of menu examples from macOS Tahoe where some items have icons and others don’t and still coming to the conclusion that it’s confusing? How is that not a contradiction of the prior declaration?
Your point being?
EDIT: Looks like I fell hook, line, and sinker for the troll. Shame on me.
The variable name “nazi-enabler” could be simplified to “nazi”.
Suggested change:
- - nazi-enabler
+ + nazi
Needs a ‘(2001)’ in the title
Yeah, but our backlog is pretty stacked already. Going to be quite a while before we can allocate any resources to it.
Can't you just round up that statistic to 100%?
Got me curious. The Wikipedia page for the term basically says that the word means the different things depending on being used in an American legal or British legal context.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mootness
Seems like the word could be classified as a contronym in some sense.

Can you expand on your first sentence with some reasons or justifications for stating this?
Exactly. I read that statement and now I think I need to go to the ER because I strained my eyes from rolling them so hard.
I'm curious what he means by this solution harming vulnerable Americans. Are they the same vulnerable Americans that TurboTax tricked into paying for their product after enticing them in with promises of "completely free filing"?
I haven’t used it myself but I was going to suggest TinyCat. However, you mentioned that it isn’t suitable without going into specifics. Based on my understanding of the software and of your requirements it seems like a great option. Can you expand on what you mean by saying it won’t work for you?
My favorites were probably "Grave of the Fireflies" (warning: it's heavy and devastating), "Pom Poko" (very funny), "From Up on Poppy Hill", "Arrietty" to name a few. The fantasy-centered films are good, but my personal taste tends to lean towards the slice-of-life/coming-of-age films so that's why those were some of my favorites.
The only truly "bad" movie of the bunch is their latest from 2020: "Earwig and the Witch". It's computer generated instead of hand-drawn but it looks like a computer generated film from the early '90s. Just ugly and uninspired. And the story was not good. It had promise but did absolutely nothing with it. Very disappointing film. Thankfully, it looks like their next release (summer 2023) will be back to the hand-drawn style.
Ah yes, I remember doing this dance at the beginning of January. As you've discovered, there are about two dozen UX violations with this procedure. Thankfully, I only had to do this once; all the rest of the films played in Japanese by default from then on.
I think if you watch Pom Poko[1] with the dub, you're watching a completely different movie.
> Prominent scrotums are an integral part of tanuki folklore, and they are shown and referred to throughout the film, and also used frequently in their shape-shifting. This remains unchanged in the DVD release, though the English dub (but not the subtitles) refers to them as "raccoon pouches".

I think HBO Max is weird in that you have to pick the options before you start the movie. I found I couldn't change languages from the audio track or subtitles options while the movie was playing. But I can 100% confirm that I watched all of the movies on HBO Max in Japanese audio with English subtitles. AppleTV 4K.
Having never seen any Studio Ghibli films before, I watched all of them in release order last month, Jan 2023. I'm so glad I did. With few exceptions, the films are masterpieces of cinema, not just animation. Nearly any single frame from nearly any of the films would make gorgeous wall art.
I'd recommend anyone who is remotely interested in animation, Japanese films, or films in general to check them out. All but 2 (for licensing reasons) are available to stream on HBO Max. I believe they have both subbed and dubbed versions, though I preferred to watch with subs.
Single. Live alone. WFH since March 2020 and no intentions of going back into the office.
Wake up at 6. Get out of bed sometime between 6.15-6.30. Treadmill for the next 15-25 minutes. Shower. Breakfast. Meditate for 15 mins. Read or watch an episode of a 30 minute TV show. Log on to work at 8. Lunch break from 11.30-12.30. Work until 5. Eat. Watch a movie from 5.30 to whenever it's over. Read for the rest of the evening. In bed by 9. Asleep by 10.
Tweetbot was the only way I interacted with Twitter for years. I refuse to use the website and I refuse to download Twitter's app. When it was finally revealed that this move was intentional I deleted my Twitter account. I was mocked in high school for having a Twitter account (2008) and not a Facebook account. I remember "tweeting" from my flip/dumb-phone. I still don't have Facebook.
I don't regret being on Twitter but I am learning to live without it these days. There's something freeing about a cold turkey detox from that increasingly hostile social network.
Anyway, I'm just rambling at this point. RIP Tweetbot. Thank you for making Twitter usable. Eagerly awaiting Ivory.

Scroll to the bottom of that slide-up. There may be something that says "X images in iCloud". You can tap "Download" to download them all.

The good>Orange color scheme is fittingly Halloween-y for late October
Lol what? Are we to the point now where OS updates are so mundane that a highlight of the release is that the primary color scheme is "holiday relevant" for at most two weeks out of the year?
Not bashing Ventura - I haven't used it - I just feel like this is a weird thing to put in the "pro" column for a review of an operating system. Not that putting it in the "con" column would be any less weird...
> There has to be a way to provide different information based on who is getting the error.
Yes, this concept exists. The error message that is shown to the user (number 2) is what's discussed in the article. The error message that an engineer or someone else debugging the system should get (number 1) is the full stack trace and data dump that should be sent to the application log at the same time that the user is shown the error dialog.
Users can fix the problem by following the instructions in the error dialog and engineers or technical people can come back later and look at the more detailed stack trace to determine the best course of action.

Yes in the sense that I plug in my external hard drive to the new computer and point the new computer's TV app library to the existing library on the external HD. Then it will prompt for authentication the first time I try to play something. After that the movies will play.
