Yeah, I found the percentage of job posts with the keyword in https://www.hntrends.com when I was publishing it, was effective.

> Lastly, we’ve decided to end-of-life (EOL) Twilio Programmable Video as a standalone product. Given it’s such a niche area and a relatively small part of our portfolio, we believe partnering with video industry leaders is the best way to ensure long-term product innovation for our customers. Removing Programmable Video from our portfolio will also allow Communications to more effectively focus on our pillar products - Messaging, Voice, and Email.

For the "Ask HN: Who is hiring?" monthly trends, the data shows similar trends. [1]

* Remote positions have been consistently 60%+ this year

* Onsite peaked at about 23%.

* Hybrid peaked at 15%.

Re:Advent of Code 2023's new AI/LLM Policy on Monday October 16, 2023 @08:38PM (#37908698)
Agreed, that was the sentiment I was aiming for, separating the competition aspect from the getting better at programming aspect. The policy with respect to competition seems fine. The follow-on in parens to the policy was the part I was referring to:

> (If you want to use AI to help you solve puzzles, I can't really stop you, but I feel like it's harder to get better at programming if you ask an AI to do the programming for you.)

Re:Advent of Code 2023's new AI/LLM Policy on Monday October 16, 2023 @01:18PM (#37903050)
Right, the policy seemed fine to me until it got to this part. AI can be a way to get better at programming too. When I was learning Elixir, I watched José Valim work through the AoC puzzles[0] and followed along, typing in what José had and then working to understand it. José was doing the programming but it helped me get better at programming I think.

Re:Rails 7.1 Released on Friday October 06, 2023 @12:56AM (#37787231)
A friend of mine joked a couple weeks ago that if a Rails release is announced but I hadn't submitted a PR (to upgrade), has it really happened?

Well, here we go, PR coming up. Even if it has to stack behind the 7.0 one that's been sitting there for months.

Campnab is a must have for the RVers/campsers I know. https://campnab.com/
Looks like the same team that was shown on 60 Minutes the other week?

Re:I Bought Back My Acquihired Startup on Thursday March 23, 2023 @07:06PM (#35282747)
This is great, I love to see these work out. This type of re-acquisition can be difficult to see through to completion. The acquiring company has moved on and doesn't want to spend resources on dealing with it. I had tried to do this too at one point but then then newish CEO of the company we were trying to buy it back from was gone and we sorta gave up.

Re:Lowest “Who is hiring?” Post Count in 30 Months on Tuesday October 04, 2022 @02:41PM (#33084816)
Leading indicator of the (overall) tech job market is a better way to put it. The job postings in The Who Is Hiring? threads are a small sliver of the overall industry.
Re:Lowest “Who is hiring?” Post Count in 30 Months on Tuesday October 04, 2022 @01:59PM (#33084202)
I believe the intent is to share as a possible leading indicator. I don't know the OP's exact reasoning, but I have tracked this data for years at hntrends.com and it was my original thesis that this thread is a leading indicator of the tech job market at a minimum.

Re:Twenty years of my blog on Monday June 13, 2022 @01:43PM (#31728825)
Thank you Simon, truly an incredible job creating, learning, and sharing with the world. Definitely one of my biggest inspirations as nearly every day there is a new discovery in the feed or on twitter.
Had a similar thought a few years ago and added a total posts chart to go along with the technology trends, https://www.hntrends.com/2022/may.html

Looks like you have June 2021 as the all time high as well. Doesn't look like June 2022 is going to get even close, which makes sense based on current freezes/layoffs.

I run https://www.hntrends.com on a $5/month box and never had a problem with spikes. Generated, static resources all the way.
FYI, the link in the copyright/footer is broken.

Re:Some thoughts on writing on Monday December 13, 2021 @07:47PM (#29546769)
For some context, the likely reason that this is on the front page is that most of his essays, which are many, do very well on HN[1]. If you consider that body of work, this may be a more interesting insight into writing to explore.
