no, I dont use it at all lol
Hard disagree, for the vast majority of Dev work this is not the case.
Pretty funny tbh, it is amazing these clowns have so much influence over such large investments...

We already have a no-LLM policy where I work, and we're moving faster and delivering bigger features than ever.
Indirectly is doing a lot of work there. The US is an extremely disenfranchised place, and the choices are both pro-capital and will never actually represent the people in any meaningful sense. This liberal individualism framing only serves to bolster nationalism and divide groups when what we really need to be doing is recognizing our shared goals, with "we" being the international "we", and figure out who our enemies really are.
Bold of you to assume we have any say...
Hopefully riseup can pick up some of the slack here, but more decentralized services are needed.
Equating the two seems pretty "radically centrist". Also I'm not so sure that's accurate given that the far right continues to gain legal political power in the EU (and the US for that matter).
I mean, if they relinquish their ownership of the plane and joined in with some sort of council that determined how to manage such assets I bet everyone claiming to be an anarchist would be fine with it. Anarchy as a political ideology doesn't mean no rules, it means no rulers.
Maybe for big companies that irresponsibly vendor-locked themselves, but I work at a SMB (~60 employees) and we switched to Forgejo in a couple days
We are a franchisor the owns 2 concepts, both of which are thrift stores aimed at different demographics. We write all of our software in-house and its actually a surprisingly "fun" context.
The business had pretty questionable (read: bad) software for a long time, then came under new management a few years ago. I joined just under two years ago and since then we've been modernizing the code with an eye to move it off of the in-store servers its running on currently and into the cloud. That is complicated by the fact that the franchisees are not used to certain things, like really needing to have reliable internet with a failover, so we've had to (or had the opportunity) do some serious hardening on the in-store servers and how we deploy software to them. We've switched them all to immutable OSes, added a bunch of telemetry, and added some new services that are slowly eating the old ones' responsibilities and will be much easier to move to the cloud.
Also the winters are ok but not as nice as they used to be. I grew up here so I remember when they were extremely snowy and I miss that, now they're fairly grey and mild.
Where I work we actively ban LLM use in development. We're hiring too so if you're willing to live in Salt Lake City...
Same here! The slight difference being I'll just do something else for money and code purely for fun if hand written code stops being economically viable. I'll highly confident that won't happen though.
Happier everyday to completely avoid this cognitohazard. I'm lucky to be on a team with a no-LLM policy too!
Despite that, some other parts of the business are trying their hands at playing slop slots...
Very happy to work somewhere where sanity has triumphed over AI madness...
In my experience moving from GH to Forgejo was trivial, largely because the actions are mostly compatible and importing the repos can be automated. The amount of time it took was definitely less than the 5-8 hours of downtime that GHA had yesterday.
Oh yeah, you wont catch me defending the US government one bit.
What I'm saying is a group of people in a community taking up arms to defend themselves is not inherently the same as a drug cartel.
Im shocked this is still going on... We moved our repos at work to a self-hosted Forgejo 2 months ago because the regular outages were getting ridiculous, looks like a pretty good call now.
Honestly I dont think I've seen a tool I used regularly with such a moat lose it simply because they cant keep the service up. Also its hard to not see a pretty strong correlation between a bunch of these big companies doubling down on AI and just having their service go to s%#$. We've had similar issues with Digital Ocean recently, which is pretty lined up with them adding a bunch of "inference" services and rebranding the site to add all the "agent" marketing slop. Looking to move to Hertzner when the time allows.
Not sure its fair to equate a gang fueled by drug smuggling to a self-defense militia.
> For seconds, this proves that Codeberg may in the future ban any project.
Thats the cost of hosting your code on a platform you dont control. Its nothing new either ideologically or practically, large forges have been banning repos for years.
>Third, this reeks of children playing politics.
This is the age old liberal way of whining about political action they dont like, they rarely critique the actual decision but target "how" it was done. You can view it as "childish" if you want, but for those of us that see these tools as inherently bad an outright ban is the correct and decisive move. Folks seem to think that if a political action isnt technocratic enough it is childish, but really its the type of action we need more of. There isnt nuance to these tools in many folks' minds, they are a scourge and should be banned as swiftly as possible.
How is that inherently a strawman? Thats just talking about a group of people with a vague, and intentionally vague given the quotations, shared support for a tool.
No way am I going to trust a heavily LLM-generated app as a replacement to Briar...
Hasnt this already been thoroughly discussed? Your ability to do X degrades as you offload it more frequently, eventually to the point that you can no longer even vet the quality of the output.
I think the parent is saying now that that is attempting to be applied to "creativity" directly, as opposed to something like a shift of medium, that it threatens many peoples' ability to maintain creative capabilities.
Anecdotally I've already experienced this at work where post-AI we had a junior completely stagnate and a senior with over a decade of experience in the bay atrophy to the point that he had to be let go.
What do you mean we don't? Our cities seem quite safe...
Gotta get a GPS for my house lol
It doesn't require an app, hell if you even want a modem in it you need to pay extra.
Edit: it only needs an app for updates, which isn't notably different than taking you older pre-modem cars into the dealer for updates. Also I can't find any evidence that the base model even has a GPS built in.
Strange to put Framework in this category... They seem reasonably successful and even the company I work at is switching to them.
Still working on CopDB, started adding jurisdictions outside of Utah and were thinking about doing some mass imports from select other data sources.
