Re:I hate wasted documentation on Saturday September 08, 2012 @12:58PM (#4493322)
Would love to hear HN's thoughts on the idea that less is more earlier on and more is more later on in the product development life cycle.
Re:How to motivate (and avoid demotivating) teams on Sunday August 26, 2012 @05:34PM (#4436301)
Hey guys - by no means does this post profess to be comprehensive, so I'm hoping to stimulate a larger discussion around this issue. Anybody who works in software should be able to relate on some level...

Thanks in advance!

Me too. If you are interested in keeping it good, I can make you a mod.

Send it around to some ppl and if it catches on, we can start weeding out bad submissions. Theoretically it could be a GREAT way to discover.

Greetings Hackers - figured I'd give you the heads up that as of this AM, I couldn't find a solid sub-reddit for Spotify playlist discovery...

And so it came to be that I created /r/SpotifyPlaylists

Would love to turn it into a vibrant sub-community for music discovery.

Re:Show HN: Who's Hiring? (postings mined from Twitter) on Wednesday October 12, 2011 @01:37PM (#3103690)
Robin,

Nice, simple idea - solid MVP. Good use case for text processing too because the domain of candidate phrases, patterns you are looking for is relatively small :)

Here are UX some suggestions:

-It will require some effort, but you should try to surface companies as tags if you can. Will be a popular feature...We did this at my last startup Tracked.com and it was a really popular. You can start by getting a list of companies via Crunchbase API and then use that set to do the entity extraction.

-Same as above, but for programming language keywords

-Show timestamps of Tweets (you've heard this a lot)

-Make links hypertext (you've heard this a lot)

Thanks,

@mileslennon

Why not connect your Twitter account? We won't post anything on your behalf...perhaps we should have made that clearer :/
Re:Why are 95% of blogs abandoned? on Tuesday October 11, 2011 @04:40PM (#3100202)
Not yet but this is something multiple people have asked for.
Re:Why are 95% of blogs abandoned? on Tuesday October 11, 2011 @02:47PM (#3099799)
What would make you stick to it? Or am I asking the wrong question: Does it even matter to you that you do stick to it?
Re:Why are 95% of blogs abandoned? on Tuesday October 11, 2011 @02:36PM (#3099750)
Ha! That blog is an awesome idea. So may ideas left to die (or...live on?) - I can completely relate...believe me. If you ever wanted guest contributors to THAT, I think there are probably a few others who can relate who read HN.
Re:Why are 95% of blogs abandoned? on Tuesday October 11, 2011 @02:25PM (#3099720)
Really like the insight you made about conversation starting. The problem is that most people won't believe they can actually attract the audience needed to create a fertile conversation on their blog.
Re:Why are 95% of blogs abandoned? on Tuesday October 11, 2011 @02:17PM (#3099690)
Thanks for the feedback. We did this in 8-10 hours - we left a lot out :)

The difference I guess is that we tried to create a blogging service that isn't a blog you need to maintain to feel good about.

Re:Why are 95% of blogs abandoned? on Tuesday October 11, 2011 @02:14PM (#3099676)
Glad you like it. Feel free to pimp it/use it whenever you want :)

Anyway - if we can find the time, we may release new features in the near-term that will make it even more interesting! Or we might just procrastinate and not do anything...

Re:Why are 95% of blogs abandoned? on Tuesday October 11, 2011 @02:02PM (#3099621)
+1 to self-indulgent and maniacal domain hunting!!!
Re:Why are 95% of blogs abandoned? on Tuesday October 11, 2011 @02:01PM (#3099615)
Regarding, TwitLonger and Google+ - yes, the distinction is not strong. We've built a POC but want to add features that make each post more "special." Because we're divorcing posts from blogs, each post can look different :)

I hear you on the antidote, but I'm not sure it will work for most people. In fact, many people don't have an "expertise" to share and are looking to post thoughts about non-work-related material.

Re:Why are 95% of blogs abandoned? on Tuesday October 11, 2011 @12:54PM (#3099321)
Would love to hear anyone's thoughts on Postary or blog abandonment in general here! Thanks in advance guys!

Google has been doing this for some time now.

Ask HN: Optimizing conversion rates for downloads

Greetings hackers/entrepreneurs,I'm the Product/UX guy at GameGround (www.gameground.com), a startup aiming to create a lot of new engagement in games across many game platforms. I'd greatly appreciate any advice, tips or sources of information you can offer me for the following.1) We are currently monitoring the funnel and A/B testing various copy/layouts in our app download and installation...

USvsTHEM also allows you to send and receive debate challenges with Twitter, which is a neat convenience.
Re:Please review KartMe on Friday October 09, 2009 @12:03PM (#871674)
I didn't understand what the site was about. Seems like a wishlist of all items.
Re:The Size of Social Networks: Primates on Facebook on Thursday March 05, 2009 @11:08AM (#504387)
One of the things I found most interesting was that out of the 140 friends on Facebook that on average people have, only 7 of those friends are communicated with via wall posts and messages. There is irony in the fact that although online networks reduce friction in communication, the communication is very infrequent.
Re:Why TV Lost on Tuesday March 03, 2009 @11:23PM (#502534)
Tv usage is up more than ever and continues to grow every year. I don't think TV has lost at all yet. And I don't agree that networks are grudgingly putting content online. Hulu is an object of much affection in the video viewing world, so much so that it warranted Super Bowl ad space.
