Re:Color Snapper: "The missing color picker for Mac OS X" on Tuesday March 15, 2011 @10:33AM (#2327605)
You can also make your own with the standard Mac color picker. Open up AppleScript Editor, and type this:

    choose color
From there, File -> Save As, and choose the "Application" file format. Done!
Re:Facebook blames bug for Zuckerberg 'hacking' on Thursday January 27, 2011 @11:07AM (#2148313)
I think a key takeaway from this whole story is that Zuckerberg, like Jobs with Apple, is basically Facebook in the eyes of the outside world, and so attacks on the company are going to be attacks on him personally. It's no secret that he has positioned himself as this magical founder-figure, he'll just need to take that into consideration now that Goldman is allowing the (very rich) masses to invest in his company.

Excellent. Maybe they'll be able to hire someone to get rid of all that inline Javascript.
Re:Starting your first company on Saturday November 06, 2010 @06:50PM (#1877967)
Whatever happened to offering a good or service that people are willing to pay for? Is this really what makes a good business? Absorbing information from "all tech blogs everyday" so that you can regurgitate it on your blog, on your twitter, and at networking meetings?

This blog post reads more like a list of instructions on how to be the prettiest girl at the startup scene dance. These ideas are fine if the people writing the blogs and mingling at networking meetings are your potential customers, but I think most of us would be better served by getting away from all of that to talk to the people outside of the echo chamber. You know, the ones with wallets that MBAs like this guy only come in contact with when they're poring over a spreadsheet.

Re:Ask HN: Best jQuery resources? on Thursday November 04, 2010 @07:13PM (#1871240)
http://jqapi.com has a better search feature than api.jquery.com (handy when you're looking for functions like each() and is())
Re:Ask HN: What are you reading right now? on Wednesday November 03, 2010 @01:41PM (#1865644)
I am also reading Kafka on the Shore by Murakami.

Before that I read Norweigan Wood and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End Of The World by Murakami, as well as Godel, Escher, Bach which took forever (I read on the subway).

The long and short: changing the CSS of a parent element of a flash movie causes the flash movie to reload.

Re:Enterprise Javascript is... on Tuesday October 19, 2010 @11:52AM (#1807525)
Enterprise Javascript is making blanket statements about the coding styles of some fictitious out group in order to attract attention to yourself.
I think the idea with the title was that the new iPod Nano should function as a remote and display for the iPhone.

F2 renames in Windows, if I recall correctly.
Re:No, you are not "running late", you are rude & selfish on Wednesday September 15, 2010 @03:53PM (#1695620)
This may be true, and you probably choose your place of employment to reflect the fact that you are not a morning person. However, this article isn't about you personally, and it isn't about a specific time either.
Re:No, you are not "running late", you are rude & selfish on Wednesday September 15, 2010 @03:45PM (#1695588)
The three hours wasted was actually just 20 minutes of 10 people's time. Forcing people to sit and wait for 10 minutes is totally passive aggressive.

Also, not every employee can accomplish that much in 10 minutes. A support or business person could fire off an e-mail or two, but an engineer suffers when time is broken into small chunks. Engineers are also paid pretty well, so when you're talking about 3 hours of "engineer-time" wasted, the cost to the company adds up.

Or that you're a pretentious rich kid.

Re:Ask HN: How do you deal with suicidal thoughts ? on Thursday July 15, 2010 @07:16PM (#1519609)
> Stop drinking if you lose control of yourself while drunk, especially if you're a sad drunk. Or at least limit the number of drinks you consume.

Coming from someone who struggles with anxiety and paranoia, the first thing I was told when I went to the psychiatrist was to quit drinking. I am by no means an alcoholic, but I used to go out probably twice a week and I'd also have a beer after work to unwind.

The results were like night and day. All I had to do was not drink during the week and go out less (maybe once every two weeks). You may not be in this boat, but if you are you're doing yourself a favor to cut back.
