The argument goes, the purpose of prediction markets is not to be fair, it's to provide information. Allowing insider trading benefits that purpose. And I think that's fair - this is not a place to invest your retirement savings, it's essentially gambling.

Simple and clever. One concern I have is in my experience the kindle displays are quite fragile, I would worried it would break mounted like that.

The finite supply is a feature, not a bug. I agree there are many aspects of bitcoin that suck, but not this one. We are right now witnessing many governments printing more and more money, which makes it less and less valuable. Bitcoin avoids that.

A different one at that. But other 2-letter queries return normal sets of results.

If I listen carefully, I can tell the difference between 48 and 50hz using a sine generator (although it's very subtle), so I'd guess that you possibly could.

Yes! This is a major issue even in moderate traffic. They could probably adapt the under-side lights to function as turn signals. The scooters are just too narrow to drive one-handed.
Re:How Restaurants Got So Loud

Yes! It seems like somehow many bar/restaurant owners have no interest in making their spaces sonically comfortable. I've been in some that felt like they were designed for maximum reverb. The few ones with acoustic panels on the walls / ceilings are so nice in comparison. I really hope caring about the way your place sounds becomes standard.

I'm relatively young. I use emojis daily - they are part of the way we use slack in our company. I still don't really like them. It just feels like they are necessary because we have no standard for embedding actual pictures - and so we are cramming more and more of them into Unicode, using weird hacks like zero-width-joiner sequences, and so on. The rate at which they are added, means any given implementation is likely to be out of date, and display nonsense. They are also often a confusing way to communicate.
And yet, I don't quite hate them - they can be useful. I just wish we had something better.

Yeah, but unless you're going full totalitarian, I don't see how it can work. It will just add additional legitimacy to the speech which is 'suppressed'. So unless you want to do a china style great firewall, and punish people for speaking out, maybe it's better to actually defend freedom, instead of limiting freedom in the name of protecting freedom?
Sorry if I sound frustrated. But I just think all this anti-free speech is a knee-jerk reaction to the symptoms of the rising far-right, not a well thought-out strategy of preserving liberal democracy.

The rise of fascists is EXACTLY WHY we should make sure such values are protected, not an excuse to abandon them. Do you really think you can prevent the rise of fascism by forbidding speech? How would that work?
