I have sat down and figured out how to program an Apple //e this year for fun. It is possible. It was quite instructive on how much has been added to the idea of what a computer is these days.

I feel like if you want to tackle hard problems there are plenty out there to tackle and plenty of people who will put money into you doing it. I would rather that people unwilling to do so get out of the way with UBI then force people to work to feed themselves. I suppose that is a rather utopian view not shared by many because of the fears of elites controlling everything but that is also a hard problem that some find worth tackling.

I think you are over thinking this. Better to get a job and see if you enjoy it than try to predict your impact on the world around you before you actually do anything that would create an impact.

When I was a teenager in boarding school I sent away for these books. I got this fully illustrated Star Wars encyclopedia amongst other books of sci-fi interest to me. Suddenly I realized I could not afford the actual monthly fees I had signed myself up for. So a teacher at the school advised me to send a letter saying I was the parent of a young child who had managed to mail off for these books without my permission and that this service must be canceled immediately because no child can make such a decision. That worked and I got to keep the books.

I pay a progressive 47% in Norway. I am sick of having half my salary taken over ~600kkr (60k usd). It’s ridiculous. Plus 25% VAT on everything. And it’s not like salaries are through the roof. Why bother paying me a salary at all at this point? Just let the state give me everything if they are going to take it anyways.

No I don't get it at all. But I think a lot of people are prompting LLMs then publishing their outputs these days. They need to jump on the hype train before it leaves the station. See any recently created "AI ethics" group/institute/startup/whatever. It's basically just this meme on repeat:

I saw ngt talk at the natural history museum. He is a crazy person. He ranted about the chinese, talked for too long about how he’s friends with “bob De Niro” and how bob has paid enough taxes to buy five F22s, he was completely unprepared and had nothing to say on the topic at hand, his own book about meeting aliens. Except to spend most of his time making fun of the critics who panned his book because his book was on the nytimes best seller list. The worst was that there were so many children there who clearly looked up to him and wanted to pursue science as a career. I have no idea why anyone cares what he has to say at this point. He has made a gross caricature of himself.
