Re:Restrooms along the Norwegian Scenic Routes on Sunday November 01, 2026 @09:23AM (#50325990)
Yeah, service areas between between PA-NJ-NY were always pretty good, I miss those today driving here in FL today, where its mostly shitty gas stations where you have to ask for a key to use the restrooms.

You don't get the Norway views but its also not a complete mess.

Everyone is a genius in a bull market. I remember a friend saying they were going to buy teslas to then re-sell them at a higher price around the same time because "teslas aren't like normal cars, they're an appreciating asset".

Thankfully he ended up not having enough money to pull this off so didn't lose everything either.

Re:Why Is This Fingerprinting Script Creating Bioweapons? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @04:33PM (#50280497)
Why?

Media control has been a mainstay in the US government for centuries, the only way to be surprised about this is by not having studied anything about US history.

The market is depressing.

Re:Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society? on Monday September 28, 2026 @01:02PM (#49881043)
nah dude, my mom and dad both worked full time, if they ever dreamed i was disrespectful to a teacher i'd be grounded for a month.

It has and parents are very much to blame for this.
Re:Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents" on Thursday September 24, 2026 @01:04AM (#49826463)
In this very specific case I don’t think this is what is happening. Data center investment is the only thing keeping GDP positive, the moment this stops the real situation of the economy will become visible to everyone and they don’t want that.
Re:A warning about 'model welfare' on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @11:41AM (#49728758)
yeah man, someone needs to turn on the server, install shit and get the agent go. agents don't take action without a lot of people wanting them to take action, so this is all bullshit.

if the same people can't prevent the agents from doing crazy shit then they should go to tail. guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people.

Re:A warning about 'model welfare' on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @11:15AM (#49728338)
agents don't swarm anything unless people go and direct them to do that.
That’s not common and effective, it’s buzz feed style articles.
Re:Intellectual Fly Is Open on Sunday September 06, 2026 @10:19PM (#49593099)
Same. I do not use LLMs for writing and I recommend everyone i work with to do the same. Even for code, I come to the code with the idea of what I want and provide that to the agent, then we iterate on what needs iteration or decisions.

Just did this for some caching, started with the structure of what I wanted the cache to look like, asked the agent to start the work, didn't like how the architecture came about, scratched it and rewrote the whole thing, so it fit the model I now wanted.

Was also just having this discussion with friends, that I can only think seriously about a subject if i can put it to paper (even virtual paper). Writing lets me organize my thoughts, clearly define my assumptions and see if any of it make any sense. I can't imagine what it would be like if i couldn't write, my brain just doesn't work without it.

I have a 2023 Yukon that i like very much but i'm not going to ever replace it by another Yukon without carplay. By the time its not drivable anymore the kids won't need strollers and I'll likely pick a smaller car with car play.

They could have had me trading it in this or next year for the newer model (that does have some nicer things i'd like to have, like the larger infotainment screen) but the lack of carplay and the shitty native google maps and spotify products that come installed on it are are not acceptable for a car that sells for 90K USD.

GM decided it had all the cards, looks like they don't.

Maybe there's the option of hiring better people as well so you don't have to babysit them at this level. If you can't trust teams to open incidents maybe the problem lies somewhere else.
Some people survive by sheer luck.
Re:Why do I lose my passion and want to do nothing? on Sunday August 30, 2026 @11:18PM (#49505209)
Because the factories of factories is mostly bullshit. OpenAI blogged about how it was complicated for them to build a project using AI alone and the specs in the repo, how easy it was for models to get lost, not do what was expected of them and the burden it was on the team.

I don't think we will never get there but we're definitely not there yet. Models still require a lot of handholding to get things done.

No one gets promoted for writing good docs.
Re:Low-Tech Ceramic Water Filter on Sunday August 16, 2026 @07:12PM (#49324757)
Being poor sucks but at the same time being poor also makes you find alternative solutions to the incredibly expensive solutions first world countries use today. I really wish Brazil can invest heavily into renewables and free itself from oil and electrify even more of everything we do.
Re:Mistral Patent for "Code implemented tool calls" on Monday August 10, 2026 @09:37AM (#49243494)
what an insane thing to have a patent for.
I use claude and codex to write nearly all my code today but i can't accept using it to write prose. I still handwrite every single document I have to write and have them review and propose changes, i feel like if i can't put my own ideas into words for people (and claude) to work on i've completely lost it.
The agents will leave the data center and buy stuff from the local economy, didn’t you hear that?
Re:Why the Legendary Erdős Problems Are Falling to AI on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @11:21AM (#49184210)
The number of geniuses in every field that congregate in HN is incredible, too bad they're here responding to comments instead of revolutionizing nuclear energy, math or medicine.
Re:Did They Ghost You? on Saturday July 25, 2026 @10:25PM (#49054035)
The chance of a single hire being a make it or break it for the the business is pretty much null, so a single recruiter not having continuity in the processes they were doing once they get fired isn't really something to optimize for.
Yes, the administration is definitely and would not start a war for no reason other than to start a war.

People really have to stop sanewashing the government, it doesn't work anymore, these people are not thinking through what they're doing.

same, read a lot of what he wrote back then.
Re:New US homeownership measure puts people first on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @01:07PM (#48995124)
The landlord also pays property taxes, so this comment must be trolling.
Re:New US homeownership measure puts people first on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @10:08AM (#48992576)
Life is much harder when you don't have a roof over your head or when that roof can be taken away from your or take more from your salary than you were anticipating. I don't think people understand the psychological safety of knowing you will not pay a single dime more on a loan for your home for 30 years. It completely erases that worry from your head.
Re:What AI did to stackoverflow in a graph on Saturday July 18, 2026 @06:20PM (#48963029)
I had a pretty high rank on ruby and java answers, with some high traffic stuff, there were always people trying to completely edit my answers into something else entirely, it was such a shitty experience that I just decided the effort wasn’t worth it.
Re:AWS: Inaccurate Estimated Billing Data - $1.7 BILLION on Saturday July 18, 2026 @02:39AM (#48955770)
The last thing a billing system should have is defaults, this is such an insane thing.
