Hey -- I just registered zmail.website for you if you want it. Figure it's more memorable, like jmail.world.
I was using `,.` as the trigger, as I don't think there are any real-life uses of that simple combo.

  - ,.a.macro
  - ,.b.macro
etc.

When I adopted my dog, I was living alone and knew that he'd be in danger if anything happened to me (e.g., hit by bus), as it might take a few days for anyone to notice.

To handle such a scenario, I built a service to check on me and notify my contacts if I went missing. i.e., a "Dead Man's Switch".

I want to check it out but I'm reluctant when there aren't any screenshots / demos, etc. (Mentioning in case you're the developer)
Re:Why I Blog on Friday April 07, 2023 @12:25PM (#35483460)
Danny! We worked together at BB :) I especially like,

"I don't claim to actually know all that much, but everyone has something worth sharing."
I've resisted blogging for a long time for fear of not having anything to talk about, but couching it as "sharing" feels like a much better (more generous, more motivating) POV.

If you aren't currently using any "knowledge management" software, you may want to check out Obsidian or Roam Research. I bet you'd get a lot out of it.

Re:Show HN: A color picker for named web colors only on Monday November 21, 2022 @01:07PM (#33695747)
Love it. One suggestion - make it so it either copies to your clipboard when you click a color, or add an explicit "copy" button so it's easier to grab the name.

But awesome stuff - the color wheel looks so cool.

Even Monero?

Totally agree.

"monkey.org has a bunch of users. most of them hate you."

Okay?

How is that censorship if he signed a contract saying he wouldn't publish for any other outlet?

Haven't you worked for companies that disallow you from working for anyone else without prior approval?

Cantvote.org

Hacker News,I've become increasingly concerned about voting interference and was surprised to hear there's no national repository for reporting difficulty in voting. There's 866-OUR-VOTE, but that's voice only. FairFight.org has a Google spreadsheet. So far I haven't really found a website dedicated to collecting reports of disenfranchisement.I bought CantVote.org and would like to develop a...

Exactly how I'd been using it - keeping my dotfiles in a git repo that's not at GitHub.
Re:Ask HN: What projects are you working on now? on Sunday March 22, 2020 @01:24PM (#22656675)
TimeyTim - a web-based CRON, Dead Man's Switch and Monitoring service - https://timeytim.com

---

I've worked on a number of projects that needed some scheduling capabilities, like "Archive this object in 4 weeks", or "Make sure this process runs every 2 days."

Rather than rebuilding this logic, and for those who hate dealing with CRON syntax, I wanted to create a scheduling API.

My goals are to 1) make it useful, 2) make it easy for developers, and 3) keep it low-cost (using DynamoDB and Lambda).

You can set up schedules via the website, or programmatically using the API.

Feel free to poke around - it's close to launching but the back end is currently disabled.

If this service sounds useful, please add your email to be notified when it launches - https://timeytim.com.

(Thanks, and suggestions welcome!)

Definitely not alone - great idea
Exactly what I need right now. Trying it out (and congrats!) :)

I'm using it with Kubuntu and haven't had any issues.

Ask HN: Smart Workflows for Shared Components?

We currently have a WordPress site (marketing) and a custom React web app (business logic). The goal is for the look and feel of both to be consistent, and to stay DRY by sharing our React components.I expect that we'll keep the components in a separate npm package, and in the case of any major changes to the component library, just manually synchronize the deployment of both sites. To minimize...

I hear that (I'm in Brooklyn), but there have also been cases where something happened nearby that would have changed my route (if I was about to go somewhere).

Or at work, there are alerts about things happening in Grand Central Station, which would also change my plans (if it happened when I was about to leave).

I guess it's never actually caused me to change plans, but I still think it's pretty valuable.

Actually, I did notify relatives when there was a dude with a gun walking around their neighborhood. It's really astounding how much craziness can happen right under your nose.

I think someone else did it: https://neocities.org/
Thanks for posting this - these are facets of the story I'd never have known otherwise
