Aww, you mean a CEO can't stay rich by giving away other people's creations for free? What a tragedy.

Uh, desktop web shortcuts? Didn't I have this in Windows 98 and IE 5?
Facebook would have been nothing if it weren't for the popularity of Myspace. Facebook also would have been nothing had Myspace continued to innovate and grow, giving users fewer compelling reasons to switch.
Re:Memepool is back, after 4yr hiatus on Tuesday March 27, 2012 @02:39PM (#3762994)
Disappointed to see that it is just a plug for someone's toy app, rather than something genuinely interesting or weird.
This really isn't any different than any credit card application. The arbitration clause is buried in the fine print of those as well.
Re:Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple on Wednesday August 24, 2011 @07:00PM (#2922930)
Great unbiased journalism: "Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software."
Strange journalism, there isn't any quotes in the article that actually cite competition from Apple as the reason for the closure. Editorialized?
Re:Google: Patently Absurd on Wednesday August 03, 2011 @07:29PM (#2843700)
When will Apple respond to bad press directly instead of hiding behind this clown?
Re:Why Microsoft bought Skype on Saturday May 14, 2011 @02:37PM (#2548256)
Yes, I can't imagine how anyone would expect people to take them seriously when they write blatant fanboy crap like this, while commenting about Apple's competition.
Re:M$ stole this guy's code on Wednesday February 16, 2011 @03:35PM (#2228158)
I wonder how many times he rolled in his grave when his vindicator Caldera went on to become the SCO headed by Darl McBride.

...if you think children's vitamins are sexy.
Re:Apple has sold its millionth iPad in just 28 days on Monday May 03, 2010 @02:56PM (#1315691)
Sure, you could do all that with iPads and Wifi, but have you actually tried it? I suspect the usability will not match up, due to a slew of technical issues and lag.
Re:I am not a fanboy. on Tuesday April 20, 2010 @03:34AM (#1278890)
Well, you are doing nothing to dissuade the apple haters that stereotype mac people as smug, conceited hipsters.
Re:Is Apple destroying a generation of tech whizzes? on Monday April 05, 2010 @09:35PM (#1243575)
"Apple is watering down computing" has been the principle argument governing the PC v. Mac holy war since the Macintosh made its debut. Nothing has changed.
Yes, this would be tons more philanthropic and if it were just readable. Just some simple line breaks and variable names that meant something. It's not impressive that you can just cram stuff into 99 lines.
Re:Revealed: The ghost fleet of the recession on Monday September 14, 2009 @02:31PM (#822279)
The daily mail is a sensationalist tabloid rag. Most of the article is probably BS.
A Job Queue is a great thing to have, especially when it provided for you, but it's hardly "revolutionary."
Re:Visualizing Music on Wednesday May 13, 2009 @06:19PM (#607801)
Yep...actually a pretty trivial example of Fourier analysis.
Re:Adobe software shamefully, frustratingly incompetent on Thursday February 19, 2009 @04:02AM (#487027)
"Maybe Adobe is used to Windows users accepting this level of user insult."

Why are mac people always so freakin arrogant?

Re:iPhone Memory Management Links and Resources on Monday January 26, 2009 @11:58PM (#451677)
Well, its only got 128MB ram and flash storage...so there is no virtual memory I suspect. I'm sure the OS takes a big chunk of memory, with the possibility of background tasks eating up more. With a garbage collected system, I'm sure you'd routinely see performance hits when the garbage collector runs as it frantically tries to free storage with low and fragmented memory conditions. Not to mention the extra battery drain to constantly scan the freeable pointers. This is an embedded device with big limitations...you need to be more mindful of resources.
Re:Hacking the .SVN directory on Monday January 26, 2009 @11:27PM (#451653)
Why are you pushing files with rsync with a working copy? That is what "export" is for. There is no special security in the .svn folder, because you are not supposed to publish it to the website.
Re:Why use garbage collection on Thursday January 22, 2009 @10:46PM (#445889)
I hate the whole argument of the "problem" of hanging/dangling pointers as reason for GC. Is GC only for covering up your n00b mistakes? GC will never be a reasonable management scheme for realtime or limited memory systems, where programmer responsibility and predictable behavior is required.
Re:Songbird 1.0 released on Wednesday December 03, 2008 @04:46PM (#384875)
What problem are they trying to solve? A non-Applfied itunes-like app, that doesn't force you to install quicktime and iPodService.exe and other crapware.

What market are they after? Well, I might consider buying an iPod now that it isn't tethered to freakin iTunes.

oh, is that all?
Re:Music File Compressed 1,000 Times Smaller Than Mp3 on Thursday October 23, 2008 @09:09PM (#341913)
Misleading. The file is not actually a recording, but a set of parameters to drive a simulation. It's really just a glorified MIDI file.
...and now you know why the arab sheiks ship their Lamborghini's to Britain for an oil change
