Lovely. Can’t wait for this style to come into fashion again. Notes with yellowish backgrounds, game center with green velour like a roulette table, 3D-Buttons that render a click, I want it all back!

I want the hardware, but with Linux! SteamOS or bazzite would be a good start..
Exactly, and I wonder since then: How closely did people in comparable situations look? Since nothing similar has been reported, I suspect not very close…
Same from Argentina to Canada? Wow
> fire/tornado/earthquake/tsunami takes out your physical drives, where are you?
Hopefully in a place where I can solve the bigger problems I have then!
I think “culture change” is what is ultimately proposed here.
Menus change ie seasonal, and there is a daily changing handwritten chalkboard: Make a photo, put it on IG. Hours change: This week only opened from 8 instead 7: Post it on IG. Who has the time to answer a phonecall? And who uses phone numbers these days anyway? Text me on whatsapp like everyone else does.
Disclaimer: Don‘t use IG. But if I want to know if our favourite pizza place is open (cook travels to football games a lot), I ask my wife to check on Insta.
A question I ask rather here than on that old thread: Is it possible to attach a monitor, mouse and keyboard to a jolla phone with sailfish and run a linux desktop?
I think it’s very valid. I want to be hardware-independent, not only OS independent. I need graphene to work on a fairphone, jolla phone or whatever other alternatives there are. E/os can do that (to an extent), Graphene can’t for probably very good reason, but still: It‘s not an alternative then.
This feels like something Oscar from Duolingo could say.
I believe this is the principle that makes biology such a superior technology.
Is there a way to do that and still be able to access the server?
F/A 18 Interceptor on an Amiga 500:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F/A-18_InterceptorThe first mission is to start and land on a carrier.
Video games were never even a question: You couldn't copy games and had to pay ridiculous prices for each!
It is encouraging to know that I am not the only one who does that (sometimes, on interesting sites. otherwise I just leave).
What is your replacement for VSCode?
> if you haven't noticed, the people concerned are computer programmers, UI designers, and PMs.
Those are the people who should know best what is meant by "ask visitors for consent before you track them.".
Lawyers and more work is needed if you want to track anyway and look for ways to make people accidentally consent. "Let's ask the question, but hide the unwanted answer as deeply as possibly without breaking the law."
You may blame EU bureaucrats, I blame the unwillingness of the companies to fulfill the spirit of the law and putting all the work into pretending.
Since you asked: I care. I leave sites which insist on tracking me and appreciate that it is now mandatory for said sites to inform me about their intentions. So this is a solution to a problem I actually have.
There are sites which place a "reject all" button above all and make this easy for me. Others try it the sneaky way, by making me turn off every single tracking vendor and then a lot more hidden under legitimate interest. Those are the sites I leave and never come back.
The hurdle in question has a lot of simple solutions. 1, don't use cookies. Github does that AFAIK. 2, be transparent about your tracking intentions and use one of the several premade solutions. 3, design a dark pattern UI that hides the important switches in technical named lists and count on the laziness and confusion of users to use them. That is probably the most expensive way for a 3 person company, as you need devs and UX designers and lawyers to judge if you bended the regulation requirements just enough without breaking them.

iOS6 peak iPhone? Finally someone says it!
Also buttons had titles like “Done“ instead of icons, touches wouldn‘t end in accidental swipes all the time and Safaris toolbar was fixed.
All things I recently failed to explain to an elderly person.
Plus, the iPhone shipped with its own, very distinguishable ringtones which pretty soon signaled to everyone “I have an iPhone”.
And the small switch to silence it was already a feature on the first iPhone, became a standard for all smartphones and vibration only turned out to be a convenient alternative. That said, the current ringtones on my phone are:
-Nokia Attraction
-Nokia Orient
-the ringtone from Luigis mansion 3
-You’re so cool from True Romance
and yes, putting them on the phone with garage band is a pain.
One man’s snarkyness is another man‘s critical and teaching comment.
I think a competing theory was/is that the mass extinction was caused by volcanism of the Deccan-Traps, briefly mentioned in the abstract “…occurred within the time of Deccan flood basalt volcanism in India”. This article seems to confirm a direct relation between the meteorite impact and the extinction with the deccan traps activity possibly serving as a contributing factor.
But unfortunately not on Safari respectively the iOS webview, which would have been mandatory for the author to use.
If I am wrong, I‘d gladly take a solution. I think this is one of the main problems for PWAs: No good , platform-independent way to access the local file system. As in „pick once, access forever“.

Looking at the page, I barely remember those assembler commands. LDX, STA, INX..I’m glad that this is obsolete now. But I wonder how common the knowledge is these days that ultimately, every programming language compiles down to this? Well the equivalent of this on a modern processor, but still.
Yes, Option would disable Basic on boot.
The first Ataris (400 and 800) came with a basic module that you had to put in and then start the computer to use Basic - or likewise Assembler. The module would then use certain parts of the precious 64 KB Ram - actually, much less because the OS in ROM would write itself into RAM on startup and take about 20KB away. So a program or game had about 40 KB space to use. Basic would take some more away. Which wasn‘t a problem on the 800, you would either plug the module in and use Basic but you wouldn‘t if you wanted to load a game. But with the XL, you needed a way to disable the automatic Basic load at boot time, or many games could not use all of the memory they needed. Hence, the Option-option at startup.
At least I remember it this way, but I only had an XL, not the older ones, and now I remember that the 800 had only 48KB of RAM, so it was probably more complicated than that!
I installed GrapheneOS on a spare Pixel 4a recently...through a browser window. I thought at first that I had to download a firmware flasher or something, but no, it updated the device from that webpage! That was impressive.
The other thing I would like to mention: Chromium is installed, so PWAs can be installed instead of connecting to a sandboxed google play or something. The PWAs I tried looked just like on an iPhone or desktop. Yes, we are far, far away from PWAs being a complete replacement. But it is in theory possible:
An independent mobile OS with platform-independent apps. No Apple/Google ID needed, no appstores. That was the point of this test install, and it worked.
