Exactly: at its core a moka is just a casted aluminium blob. Good luck breaking that one.

Replaceable parts are a few euros.

Italian born and raised, but moved around in various contries.

I own a handful of Bialetti mokas of different sizes. A couple of those are from my teenager years, I don't even remember buying them, they might have been from my parents. I still use them multiple times daily.

Mokas are for life. As long as you replace the plastic gasket once in a while (a couple bucks) and you don't accidentally melt the handle (which you can replace anyway) they'll outlive all of us.

Friends up in a forgotten corner of the Western Highlands turned one into a passive fibre termination box. Pics:

Yes, if you look closely at their shell you'll see they are calling some `python3` command to get/push/(?) stuff into that PR.

This. I never have to take it off. Battery lasts forever, lightweight, thin, accurate (despite it lacks radio synch), extremely cheap.

Indeed, it sounds something that should have been part of their now-famous SRE book :)

Is it breaking any obvious NDA or can you share it?

Extreme Networks | multiple roles | Shannon, or remote within Ireland [1] | Full Time | https://www.extremenetworks.com/company/careers/

We're a young startup that has been around since ...1996! We build network/wireless gear and software solutions for analytics, management and security. We're bootstrapping a new engineering base in Shannon, Ireland, to help us transform into a software company. We are a flat organization, and this operation starts with a blank slate (languages, architecture, ideas), so join the team and help us get to the mission of being a 2B$ company in 2020.

* Software Engineers (Cloud) - multiple positions - https://www.extremenetworks.com/company/careers/?p=job%2Fos4...

You'll be working on a brand new project with the aim of building a cloud-based successor of our famous network management platform. We build on serverless stack on AWS and GCP. If you have programmed in any of Go, Java, Rust, Python, JavaScript, C, C++, we would love to hear from you.

* Machine Learning / Data Science Engineers - multiple positions - https://www.extremenetworks.com/company/careers/?p=job%2Fo9B...

You'll be joining a brand new team of ML and Data Science engineers, that will be extending our analytics and security products. We run analytics for massive customers, both in the cloud and at the edge. Tech we use: GCP BigQuery+PubSub+Dataproc, AWS GreenGrass, both Tensorflow and PyTorch. Lots of ideas to experiments with.

Feel free to get in touch with me directly (mail in profile) for any question.

[1] regarding remote: our Irish engineering base is in Shannon, we're always open to remote candidates but for these positions we're restricted in hiring within Ireland sorry.

This is the first hire at this new operation, you will be responsible for growing your team (large headcount already budgeted), nurturing innovation, help build products and provide leadership. This is one-of-a-kind opportunity.

Can you talk about the details of Argo, in a blogpost or elsewhere?

I'm referring to the routing logic and optimisation algos.

Asked already several times in the past. I'm very curious as I've worked a lot on those specific issues. Thanks.

Seriously, how on earth is this the news #1 of the frontpage of HN? Isn't this community supposed to know better?

Before clicking I thought "I bet they do stacked LSTM to predict the _next_ time step" :|

Just watched it. Thanks, it was indeed a great talk, and indeed a lot of tooling.

Do you have any extra writeup to suggest?

Re:Image Processing with Deep Learning on Friday October 05, 2018 @07:40AM (#18147301)
How is this story on the first page? Frankly there are so many good resources to approach DL-based computer vision, that this looks such a random blogpost in comparison. I must be missing something.
Yes. That's why I uninstalled and switched to Zotero. The import tool worked great, btw.
I had contacted the first author in March and the answer was that "our source code is currently not available because of a pending patent application".
Re:Blockers to IPv6 Adoption on Tuesday June 19, 2018 @06:26AM (#17345302)
Not really, see slide 4 of Geoff Huston's talk at RIPE76:

https://ripe76.ripe.net/wp-content/uploads/presentations/9-2...

It is actually growing slower and slower and looking as a logistic curve, which is perhaps unsurprising. Also note the increasing gap between weekdays and weekends, which is a sign that enterprises don't care about v6.

Re:Blockers to IPv6 Adoption on Tuesday June 19, 2018 @05:54AM (#17345142)
Enterprises are doing the right thing, ignoring v6. No advantage whatsoever for a long time to come, only added complexity and training.

As a network engineer and enthusiast, I would do the same.

Re:Playing battleships over BGP on Monday May 21, 2018 @10:02AM (#17118406)
Found your tweets weeks ago by accident and started following you.

Man, you must start giving nerd standup comedy talks at CCC/RIPE/ARIN/etc!!

Re:Is IPv6 only for the Rich? [pdf] on Sunday May 13, 2018 @03:42PM (#17060602)
This talk will be presented on Thursday 17th at RIPE76.

I assume that as usual, it will be streamed live and the video recording should appear here: https://ripe76.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/ipv6-wg/

This upcoming RIPE meeting has so many interesting talks... I invite you to "invest" some time going through the program (not all slides are available yet, as it starts tomorrow)!

Indeed: the Centriq announcement was maybe 6 months ago.

What does this mean in practice?

Re:Mapping the internet with Hilbert curves on Saturday April 21, 2018 @02:44PM (#16892681)
> I don't think straight hilbert curves:IP ranges are the best mapping,

It is a good idea, as IP ranges are a simple (discrete) linear range.

However, maybe this is not the best explanation:

> The problem with displaying IP addresses, is that they are a single dimensional, they only move up and down, however humans are not good at looking at a large amount of single dimensional points.

But rather: Hilbert curves are great because it ensures that every two consecutive points are contiguous in space (i.e., no gaps).

Again, it's probably _not_ Virgin's fault or responsibility. Capacity planning is handled by Google directly.

Also, I think that virtually every ISP with more than a few tens of thousands users is hosting a GGC instance nowadays (and a Netflix OpenCache, etc. etc.).

Nowadays, the vast majority of the transit&peering of ISPs is not going to the Internet, but to a few racks of local caching servers managed by OTT operators.

Bandwidth-wise, at least in prime time, the Internet is much less connected/realtime than people think :)
