the value of them is much less however
Monoliths might be better in some cases, microservices in others. Performance can obviously differ based on implementation.
I can't, since I don't know Netflix's architecture - I was responding to "I'd love to hear exactly how a monolith application is guaranteed to perform better, with details."
It's not guaranteed, but much fewer points of failure.
Re:Amazon Still Has a Counterfeit Problem on Wednesday August 28, 2024 @02:06PM (#41382354)
I really only buy stuff from Amazon that is unlikely to be counterfeit. I haven't even had great luck with that approach. Better to go through the manufacturer's site, or a more reputable site.
I don't think it's all that petty. Teams is really bad, and if you have to deal with it daily, time to find another job.
The rising price of a house you own means very little if everything is going up - plus throw in inflation, interest rate, and taxes. If you move now, you are going to pay more unless you significantly downsize.
No real reason to use Intel or AMD since they already stole all the tech.
It's not a lie if you believe it.
Your O key might be broken as well
Re:Dev Onboarding, Then and Now on Sunday December 17, 2023 @09:12AM (#38672945)
Kind of a long way to say that the author uses Docker for development environments.
I honestly don't know why anyone would use Google for anything anymore.
Yet another reason to steer far clear of anything Meta.

Their own.
Re:I-10 closure in California prompts state of emergency on Sunday November 12, 2023 @09:09PM (#38246107)
I don't think it is unique to CA, I've never heard it any other way in other parts of the southwest.
Seems like a very niche market - I think they may have increased their supply a little too much.
I'm sure there are some cases where Airbnb is a good solution. I've never really understood where a hotel isn't a much easier option for most. Plus many HOAs have banned short term leases like Airbnb.
Healthy for everything else though
Most don't actually help in any meaningful way, so maybe they realize that.
Re:Has the U.S. economy reached a turning point? on Friday November 03, 2023 @09:51PM (#38137315)
A turning point for the better? It certainly doesn't seem like it.
Re:German court declares Do Not Track to be legally binding on Tuesday October 31, 2023 @10:51AM (#38085740)
DNT has always seemed pointless to me, you really don't know if they are even abiding by it.
Re:What McKinsey got wrong about developer productivity on Tuesday October 24, 2023 @11:54AM (#38000946)
I'm still mystified why companies hire a firm like McKinsey - they have no actual experience, but are telling people with experience what they should do.
It's not mentioned in the article, but I'm curious if they have the same plans for Marcus.
Re:Populating the page: how browsers work on Friday October 13, 2023 @10:51AM (#37871295)
The diagrams in this article are pretty bad no matter when they were made.
Re:Kagi finally let me lay Google Search to rest on Thursday October 12, 2023 @08:03PM (#37864769)
I've found Kagi results to be significantly better than Google in general, however I'm sure certain searches might better on Google.
I'm not sure if WalMart is much better since they have third-party sellers.
> I don’t recall why I had docker installed, and was happy to remove it. Never liked docker

Some people not only like it, but require it for their work - seems like an odd prerequisite.

Yeah, I'm not saying there is never a need for a long-lived feature branch, there are use cases. I would say it's fairly rare in practice for it to be preferable, at least in my experience.
