His smugness about the older woman is infuriating.
The quote from the article, “my work life sort of is my personal life.” is the common attitude put forth by the sort of employees that a company like Zynga attracts. Young, without family or interests outside of work.

A company with a focus on long term employees that will stay and focus on the underlying structure that permits the business to exist will be more interested in hiring and retaining employees with interests that encapsulate more than simply staying late into the evening to "crush some code."

"Specialists get farther than generalists." I think this is a statement of very dubious veracity.
Re:Simple (Formerly BankSimple) Review on Monday August 06, 2012 @04:30PM (#4347111)
I really looked forward to a Bank Simple account for years, but at this point I use a high yield account for my checking. Switching to Bank Simple would cost me about $200 a year, as their banking partner offers a pittance in terms of interest on checking.
Re:The New Digg Arrives Ahead Of Schedule on Tuesday July 31, 2012 @07:41PM (#4320288)
I am not happy about needing to sign into Facebook and then having any story I digg showing up on my Facebook timeline.

That's an overstep that will keep me off the site.

Craigslist isn't participating? That's surprising!
Re:A little math on Mitt Romney’s IRA on Saturday July 07, 2012 @07:11PM (#4213003)
His 401(k) could simply be a self-directed investment account. I have one that is a Roth IRA. You are limited in what can be deposited into the account, but it can grow without limit from capital gains.

I really can't see using this for quick fixes when I am highly mobile. A better solution for me is Sublime Text on my Macbook Air.

55 USD seems like quite a bit to pay since I need to supply my own microSD anyway. I'll pass.

This is genius. So much so I want to keep it all for myself.
Re:Half of Americans think Facebook is a fad on Tuesday May 15, 2012 @08:56PM (#3979800)
I have always thought that Facebook's success was tied to their targeting of the next generation of consumers, that is college students, who had not yet made a brand or technology commitment.

In this way, they gather together a core group of users who in turn draw marketshare away from others both within and outside of their generational cohort.

In my family, it certainly worked that way with my sister pulling my mother, father, and eventually myself into using Facebook as the primary way to share family information.

Re:Interview Heuristics on Monday May 14, 2012 @09:21PM (#3974345)
There are several hot-button issues that I can't help but think you drizzled over your posting to increase the likelihood of visceral reaction by the demographic this posting targets.

Either that, or I have to conclude that the Heuristics you mention are sullied by personal bias, and if so should be reviewed.

It may also be that your blog is part of the svbtle network that has triggered my personal biases.

Playfic is another terrific tool for doing this. http://playfic.com/

It's a community for making and sharing interactive fiction (aka "text adventures") entirely from your browser, using a crazy-ass "natural language"-inspired language called Inform 7.

Some stuff is broken and missing, lots of rough edges.

Re:Linus Torvalds won't do github pull requests on Friday May 11, 2012 @04:02PM (#3961076)
Extremely relevant criticism. It appears to be a rather simple problem for Github to resolve.
