If I was interested in tagging people, why wouldn't I just post it to Facebook?
Re:A Rare Disagreement on Thursday March 03, 2011 @10:10PM (#2286830)
"In my experience, employees at Apple care very much what users and developers are saying."

Except employee 0.

Re:I'm 15. I just got covered on Mashable and TNW on Tuesday March 01, 2011 @07:06PM (#2277855)
Congrats!

How did did you build it?

Re:Video Tutorials on Computer Programming and More on Monday February 28, 2011 @08:50PM (#2273872)
Ah yes, the house rules. Fair enough.
Re:Poll: If I asked, would you send me your "Saved Stories"? on Monday February 28, 2011 @02:48PM (#2272577)
The response I wanted to click is, "Yes, if you reported it anonymously." What I did choose is "Yes, almost certainly."

This wasn't the title I submitted this with. Does anyone know how it was changed?

(My original title was something about discovering a blue collar version of the Kahn Academy.)

Re:Show HN: What Do You Think Of My Resume? on Friday February 18, 2011 @12:30AM (#2234361)
Great job! But I just would have gotten someone with better handwriting to do the board. Also, change that profile picture!
Make your product better than theirs. People pay for quality.
Wow, great insight for a fellow non-CS person who wants to build their own site anyway. I just subscribed to your blog. Thanks!
This is a bit outside of the present scope of the site, but how about offering pre-printed yard sales sign for sale online? Possibly you could partner with a site that already provides this and you would make revenue on a referral basis.
Re:I built this 'HN inspired' site. What do you think? on Saturday February 12, 2011 @11:01AM (#2210245)
Looks good but the font is a little too big for me liking. I want to see more on a page at a time.

However, great job getting it up and running!

Re:Random Startup Generator on Tuesday February 08, 2011 @08:59AM (#2192846)
Not quite complete, nowhere does the description say the team is "passionate" about technology and/or design.
The registration form was still live when I just clicked on it.
I would probably pay. My dream solution would back up my pictures and the let me share the ones I wanted to share. (Not a photo hobbyist, just like to take lots of pictures.)

This Hacker News app for Android is my favorite and recently ousted the one listed in this article on my device. Especially useful is the "text-only on viewtext.org." feature.

"...weak domain name."

To you. Remember the demographic that will be using this.

Re:What we have learnt running a bootstrapped startup on Wednesday February 02, 2011 @11:16AM (#2170750)
Thanks. Okay, maybe I just slightly disagree with them. I mostly agree with the "create value, money will come" philosophy. However I would say create value and if the value is very substantial, the money will come. However depending on how substantial the value is, you may have to work to make the money come along.

I am not saying they are wrong, I would just put a little more confidence behind Guy's statement.

Re:What we have learnt running a bootstrapped startup on Wednesday February 02, 2011 @10:09AM (#2170464)
"As corny as it may sound, we were particularly impressed with Guy Kawasaki’s ‘Create value and money will follow’ advice when we started up...Had we known then that he was going to create AllTop in future, we would have probably introspected a little more before buying his line of advice."

I don't understand this statement, specifically the reference to AllTop. Can someone offer me some insight?

Actually his most recent post was, "@SweetOwl proxy servers"

Have you looked at Beyond the Pedway?

Re:Ask HN: Does anyone know of a good android app tutorial? on Wednesday January 26, 2011 @01:31PM (#2144348)
No problem, now that I am on lunch, I looked up a few others.

Here is the Google guide I was talking about: http://developer.android.com/ here are some tutorials from there: http://developer.android.com/resources/index.html They call these tutorials but you are really just copying and pasting but I bet you could reverse engineer simple apps from this starting point. http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/views/index.htm...

Here are a couple tutorials, I have not reviewed them much so it is up to you to decide if they are any good: http://www.activefrequency.com/blog/2009/ground-up-android-g...

http://www.vogella.de/articles/Android/article.html

These guys talk about their experience in app development. http://www.kreci.net/ http://www.bryandenny.com/index.php/2010/05/25/what-i-learne...

Of course there is the App Inventor but when I did their tutorials I felt a little more like I was building a pre-fab kit rather than learning how to create: http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/about/

Re:Ask HN: Does anyone know of a good android app tutorial? on Wednesday January 26, 2011 @10:40AM (#2143582)
I have have sort of made my own path.

I watched this video which is not exactly a tutorial but gave me some good comprehensive knowledge, there is a part 2 as well. http://marakana.com/forums/android/general/230.html

Next I have been going through Hello, Android (Introducing Google’s Mobile Development Platform, 3rd Edition, by Ed Burnette) and will probably be doing the Apress Beginning Android book next.

Also check out http://www.reddit.com/r/android. Look on the sidebar as there are other subreddits of interest to you, especially http://www.reddit.com/r/androiddev.

Finally there is a tutorial in the Google documentation.

Best of luck!

Thanks!
Re:Design for Hackers: Why You Hate Comic Sans on Tuesday January 25, 2011 @01:09PM (#2140126)
Is this parody or your real view?
Re:Live broadcast of LA Hacker News Meetup on Saturday January 22, 2011 @08:10PM (#2131513)
Who was the guy who was speaking about selling his videos and said he had created the presentation on the bus?

I think he presented before the guy who spoke about Perftools. Thanks!

Re:Comrades raise your pitchforks and take back the neighborhood on Wednesday January 19, 2011 @02:37PM (#2120935)
Sounds like the problem is sprawl and the fact that most of the houses near you are McMansions is besides the point. All houses in a climate that nears 100F are going to want AC.
Your (dbingham) argument is full of subjective arguments. Very judgmental.
