Pro tip: avoid hardware, stick to software. Just kidding.
The title should say "Student falsely IDed by Reddit and 4chan"...
Congrats to Joel and team. I remember reading your post [1] on HN from a couple of weeks ago about how you guys barely had 100 signups the first month. You've come a long way since then and totally deserve the success you're seeing. [1]

Don't you think people should accept both positive and negetive feedback.
Nice project. The spider was a bit unexpected though. I had to jolt back a bit. I then pulled it out of the web and it died. Phew. (:
That gave me a good chuckle. Well played.
A little too much, you see.
Wow. Very impressive site.
I wonder what it would look like if the stack was filled with one dollar bills rather than 100s. I'm sure the visualization would be quite mind boggling.
I agree with mgrassotti's sentiments.
No matter how good or technically important the person may be, if they're not someone you can casually grab coffee with, it's gonna be really tough to work with them. Since you're at a small startup, this rings even more true. That person is probably not fit for your place (culturally).
+1 for his site, really funny.
That's pretty awesome man. I wonder how many 360 flips you pulled off on the way ;)
Since you love programming, and by extension problem solving, think of the whole situation as a problem to solve. You are having a hard time trying to convince your parents that what you're doing is worthwhile -- to you, it's even more important than the other things you do because you're more passionate about it. There are a few things you could do here (some of them you just have to accept because you have no control).
1. You could work hard on your project, do everything in the power available to you to make it successful and prove them wrong. Possible, but just takes a lot more work and determination than you may think.
2. Fake it and please them. Let them always see you playing guitar or doing something they'd like to see you do. Still keep working hard at school, but in three years you could start doing the things you love. Also, you're still very young so there's a lot of time. And you'll definitely learn a lot in three years.
3. This is actually not as bad as you may think but you can just do what they say and you'll still be out in three years. You could always work on the stuff you want then. Don't automatically discount this idea.
These are just off the top of my head. I'm sure if you think about it pragmatically you'll come up with some good ideas to take the weight off your head. Take it easy.

We've recently been seeing a good number of new bookmarking services showing up (or launching) here on HN. Most of them do the same things (sync, import, export) with some variation of added or redacted features. There was an interesting one posted today called Tinmark. It looked good and promising but I was trying to remember what some of the other known ones were. Here's the list I came up...
Flagged because there isn't a disclaimer. For anyone reading, if you have many tabs open don't try it. It'll (as suggested by the name) crash your browser.
Chiming in here to say that I moved all my domains from GoDaddy to Namecheap, too. Fantastic service so far.

Just a quick tip for those of you who are on a browser or OS that doesn't make it easy to see highlighted text. e.g. Chrome on OSXPaste this in your console. It makes every text black.d=document.getElementsByTagName('font');for(i=0;i<d.length;i++)d[i].color='#000';Or make it a...
Super cool. Didn't even know this existed.
There are lots that are good.
MIT, Stanford, Caltech, Berkeley, CMU, Harvard, Princeton, UCLA, UCSD, Cal Poly, and hundreds more.
Maybe a little OT but:
Can you be considered an "ist" by having just a BS degree. That is, physicist, computer scientist, etc...
If no, what is the requirement? Masters or PhD?

It might be a little too early in the year but...1.) What product have you shipped so far? (side project, SaaS, MVP, open source, etc...)2.) Has it gotten any traction yet?
