This article just says to turn off the phone and go outside. Saved you 5 minutes

I’m getting outrage just by reading this comment.

edit: it makes me curious about how that works!

So you would prefer a couple of hundreds more soldiers dead, rather than signing lands over to Russia with zero casualties? You're weird.
Huly tut tak malo?
I was working for a company in France, while based in Latvia, and we worked according to B2B contract and I was just invoicing them and paid all my taxes. No problem.
Can you please explain, why the ruby engineer vacancy is remote only within certain countries - FR, PT, GB, NL, ET, and IT? Why if I live in Latvia or Poland, or Sweden, I can't work with you? I don't want to call you out, but it's just interesting to understand why it's like that and specifically, why we can't try to make the geography more diverse, at least within EU?

Yeah but it doesn’t matter - if someone inputs something weird you will anyhow fail with TypeError

For some reason, the left clock is going faster than right for me.

Ask HN: Have you ever not done anything on work whole day?

When working remotely, sometimes I find myself at the end of the day and see that I did nothing today for my software engineering work. Does it happen to you too? What do you say the next morning in the daily meeting to your manager, do you say honestly or come up with something?

This is why now instead of taking notes, I only take voice notes. Each time I need to think about something, to clarify in my mind, I launch Voice Memos on my iOS device and record my thoughts.

It immensely helped me to structure my mind and be more clear about my ideas. I highly recommend that to anyone.

Ask HN: How would you design a cringe detector?

I have a dream of making a cringe detector - a program that you could input a tweet or image, and it outputs how cringy it is.I am thinking, it could use a neural net, or not necessary.I was trying to imagine, how could that thing work? And actually out of clue. What do you think?

Looks very intriguing. I think we are safe to say this is where agile is really coming from.
Re:More content by people, for people in Search on Friday August 19, 2022 @08:55AM (#32520372)
I think it’s quite clear: when I search for something, what I want to see, it’s people arguing with each other on my topic of search, and I want to read their various arguments, and make my decision.

This is why I like HN and artisan forums so much, or even Reddit.

Google could do just one thing - prioritize giving out the discussions of real people. But they just don’t wanna do it apparently

TaaS (https://www.t-a-a-s.ru) - your own headless telegram instance (running on TDLib) accessible via API
You should try telegram. Can make your own channel there and share with close friends
Maybe we, men, really better want to impregnate woman sort of surprisingly.

Hey, but what I should do, if, say, I don’t have my own house and I really need to buy one? How can I just stop doing what I don’t love in that situation?

Also, what about the situation when one day you really love your work and find it very interesting and fulfilling, but the other day it’s just the opposite?

How did you find a job at Spotify btw? :)
My idea is about that, I think that every developer, when joins the project, must have an equal share of the whole profit of the company, just like the founders do. Otherwise it's not fair, that the product of their labor doesn't bring them any dividends.

But I agree that it's of course strange, for example, why would the builder of the house get the part of profits of the house after it's built? It's also a bit not fair

The big question is - maybe we should really move away from capitalism, to something like communism, but more like crazy utopic communism, where everyone is CEO? So such kind of problems wouldn't really happen? How do you think, could it help?

UPD: please don't downvote me, I am on spectrum

Why has this post disappeared from the home page?
That's so true. I was in similar situation as OP, I was always very rude and hardcore to my manager, and it was all fine - up until the point where I publiclly embarass her. That's when I got fired.

Though my plan was to fire her like this.

"When the X will be done?"

"Tell me when it's needed to be done!"

But isn't it one of the manager role goals to keep the developers churn down? I wonder, how is this balanced, when it's more important to have the correct subordination, or keeping the churn down.
