Referly is all about getting influencers and trendsetters paid. Thats it. Existing affiliate programs are broken and a UX that caters to that category is important for adoption. Its as simple as that.
Its current phase is only to build out the product and get their name out there to the smaller influencers from bloggers to those with relatively small following. The real money will come in when you start seeing Shaq's tweets with referly links.
Ask HN: What impact does a Truste seal have on user confidence and adoption?
I don't take the words of the author as a prophecy but I see where he is going; and isn't that what science fiction authors kinda did 20-30 years ago? They dreamt; and I wish more people can dream of greater possibilities.
Not too shabby for a reporter.
Ask HN: Did you learn how to program through pair/peer programming?
I'm learning Django and was looking to pair program with someone as a way of accelerating my learning. I was wondering what your experience like learning through pair programming and whether you have any suggestions on how to best make the most out of the session.
I can see it working in more open roads where this would be easy to see up ahead, but when space gets narrow, the visibility angle becomes tough.
Valiant effort though.

I agree with you that radical innovation doesn't come from just making things more efficient/simpler/easier, and I've argued that such a mindset yields local max solutions. The example of Fabricly was only used to display how an approach that addresses the problem from the root and transforms the way an industry operates is what radical innovation is (not about social shopping). Your definition seems to confine it to cutting edge industries with cutting edge technology; however, radical innovation could be in retail/food/other age old industries as much as it could be in space/biotech. Radical innovation is ultimately about the transformative result and technology is only a means to get there.
In Pursuit of Radical Innovation
I think that Rudy, Jonathan, and Brett had the right intentions with this post, but it backfired without having provided the proper context (which they tried to add in the comments here).
I contacted the guys yesterday with an idea for a project they can help execute with me and a group I'm working with. The idea was basically to setup individual pages for each individual that has lost his/her life during the Egyptian revolution. I thought having their families see the whole world's supporting messages could give them comfort and some closure.
The one thing that was missing was a front page that would combine all their profiles that would be a group memorial for visitors to land on first. I fired off the email and went to bed. I woke up 5am in the morning with 3 emails from Jonathan and an initial page already designed. I can't tell you how appreciative I was for the quick response and immediate action on their part. With this post specifically, the guys acted in the best interest of moving the project forward, but they just missed providing the proper context. It happens...so lets move on
This is an early project that needs all your help to improve it and promote it to something that makes these families proud.
I hope I brought some clarity to the situation.
A group for those going through LearnPythonTheHardWay?
I was wondering if there are enough people out there learning python through LPTHW to set up a group? I think it would be a great way to help each other with questions specific to the LPTHW exercises. What do you think?

Ask HN: How to go about pursuing a distribution deal with an online publisher?
I'm working on pursuing a distribution deal for my product with local online publishers. I have a good idea on how I want to structure the proposal and which publishers I want to pursue. I was wondering if any of you could share their experiences of how they approached forming distribution deals; what to look out for, and what are the ingredients for success?
Ask HN: An early client wants to pay for our SaaS offering using revenue share
We were able to land another early client for our SaaS offering and in negotiating the price I was surprised that he proposed that I lower the monthly fee in exchange for a revenue share payment model. His reasoning behind that is to give us a stake in the success of his business. That way we have an incentive to continuously look for ways to optimize his business process through our offering....
