One I know of is the EU-funded LUMI supercomputer:
https://www.lumi-supercomputer.eu/lumis-full-system-architec..."The AMD MI250X GPU is in a class of its own now and for a long time to come. The technical supremacy and performance per watt were the primary reasons why AMD’s MI250X GPUs were selected for LUMI, explains Pekka Manninen, Director of LUMI Leadership Computing Facility."

Also see Olkiluoto 3 in Finland:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olkiluoto_Nuclear_Power_Plant#..."The main contractor, Areva, is building the unit for a fixed price of €3 billion, so in principle, any construction costs above that price fall on Areva. In July 2012, those overruns were estimated at more than €2 billion, and in December 2012, Areva estimated that the full cost of building the reactor would be about €8.5 billion, well over the previous estimate of €6.4 billion."
Here's an issue with AppImages: they don't work with musl. Makes me sad.
> showing her how much you care by spending a bunch of money on something special
If this is what the other person expects out of a relationship it's time to jump ship ASAP.
I can't even hear the difference between 128 and 320 :|
> has exposed the incompetence of empty populism.
I'd say it has exposed incompetence in general.
I saw this joke in a thread somewhere:
Junior engineer: thinks they know everything
Intermediate engineer: thinks they know nothing
Senior engineer: hates computers

Happened to me a few years ago. Google account got terminated with no explanation. I used it for personal e-mail, watching videos on Youtube and to store personal files on Google Drive. I never posted anything anywhere public, including commenting on Youtube. Since then I've been self-hosting everything I can.
Right. The further away you drift from the median, the more difficult life gets in certain aspects. Drift far enough and it becomes impossible to fit in society at large, which is a huge penalty. This is true for all kinds of things, not just IQ. Personality traits, for instance.
Likely it's simply because that's one of the few occasions in modern life when we're not being bombarded with external stimuli. A few minutes of silence and your brain goes: "Right, now's a good time to present this thing I've been working on." Same thing with showers.
A part of me is appalled, but another is amused and intrigued. "The street finds its own uses for things," I guess.
Solitude is preferable to fake relationships.
Willingness to be vulnerable is necessary in close relationships. Otherwise there can't be a (meaningful) relationship. But being vulnerable by default leaves one open to endless manipulation.
I think vaping is a genuine improvement, provided that the law treats it like it does tobacco, i.e. no advertising, age restrictions, etc. This is an anecdote, but in countries where those restrictions are in place, just about every vaper seems to be an ex-smoker, and nobody thinks vaping is cool or attractive.
Yeah, I suppose... The post I was replying to just sounded to me a lot like something Epictetus could've said. As in, you shouldn't mind starving if you can't help it.
Now that I think about it, my memory of Epictetus seems to be really hazy, so I probably shouldn't try to discuss stoicism without doing some re-reading and thinking first.
Isn't that just run-of-the-mill stoicism?
This is anecdotal, but I think the common perception is that voting just doesn't matter - politicians make promises to get votes and don't follow through after the elections. And it's the same politicians cycling in and out, year after year. Clearly people are voting for them, but just as clearly there is a large portion of the population that feels like their concerns aren't being addressed.
What's interesting is that the people I know personally who've more or less given up on politics can't be clearly identified as belonging to a specific demographic. Some of them are students, some are male knowledge workers in their 20's and 30's, some are female medical professionals and administrators in their 50's and 60's. My father, who is an academic, has the most faith in the political process among the people I know.
I'm Finnish. Almost everyone I know has lost all confidence in the political system years ago.
To get any reasonable performance benefit out of 32+ cores the code running on those cores would have to be >75% parallelized.[1] I know very little about threading and such, but that seems like it would be a difficult thing to do for many (most?) applications. Point being that I doubt consumer CPUs will have that many cores until there's a clear benefit to it, and thus far there isn't. Even 8-16 cores is pushing it. If anyone reading this has more insight into the matter, I'd love to hear what you think.

Methinks the title is a bit too strongly worded. At that price point Radeon VII is unlikely to win many customers over. If some of the recent leaks[1] turn out to be true, then we can talk about "edging closer to breaking Nvidia's graphic dominance."

On the 10th anniversary of Baldur's Gate, Bioware put up a website that had quotes from a bunch of devs who worked on it. One of the people quoted said that the publisher, Interplay, kept rejecting Bioware's story drafts and ended up having their own team (Black Isle) write it. So if that is to be believed, Interplay/Black Isle did do more than just publish the game, but I haven't been able to find out exactly how involved they were in the development.
