Re:Ask HN: Is Telegram better than WhatsApp? on Friday May 19, 2017 @07:06AM (#14374444)
Small correction.

With Telegram your data ends up in Germany.

They are Berlin based and against the current Russian government AFAIK.

I'm an happy GNOME3/Wayland user, with a few extensions GNOME3 is very good.
Re:Ask HN: What do you want to see in Ubuntu 17.10? on Friday March 31, 2017 @09:43AM (#14003654)
- FLAVOR: [Ubuntu Desktop]

- HEADLINE: Join Wayland

- DESCRIPTION: Instead of reinventing the wheel with Unity8/Mir, please join Wayland development and maybe join forces with Linux Mint and switch from Unity to Cinnamon or MATE, with Flatpak supports for desktop apps.

Wait, so you are telling me a not-even-in-beta software is not secure?

That's a very important news!

Re:BSDploy – FreeBSD jail provisioning on Thursday February 09, 2017 @09:49AM (#13607271)
It was said already in the past, and I agree.

Naming.

Too many letters in a *BSD, too scary. Linux is more toy-ish and thus more appealing as a name.

Plus the UCL vs BSD legal war, which shifted much of the community towards Linux.

Just a note:

So why aren't they just using a GitHub page for this?

Because it's a Spanish company.
Re:20 years as a Debian maintainer on Wednesday January 11, 2017 @07:07AM (#13373358)
Wheezy was my last one as well.

I fully migrated my personal laptop to FreeBSD (as TrueOS) a few weeks ago, after using it as my second OS at home.

And because I need Linux for work, I migrated to Devuan on my workstation, as I need to use Ansible and Docker in a stable way as part of my DevOps job.

What would you suggest then?

In my experience, only Thinkpads and Latitudes have provided me satisfying user experiences.

Except XPS 13 and Macbook Pros, which I tried and I don't like the feeling.

I bought a T420s a few months ago.

I am selling my much newer MacBook Pro retina now, as the Thinkpad is so much more functional, the keyboard is amazing the feeling of the machine itself is fantastic.

I am thinking to buy a X260 brand new because I need a newer CPU and better battery life, but for sure I'll only buy Thinkpads or Latitudes (I have one at work, amazing machine) from now on.

Why should I use this instead of Kubernetes?

She is one with the Force, the Force is with her.

Re:Ubuntu still isn't free software on Saturday December 03, 2016 @11:56AM (#13096384)
I'm in Europe and even some non-tech know what a Linux Mint is. And a lot of newbies I help to install Linux on their laptops explicitly ask for it as well. Many are lost with Ubuntu/Unity interface and are much more happy with Cinnamon on Mint.
Re:Ubuntu still isn't free software on Friday December 02, 2016 @08:15AM (#13088269)
Mint is already killing them on the desktop, how long before a "Mint server" arrives?

And yes, Debian for servers, but some people wants more up to date software.

Re:Windows 10 in-place upgrades are a severe security risk on Tuesday November 29, 2016 @03:01AM (#13061584)
Nope, Gnome Software can upgrade systems now.
Also, a few years ago Xamarin actually ported Android (then 2.2. IIRC) to Mono/C#, as a test for Java->C# converters, and the result was faster than Android/Java.
Nice.

Now please make C# a first-class citizen in Android and start to migrate from Java to C#.

Re:Why Twitter Must Be Saved on Tuesday November 08, 2016 @06:09PM (#12904783)
Twitter will be absorbed by a big one (possibly Google), so no need for this kind of posts.

And if it dies, let it be. Another one will come up.

Agree... No love for EU users :/
