I love this. How do you house & secure your lily on your bike?

Re:3,200% CPU Utilization on Friday February 28, 2025 @09:21PM (#43214942)
This is a fairly common bug in multithreaded use of .NET Dictionary, too.
Re:Harvard Diploma for Sale on Tuesday April 20, 2021 @12:30AM (#26870687)
> And once you’ve realized this, the diploma starts to resemble Monopoly money. You have to start evaluating people on a case-by-case basis, instead of using the degree as a reliable proxy.

I’ve found this to be true of job titles, too.

Re:Facebook React.js License on Wednesday October 12, 2016 @12:49PM (#12694453)
Thanks Paul. None of those answers are addressing the main critique of the article though.
Re:Facebook Will Lose 80% Of Its Users By 2017 on Wednesday January 22, 2014 @12:10PM (#7103891)
Or they are using the mobile apps more and more.
Re:Facebook CSRF leading to full account takeover (fixed) on Sunday October 20, 2013 @06:31AM (#6579483)
I disagree with that. It's a get request that is changing state server-side. That is a dead giveaway for a CSRF vulnerability.
Re:City of Boston drops Microsoft for Gmail on Friday May 10, 2013 @10:23PM (#5689496)
Have you tried their latest one? The consumer version is at outlook.com
Re:Mock your HTTP responses to test your REST API on Friday May 03, 2013 @02:24PM (#5651701)
Would someone provide an example on how this tool could be used to test a REST API? I think I'm missing something here. I'm not seeing how a fake response endpoint lets me test my REST API (shouldn't my test code invoke the API and validate that the real response was correct?)
I'm not familiar with Win32 APIs. Could you elaborate more as to how they would enable you to control the client like a zombie?
Encrypted communication is not very useful if you aren't sure who you are communicating with. Using a self-signed cert greatly increases this uncertainty.
Re:Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server will have Git support on Wednesday January 30, 2013 @09:14PM (#5142999)
It was also possible in 2010 via the quick access feature in the power tools extension.

It is different from the Windows app store, but MS also just released an app store for Office & SharePoint that seems to be more enterprise focused.

Re:List of those who voted for and against CISPA on Saturday April 28, 2012 @05:29AM (#3902503)
Aren't they recorded differently though? Even though it doesn't change the results, you should be able to tell the difference between those who vote "nay" and those who just don't vote.
Maybe I'm missing something, but how is this a danger of SOAP? You could misconfigure any endpoint.
Re:How I helped destroy Star Wars Galaxies on Friday March 09, 2012 @06:04PM (#3686377)
Thanks a lot for sharing. I hadn't heard of IDA/OllyDbg before.
Fun stuff.

In chapter 1 of the Url shortener, the task is to display "Awesome" at the root path, but the validator checks for "awesome." Took me a second to notice the discrepancy.

Would love to hear more about the tools of the trade. What did you use back then for debugging/packet sniffing, and what would you use now?
Re:Youporn.com is now a 100% Redis Site on Thursday February 16, 2012 @01:23PM (#3599957)
Perhaps the 300k/s figure was at peak load.
This post made me curious to learn more about new relic and their architecture. I found this post pretty interesting: http://highscalability.com/blog/2011/7/18/new-relic-architec...
Re:Code snippets on Microsoft website shown in form of images. on Wednesday December 07, 2011 @12:56PM (#3324909)
There are plenty of MS employees on HN. I'm curious...what makes you think someone who works on translator is less likely to know what HN is?
Re:Welcome to Windows 8 – The Developer Preview on Wednesday September 14, 2011 @01:50AM (#2995055)
Got it up and running on a hyper-v VM in about 30minutes. Running great, but I can't figure out what the 'back' button equivalent is on the keyboard so that I can exit the App I'm in :)

edit: Turns out it's the windows key! I couldn't use it from the hyper-vm client, but once I remoted in via Remote Desktop it worked great. Loving the apps so far.

Re:Steve Jobs Presents His Ideas For A New Apple Campus on Wednesday June 08, 2011 @04:13AM (#2632402)
I felt differently when I visited. If anything, they at least show a progression over the general phases of the campus. Buildings 1-9 are very similar, as are the triangle buildings 16-18. A lot of the newer buildings (ie the 'Studios') are almost exactly the same. There are a few other buildings on campus (late 20's or 3*?) that show a similar architecture to the studios. But then, there is 'Red West' which is its own little mini campus in terms of design.

The reason I asked was because I wanted to see Microsoft categorized in such an easy and quick manner as Google/Apple. I must admit that I myself can't do that.

Re:Steve Jobs Presents His Ideas For A New Apple Campus on Wednesday June 08, 2011 @04:08AM (#2632386)
I have to ask - what is Microsoft style?

Edit: Disclosure, I have been to Microsoft's campus, but I just couldn't help but ask this question. :)

That's just for facebook. With a live account cou can office web apps tied with hotmail/skydrive.
Re:Osama bin Laden Is Dead on Monday May 02, 2011 @12:24AM (#2505092)
Strange, I watched it on that site at 11:30pm est, but now at 12:24pm est the video is no longer available...
Re:Osama bin Laden Is Dead on Monday May 02, 2011 @12:20AM (#2505076)
You are assuming that we are dealing with rational people who have rational thoughts. That couldn't be further from the truth. People who plan the mass-murder of others around the world are completely irrational, and I am very confident that there are tons of people with money, organization, and leadership that will step up and try to continue Bin Laden's efforts.
Re:Show HN: My weekend project: Twtspire on Monday March 07, 2011 @01:33AM (#2296284)
It's like that in en-US too. I also read it as "twat spire" :)
Re:Everything that can go wrong with Windows Phone 7 update does on Tuesday February 22, 2011 @11:04PM (#2252984)
Your solution is rash and doesn't do much more than illustrate your ignorance. This article is one of the first reports, and doesn't even contain numbers in terms of how many users are affected.

Sit back and wait for the real story to unfold, then make an analysis and contribute something. Simply bursting out with "Fire them all!" and the first report of a problem is childish at best.
