Great advice! Ya, in the end I am willing to make some sacrifices if it helps and we have some tentative plans. Cheers.
Thanks so much for the input! Ya I am currently in Philadelphia and like it quite a lot. But I never even took the leap to go out West. My sister lives there and shares your sentiments. I appreciate it.

So I am a contractor at FAANG in a major US city. I have participated in startups for some time, enjoyed it a lot, gotten to a YC interview once (sadly didn’t make it). One of my best buddies is talking about maybe relocating to the Valley (I am on the east coast) and I am very interested in joining him. We both work at the same company on the same project and want to pursue our remote...
I could not agree with you more, it amazes me the mental gymnastics some will go through in the quest to convince themselves otherwise of something wholly obvious. Sure, you could take the CCP’s word for it (because their behavior is not at all suspicious and they have a great track record when it comes to human rights). And sure, to some that might hold a lot of weight. However, even if rumored, don’t you want to be the one that doesn’t support genocide regardless?
I mine Bitcoin in my basement :) two Antminer S17+ 73T/hs makes me almost 1k a month profit!
Ya and it’s amazing that people think it can be easily replicated. To get to that level you must be the one percent of the one percent of gamers typically. Most coders can be “professional” with a boot camp these days.
Are you a pro League player? Because if not this is irrelevant. Even the difference between leagues is substantial. And I have played since beta if that makes a difference. Sure I am not bad and I get that I could auto-pilot. But I doubt either of us are all that good; I certainly am not a pro, despite playing for a decade+
I humbly disagree, and if you have not competed at the pro level in an RTS (Starcraft is another absurdly hard game that requires hundreds of actions a minute) then I believe your view is skewed. When I code all day there are tasks I can auto pilot. Rebase from gerrit, an amend, maybe hunting down answers on Stack Overflow. Sure, I get that coding != video games. But the skills Tyler has or someone who plays as a pro Star Craft player are Masters at a craft that takes way more than auto pilot. In many cases it is physically demanding too and I think you’re giving the wrong impression. It’s not a game at that point, it’s a profession, and an absurdly tough one at that. Machines can beat people at chess. Our AI had struggled for years to beat humans at Star Craft. I find that inspiring, and am in awe some people can push themselves so hard to be that good.
Wow, I love this edit, I’m agnostic myself but that seems rather neat. I remember reading about how Warren Buffet, despite not being particularly religious, has read the Bible like 7 times or something. I always found that rather interesting. Thanks!
I have a solid CS background and tried once to read GEB and while very enthralling I could only get about a quarter through. I will have to try that one again. Cheers.
Fair enough haha, thanks this is a great list, Foundation has always been something I wanted to read.
One of my all time favorites!
So I’ve read Hitchhiker’s but was always curious about the others he wrote, any thoughts? Thanks!
Wow thank you for taking the time to write this list I really appreciate it! I have always wanted to read Don Quixote but had trouble figuring out which translation. This is awesome I will for sure be getting that one and perhaps some others. Have a great Monday.
Awesome, this sounds super interesting, thanks!
*The review was a popular post on HN last night for anyone who has not read it, I rather enjoyed it :)

Life is too short to read crummy books. So after reading the review on Blade Runner 2049 which touched on PKD and Nabokov I have decided get Pale Fire. I am curious what you would recommend on top of that (I was also planning to get A Confederacy of Dunces). That said, take a penny leave a penny, if you haven’t read A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again or Gibsons’ Neuromancer, try and...
I was fortunate enough at uni to have a professor who edited Dick’ Exegesis and had a wonderful talk on it. During the process, which took many, many years, he said it would often become a task not to get so wrapped up in it all. At moments biting and prescient; others unreadable, schizophrenic runoff. I imagine if he struggled through it perhaps some of it is simply unreadable. I know he mentioned having to work with PKDs estate and of the excerpts I have read it does have a much different feel then his other works. The professor was brilliant, turning me on to other treasures like William Gibson. Just thought I’d share, cheers!
Wow I never thought of that bust so unique :D thanks for the stellar advice and bon soir!
I needed this. Thank you. It’s been all rah rah on my side of things but I totally agree. I want to make an impact on the world and with this accelerator interview, I have somehow landed a dream come true, but I think my biggest risk is not staying humble and realize that I don’t need to be someone else or waste time worrying about competition. I need to be mean. I need focus on finishing this app with customers at the for-front of my mind. I appreciate you :D
So my partner has been getting really deep into transcendental meditation and it has really been seeming to help with him. I just tonight had him show me some of his methods and just tried to focus and my breathing and I’ll tell ya what, there has been great advice throughout but this has potential for sure. The meeting is soon so I’m going to for sure try breathing deeper. Thanks!
Sadly I have had great results but in the end have made a conscious decision to avoid benzos, simply too alluring. Thanks for the advice though, definitely a game changer.
This is great and I talked to the other founders today and this is about what we are going to do. My wife is actually a partner as well, she is a chemical engineer helping with the hard science I am just a coder, but we may create an LLC to hold the shares with no cliff that we got at par price and then the rest will vest (like 75%) just to ensure investors aren’t spooked by a shareholder having so many unvested shares in a nascent but growing company. Thank you for the response!
Thanks a ton for the reply and apologies on the late one on my part. I zonked out right after. I can see that but I do think appreciate the answer as it clears some up for me. Cheers!

So I have been involved in a new startup that has been fortunate enough to land some interviews this past week. We pivoted an MVP and landed customers within a month which was really exciting and it helped us land so some meetings with huge potential. Queue my social anxiety. I tend to ramble and that can lead to me being a bit defensive. I am just curious how others deal with accelerator or VC...

I am currently involved with a company that brought me on as an angel investor but I also have co-founder status (I am technical and worked with the CEO to help crank out our MVP, which even started generating revenue which is neat). And have about 1/3 of the equity in the cap table. They are very fair and the other two founders are great. We are trying to go by the book and I’m just curious...
Wow, absolutely fantastic mate! So cool; a friend and I tried our hands at making a game in Unity called Galactic Putt a while back, with a similar riff, but sadly the physics got the best of us and we never finished. It is really inspiring to see someone with a one man team put out something so stellar. Keep up the good work!!!

Hey all! So I have been slowly working on a pet project that, in it's simplest iteration, is a mobile gaming arcade. That said, I have become disillusioned with the current pay-to-win model (as has the U.S. government, apparently). I have encountered a few games (Path of Exile comes to mind) that embrace a play-to-win mindset and I am just trying to brainstorm some cool alternatives that a)...
>11. Always pay your debts
This. Not only in regard to tech debt but so many things when running a business. Great article, thanks.
Cool! This is a great list and I will be sure to review. I appreciate it and will definitely try and reach out at some points. Cheers.
