Very useful in England’s countryside, imagine all the puddles you can jump over! Eliminate these passing bays when cars can jump over each other in the narrow lanes!

This is true on ext4 but don’t use swapfile with ZFS or btrfs fs.
Re:GUIs should be fully keyboard-driven
on Saturday August 29, 2026 @07:38AM (#49489049)
I practically live in the terminal but can’t live without a mouse. I’ve been using Vim (now Neovim) exclusively as my sole editor and everything in tmux including my email. I agree with the power of the keyboard but a properly configured mouse is a truly powerful terminal utility.

Claude comes with very nice hook-api you can use it to customise notifications and allow tmux window to blink or to come to the front when Claude needs your attention

Re:I Got Sick of Remembering Port Numbers
on Friday May 01, 2026 @02:19AM (#47971760)
Perhaps we could even make the file the port itself, perhaps calling it a “socket”? A “unix socket” would be a great name. If we could place all these files behind a local reverse proxy then we could use localhost/jekyll or localhost/fastapi. It’s just a dream

I read somewhere that Spotify initially seeded their db with pirated music! Now they go after anyone following their suit! It’s like a mafia’s boss that became mayor and is suddenly tough on crime, without acknowledging his past history!

Agreed. Minus the nuclear and air defence, Iran is more advanced than US and Russia in many other weapons capabilities.

The global Shia’s population is even larger than Russia’s population, and more willing to fight the US/Israel. Russia is of course superior to Iran technologically but Iran has the larger support worldwide.
Re:From Proxmox to FreeBSD and Sylve in Our Office Lab
on Tuesday March 31, 2026 @12:58AM (#47582915)
The article promotes the value of UI for the infrastructure by touching on ZFS. But in this age of Ai, what I’m really looking for is a good api or cli one can let LLM drives. I basically care more about using my infrastructure than how to create it. I know proxmox can do this, but I wish there was a nixos like system where all my VMs are in one file I can verify between LLM making the change and deployment

How do you propose fixing that? Let the kids take both parents last names? In few generations you end with kids having their entire family tree as their last name! It might even make marrying within the tribe attractive again to keep last name single word!

I like how Apple introduced the CMD key, with copy/paste linked to it in the terminal, leaving CTRL to work as intended. Even outside the terminal basic emacs key binding work as intended, such as c-k c-u etc
Re:You might not need tmux
on Saturday August 02, 2025 @02:17AM (#44765230)
The author of Kitty, Kovid Goyal, calls running tmux on local sessions an “anti-pattern” in the linked GitHub issue. I can’t help but find that a bit ironic, because the very first time I tried Kitty, I was in the middle of work when I discovered Arabic support was broken - https://github.com/kovidgoyal/kitty/issues/536 . I simply launched the macOS Terminal app, attached to the same tmux session, verified my Arabic text rendered correctly, and then closed Kitty. Without tmux, I would’ve been forced to recreate my entire workflow from scratch.

The benefits it works everywhere, even on the blink app on iPhone when you suddenly have to pull out your phone in an emergency, connect to your tmux session away from your usual workstation.
Re:You might not need tmux
on Friday August 01, 2025 @07:19AM (#44755323)
Absolutely! You also have full control over the history size, along with powerful search capabilities. You can move panes and windows seamlessly across sessions, and even share those sessions with other users. My yank script integrates with tmux buffers, so copy/paste works flawlessly, even in vertical splits. I strongly disagree with the article; I simply can’t imagine using a terminal without tmux.

Totally agree! If you don’t want AWS turning your project into a paid service without giving you a dime, you’ve got to pick a license that stops that. BSD doesn’t cut it!
