The AI summary here is right and the human info is wrong -- Anthropic does publish the Cursor extension in general, but did not publish this version
Eh, I think many of the harms of AI are currently also nebulous. It's not as though the harms are all concrete and massive and the benefits are vague and "in the future"

I feel like this is way more true of Instacart. Ordering takeout is just not that necessary.

This is awesome, I love OSRS and I've often wondered what the world would be like if bots were how you were supposed to play the game. Great project!

Agreed. It's not at all clear that GitHub as an independent company would be doing much better at dealing with this new world than GitHub within Microsoft is doing.

Absolutely, it becomes a much smaller niche. Most people just want a table. Only a few want something unique.

Obvious parallels to today (e.g. Allbirds rebranding as an AI company)
I also didn't know until recently that there was a follow-up study by some of the same authors -- in the aftermath of the dotcom crash, removing .com from a company's name caused a corresponding valuation jump: https://home.business.utah.edu/finmc/Dotcom_Paper_JCFVersion...

There's an analogy here in woodworking -- rich people still go to craftspeople when they want e.g. a table that doesn't look like everyone else's. Same way people need to work with software engineers / web designers now, if they want to have a website that doesn't look like everyone else's.

Yeah I was already feeling like this year was my crow year, and now I'm understanding how easy it is??

This seems to have a pretty serious reverse-causation problem -- it's possible that popular software gets more contributors because it's popular, which seems intuitively correct, and that explains the correlation between number of contributors and popularity much more clearly than this nebulous idea that "maybe the number of contributors makes the software better and better software becomes more popular"

Yeah this has essentially already happened for HVAC - repair is often more expensive than replacement because labor is so expensive and parts are so cheap.

I love picking up these practical skills even though I hardly ever use them. I did a whole course in avalanche safety right before I left Colorado. Now I live in Philadelphia. Still happy I did it.
