Re:RFC 10023: A DNS signal for domains that are for sale on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @01:05AM (#49722308)

We soon realised that the underlying method could be useful beyond .nl as well. So at SIDN Labs, we decided to turn the idea into an RFC and take it through the IETF process.

Taking it through the IETF was an interesting and very educational experience. There were both supporters and people who challenged various aspects of the proposal, but I think the document ultimately became much better because of that.

RFC 10023: A DNS signal for domains that are for sale

The IETF recently published RFC 10023, which I authored. It defines a small DNS convention for signalling that a registered domain is currently for sale. What has been particularly encouraging is the amount of traction and support it has already received so soon after publication. A number of tools and projects have already added support or are building around the idea, including:-...

That's not the whole story.

Read our blog for the motivation behind it:

Hi, author of RFC 10023 here.

If you’d like to get a better understanding of the concept, have a look here: https://rfc10023.nl

The biggest use case today, at SIDN (the registry for the .nl ccTLD), is described here: https://github.com/SIDN/ForSale-RFC10023/blob/main/examples/...

At home I have my own (Unbound) resolver, when on the road I use NextDNS.

You are right, but the wordings are chosen with the average internet user in mind. Luckily the 'DNSSEC'-word between brackets at the end let's you, the more tech savvy user, know what was really ment.

What does the 'detailed report' say at the DNSSEC-part?
