Ask HN: Are there any direct ad networks for gaming sites?

I am running a new gamers network ( with approx 11k members, 80k uniques, 1m pageviews, 13 min duration ) and I'd like to switch to a direct advertiser.I already tried BuySellAds and iSocket but they rejected us. The most likely reason: the site is relative new and went online just 2 months ago.We have a lot great user content and even more media, but our Alexa, Compete or Google ranking...

Thanks for mentioning it. I wasn't quite sure, but we're probably not penalized, so I haven't done a reconsideration request. Apparently it's now indexing slowly again.
Thanks for the advice, I'll try it over the re-inclusion request.

Ask HN: Please help me with seo. 600k player statistics are not getting indexed.

Hi everyone, I'm having problems with my site getting indexed. I thought a hackernews member might could help me.My site's holding about 600k player statistics and almost none of them are getting indexed. I'm not exactly sure what the reason is. About a week ago google crawled and indexed 300k pages in about 2-3 days but a few days later they dropped everything again. We have more content than...

I'm sorry if your scan might take a while, the machine just can't handle this amount of traffic.

I'm sorry for the circumstances, it should work now.

Good point. I'll fix that. Thank you.
Re:Ask HN: What music do you like to listen to while you program? on Wednesday December 28, 2011 @10:27AM (#3400010)
Depends on the time and my mood.

I certainly wake up and stop hesitating after I turned on a fast track.

Sure. Send me a email at [email protected] with the email address you used and I will remove everything associated with it, including the email address of course.

To our knowledge, the only way someone could access this information is if the web server itself is compromised.

We checked all entry points and are confident that no one will ever get access to this db.

Removing trap templates - excellent idea. Thank you!

Spam - good point. We need to work on verification. Currently, it only works 20 times per IP address. But that's 20 times too many.

Unfortunately, storing a phone number is necessary for this to work. We are open to suggestions for any better solutions anyone may have.

At first I thought this was a copy of lineofthought.com, but it has been created in a way it can stand for it's own.
Re:Ask HN: Should I sell my side project? on Saturday June 25, 2011 @11:19PM (#2697278)
Riot Games just send us an email again, selling this product to someone who might spam around with this site,

is out of question now; especially after they contacted me directly and know me personally now.

Anyway thanks for putting my mind together.

Ask HN: Should I sell my side project?

Hello Everyone,I'm currently in a very bad situation and I'm not sure what to do. I thought maybe someone could help me find a solution.About two months ago I got in touch with someone who wanted to pay me about 5 grands to develop a software client which gathers ingame statistics of a game called "League of Legends" and eventually hire me later for developing a website to present some of...

I just finished DNF and I actually liked it.

It's not a game I would like to play more than once but in my opinion, it was worth his pre order price. I was entertained about 8-10 hours with mini games, some jokes and first person action.

There're parts which appear unfinished and can't be missed, but DNF can be a entertaining game if you can look over it.

The video looks a little bit like the open compute project video from facebook .

Isn't pumping so much water through the pipes less efficient compared to facebooks method of cooling air down by spraying the water ?

See fb method at http://livestre.am/wBjp

Too bad gearbox took over it, would have been better if 3D Realms could finish the game.

It's also disappointing they didn't accomplished a stunning graphic after more than 12 years of development.

Regardless of the graphic it's almost the only game of his kind and I still expecting a good gameplay with many jokes.

Hail to the king baby.

For everyone who couldn't attend, you can watch it online. http://www.youtube.com/user/GoogleDevelopers
sure, dependes of course if you're using redis only for a simple key value store.
Sounds like a possible redis or memcached replacement.

A performance comparision with memcached would be interesting.

Ask HN: How can I make my commercial software open source?

Hi everyone, first things first, I would like to apologize for my bad English.I just tell a short story of what we've done, but you can skip this and scroll down directly to my questions. After three to four years continuous developing an enterprise vulnerability scan solution I have to admit “I am done with it”. Now I'm thinking to make this solution at least somehow useful, by making it open...

Re:SETI Institute suspends search for aliens on Tuesday April 26, 2011 @06:07AM (#2484581)
I feel really sorry about it and I hope they'll make it.

Maybe they should consider writing more appreciated applications.

They could write more applications which involve people for the AI search.

I don't know what could reduce time to find AI, but I would bet SETI could get many volunteers if they just would provide a social network application (e.g. facebook).

There must be more than just calculation distribution.

Sounds to me like MySQL is trying to keep up with mongodb.

A littte bit late but I cant wait for some benchmarks.

If they also going to implement sharding next time, they keep my primary choice for new web projects.

Using multiple words or even sentences as password (as described in the article) doesn't even work always, there are too many websites or application which have a password length limit.

I recommend to use a password manager, KeePass is quite good.

Good password manager should be able to easily generate a new strong and complex password every time.

Remembering only one password and getting rid of the laziness of choosing always the same password is another advantage too.

Even if a website that stored your password in clear text and someone hacks the website, you shouldn't have to worry about other applications or services you may have used with the same password.

My personal rule is to choose unique strong passwords (alphanumeric and symbols) with at least 9 chars.

Brute forcing a password with 8 chars was with my 5870 no big deal at all, but cracking a password with 9 chars is too expensive (ec2 gpu) or takes to long for the usual hacker.

If someone really brute forces my password, with gpu and a cluster support, damn, than he really deserve it.

But that's just my two cents.
