What kind of games do your kids play on Alexa?
Re:Twenty questions is a weird game on Tuesday November 15, 2022 @08:01AM (#33608626)
Indeed, I'll change that so you can see the word after you run out of time/questions. The word was belt.

Do they see this game as good way to practice their English?
Re:Twenty questions is a weird game on Tuesday November 15, 2022 @07:20AM (#33608235)
Thanks for the suggestion! Changed it to 'ask your question here...'

My PhD project is to work on language model capable of playing the answerer in a Twenty Questions game (reverse of Akinator). If you are interested you can play here: https://twentle.com (best on mobile)

The goal is to play together with other people with a leaderboard on a large screen. The player who found the most words wins the game! It is a bit similar to quiplash.

On the back-end is a GPT-3 model answering the questions with: never, rarely, sometimes, always or usually.

Direction display would be useful. You don't need to look at your phone anymore.

Would a smarter auto-correct help?
Did you also try with "retrieval" models models such as RAG, REALM, etc ?

Show HN: String Similarity Comparison in Google Sheets

Hi HN,With the following function, you can compare the semantic of two strings in Google Sheet. It is essentially a wrapper around the Universal Sentence Encoder [1].It will encode two sentences and return the cosine similarity between the two embeddings. It works with English, and 15 other languages. It can compare two sentences even if they are in different languages. For example:...

You can't do pull requests on a normal website. IMO, it is a nice experiment.
Re:Show HN: Financial Markets Dashboard on Monday September 09, 2019 @10:31AM (#20918523)
Thanks for your suggestions. It is updated every day at market close. Will add a dropdown to select between YTD/MTD/1Y. Would you be interested in receiving a weekly update to your inbox?
Re:Show HN: Financial Markets Dashboard on Monday September 09, 2019 @10:20AM (#20918423)
Hi guys,

I realized the internet lacks a simple place to monitor financial markets: a list of markets and their year-to-date performance, nothing more.

There it is.

Let me know what you think!

Maxime.

Re:Consume less, create more on Saturday August 24, 2019 @10:24AM (#20787291)
Thank you for this. It is so simple, yet so true.
Re:Ask HN: How do you monitor financial markets? on Friday August 16, 2019 @05:40PM (#20719991)
Thanks, I will check it out. There are a few python wrappers around Bloomberg APIs. For example: https://github.com/kyuni22/pybbg. It mimicks the Bloomberg Excel formulas (BDP, BDH, BDS). Quite powerfull. But you can hit the daily limit easily (500,000 data points per day max). They released the Bloomberg Query Language (BQL) that you can use to make larger queries. But not all FLDS fields are available yet... They also provide BQNT, a jupyter notebook where you can run BQL queries and share "apps" with your colleagues.
Really interesting project IMO. It would be great to have this linked with an app that actually computes how much CO2 you consume while travelling and proposes to offset whatever you are consuming.

Ask HN: How do you monitor financial markets?

Hi HN,How do you monitor financial markets?I used to have a Bloomberg Terminal license at my previous job. Now that is gone, I lack a good tool to monitor markets (like WEI<Go>/WB<Go>/GMM<Go>). Or something similar to the launchpad?Which app/website do you guys use?Thank you,Maxime.

Re:Show HN: Poker arena for AI/ML bots on Friday August 16, 2019 @09:42AM (#20715023)
Hi HN,

Regular poker platforms ban the use of bots. They fear bots provides an unfair advantage. But honestly, I don't think it is the right response. Instead of fighting the use of bots, platforms should think hard on how to best incorporate bots in the game with humans.

For example, I could find on several forums that the capacity to analyze thousands of "hand histories" provides an unfair advantage to bots. Ok, fair enough. The solution is simple: anonymize players and hand histories become worthless.

That is why I am working on a poker platform for bots. The one thing I learned in StartupSchool 2019 is that you should talk to potential users before working on a solution. So here I am with a discussion and a landing page :-)

What do you guys think?

Thank you!

Maxime.

Re:Show HN: Homer – A Text Analyzer in Python on Friday August 16, 2019 @06:56AM (#20713865)
Really cool. It would be super useful to have this in other languages as well, french in my case. This would be a useful addition to a grammar checker I am currently developing.
Re:Show HN: Online Treasure Hunt/Q&A on Tuesday December 18, 2018 @02:46AM (#18705120)
Hi HN.

This is a new side project of mine.

The goal is to create a series of questions & answers and use it for off-line treasure hunts, team buildings, online quizzes, or giveaway contests.

FYI: there is a Spider-Man PS4 giveaway contest scheduled on the 23rd of December.

Why did I build this? On the night of Halloween, I created a static website with that my friends had to visit and answer the questions/instructions. Once you answered a question correctly, you were taken to the next. It was in a sense an online treasure hunt that took them from my apartment to the nearest bar, and then to the nearest parc. It was fun. So I decided to make a website out of it. Here it is.

Let me know what you think.

Maxime.

PS: the static website is on my GitHub https://maximedb.github.io/halloween18/
