Glad you pointed out the UI work. I've been doing a lot of it and it's so much better than 5.6 as UI, it's unbelievable. I give it super ambiguous instructions and it's reading my mind. I do the same thing with 5.6 and I'm correcting it for a few minutes.
To me, this quote just about sums it up:

> The mechanism is standard adtech. What has no precedent is running it on an AI chat product.

As someone who has been well aware of this mechanism for quite some time, I still feel icky anytime I re-read the details of it.

What a time to be alive.

Ask HN: What do you do when your AI agents are working?

Maybe a dumb question but I don't think I've ever experienced more down/waiting time in my career so I'm much more prone to opening YouTube, HN, etc. despite not really wanting to.Most likely the answer is to just sit and do nothing. But have you discovered an approach to making agentic coding, etc work for you without feeding into distraction and attention deficit?

Re:I returned to AWS, and was reminded why I left on Sunday May 10, 2026 @01:23PM (#48085869)
This title sounds like an employment experience post: "returned to" and "left" both pretty strongly insinuate joining AWS and leaving employment, not simply using it as a customer.

Great reference. It's a shame most people seeing this comment won't get it.
I wonder if people climbing the management ranks experience something similar.

Ask HN: Best FOSS budgeting tool (AI integrated)?

After seeing how Claude can help me clean up my disk space in no time I figured I could find some easy budget improvements with it. Perhaps just pulling in some CSVs to Claude would do the trick but I figured I'd check if there's most of a full-service solution that anyone is using, or maybe even a non-AI solution that I could modify.

If smartphone companies and social media companies are stating that their products are causing a mental health crisis, there's probably some merit to that.
Wowww this is amazing. I've made a few remakes of slime basketball and am planning to do another one, especially with AI coding now being a thing. This is really nice, well done!

Ask HN: Will you take advantage of the Apple ruling?

Given yesterday’s ruling that Apple can’t take a cut of purchases made outside the App Store and must allow devs to link out freely, are you actually planning to do anything with this? As a small developer, I’m weighing whether it’s worth the effort to build around the App Store now that (supposedly) we can keep 100% of off-platform revenue. Curious what others are thinking and at what point...

Re:Interviewing a software engineer who prepared with AI on Monday April 07, 2025 @02:54PM (#43614666)
I think this was the whole point of the blog post. As someone else mentioned, this didn't have much to do with AI so referencing AI seems purely like an attempt to capture some eyes for publicity.

I'd actually say that _not_ using AI to prepare for an interview is mistake, putting you at a major disadvantage (and there are plenty of honest ways to use it).

> "We detect no activity by nation-state actors in our networks at this time," an AT&T spokesperson said.

Sounds like the root of the issue.

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (October 2024) on Monday October 28, 2024 @09:40AM (#41970923)
I quit my job and depleted savings earlier this year to work on helping others overcome addictive habits and behaviors https://neurtureapp.com

Addiction is rampant right now, from social media and phones to vaping and beyond. People need access to science/research-based resources, not just a “sober” counter, which doesn’t apply to many people and is rarely helpful to those it applies to.

Working with a behavioral scientist and a clinical psychologist on the UX and content of the app at the moment but any thoughts, feedback, connections, or help would be amazing.

Ask HN: Niche AI tools you actually find useful?

If you look at ProductHunt and other places like that you’ll just see a sewer pipe full of crappy AI products. But there are surely some out there in different areas that have a nice UI and provide a lot of value. Do you have any that you’ve found? (I’m specifically curious about a language learning tool for complete beginners but wondering about other niches as well)

I just upgrade to iOS 18 to try this and couldn't find it. How do you actually do it?
What I particularly like about the Descript version (though it is overdone as mentioned) is that it reduces or eliminates the pesky S sounds and P sounds (called sibilances and plosives) that you get when you talk into a microphone and you're not perfectly distanced from it.

I haven't found another app that reduces or removes these.

I love Descript. Their "convert to studio quality" feature is better than Adobe's and ElevenLabs, in my experience.

I wondered if this particular feature was really worth paying for so I was happy that I found Audapolis.

I would imagine that requests for this feature went way up as ChatGPT has popularized.

Looks really nice. This product video has Kite (https://kite.video/) vibes to it, pretty solid.
