I'm fairly certain that Churnbuster now supports other payment processors and gateways beyond Stripe.

Regardless of the name, this is a Rails engine for Stripe integrations put together by the guy who wrote the book on Stripe integrations for Rails. Definitely worth checking out.
Re:Poll: Do you prefer front end or back end work? on Monday September 09, 2013 @12:44AM (#6351896)
I prefer working on front end stuff, not necessarily because I think working on the back end is worse, but because it's more immediately rewarding.

With frontend work, you get to see the results right away, and interact with the user interface, and I guess that in a way it's closer to visual design part because of controlling interactions and making decisions (in some cases) about the way that users will interact with the app.

Re:Ember.js 1.0 Released on Sunday September 01, 2013 @04:00AM (#6309483)
Congratulations - This is really a huge step forward for both Ember, and front end development. I know that it has been possible to build rich front-end applications using JavaScript before now, but the API and tools around Ember are excellent and really make for a productive, convention over configuration development environment.
Re:Yeoman 1.0 Released on Friday August 23, 2013 @10:41AM (#6263867)
This is great - I've been using Yeoman since the first 1.0rc, and have to say that the tool chain is excellent and covers all the main parts of development with ease. Easy to bootstrap a new project, intelligent defaults for code organization, testing and minification for production.

I haven't found anything else that comes close for solely front end dev work.

Re:fish shell on Friday August 16, 2013 @11:50AM (#6224736)
I like the features it has, but every time someone post a link to fish shell, I wonder why I would switch from bash or zsh. Will this really be THAT MUCH BETTER? Will I just run into weird errors? Is it totally sh compliant? These are important things to know and should be on the homepage.

How is this better than using github pages?
Re:Have you ever uninstalled an app based on aesthetics? on Monday December 19, 2011 @12:35AM (#3368627)
Back in my PC/Windows days (~3 years ago) the aesthetics of all the linux distros I tried made me uninstall them. Something about the fonts just drove me crazy and I couldn't handle using them. For me, on an individual app basis, it really depends on the function. There are apps that look great but all the chrome makes a horrible UX, generally that is more likely to drive me away. The aesthetic should be at a certain level, but beyond that it's more about the UX for me.
I'm so glad they've payed someone to write this important guide.
Re:Hacker News Front Page Snapshot from Last Night on Friday October 07, 2011 @01:29AM (#3082783)
This is good to see - I don't think any one person has had more influence on the way we use computers/technology than Steve did.

It felt good to know that someone with his vision also had the power to create and guide new technologies and inovations within many industries. Now that singular force is gone. Hopefully Apple, or the other major players are able to continue to innovate and not just add better specs and more features.

I'm guessing that the community here was willing to make an exception for this unique and sad moment in time.
