Sounds like a memory leak

I don't get this type of mentality: 'tax the super rich because they don't care'
it seems like cheap populist manipulation
Re:A Built-in Web Server For PHP

sorry, but from scratch (no apache, no mysql, no php) to running 2 php/mysql sites in different virtual hosts takes less than 10 minutes on a modern ubuntu box (and probably most of the time will be spent configuring the site, not the servers). plus, i don't want to run a php -something in a shell each time i want to test something. also, while modern ORM's abstract away most of the database , I still wouldn't use sqlite on the dev machine for a site which will run on mysql in production

nice job. I'm surprised however that people are willing to pay for this type of service. Makes you wonder if people would be willing to pay in order to use twitter

I don't think any of my clients would accept dropping support for IE.
Re:Is IE9 a modern browser?

I think in the end, deciding to not support something is really a power they have, since this decision will influence the developers in not using that something. If IE won't support websockets, we won't use websockets because of lacking support in IE, so it's not really that big of a deal to them (the average end user doesn't decide what browser to use based on what support it has for web sockets)
Re:Software development: dealing with awful estimates
on Monday February 14, 2011 @11:48AM (#2217419)
Unfortunately, there are many situations in which you get 3 after the initial estimation, since 3 is a long process which usually can occur only after a deal was made with the client. And in most(every) case, the client wants to have a clear price before signing a deal. The price usually depends on the number of man hours required for the project, so the estimate has to come before step 3. It's a defective process, but difficult to correct.

True. This means that the result will be just improved vertical searches of products which is kind of what price comparator sites already do pretty well these days.

You have a good point, but we're not using the web today in the document oriented way of the early 90's.
Sure, if someone will invent a way to use the semantic data in a way that could generate income or market value for the data owner/publisher, then the SemWeb will take off.
However in the current presented form, I don't see a strong incentive for any profit oriented agent to just put out their data in this way.

I think this doesn't take economics into consideration. most companies aren't that interested in sharing their data in an anonymous way.

dude, don't be fanatic about it. it's a tool, not a mistic knowledge that once you gain, you'll master the universe
