This seems to be an ad for bolt.new?

Re:Ask HN: Recommend me some silent movies on Sunday December 01, 2024 @05:40AM (#42287603)
I watched Murnau's Faust movie some years ago, accompanied by a live music performance, which was great. I liked the staging and the set design. It's available on YouTube with subtitles.
Re:Breaking the 4Chan CAPTCHA on Saturday November 30, 2024 @04:37AM (#42280605)
When I was a teenager, I stumbled upon a music forum that required phone interviews for signing up. They had other interesting sign up rules, like you could not have silly user names (judged by the admin). I guess it served as an effective filter for their member base..
Trying to answer all your questions in order.

1. I prefer to meet coworkers in person. Also, lunch at the office is more convenient. Lastly, it's nice to leave work at the office at the end of the day. At home it's hard to "stop" working.

2. Never had a private office, but I am not sure I would need it, unless I had to do many phone or video calls.

3. Ideal office setup (not sure I understood your question right?) in terms of amenities:

- private desk or office w/ lots of daylight

- printer, whiteboards, flip charts

- bookshelf w/ technical literature

- conference rooms for workshops etc.

- lunchroom/restaurants and vending machines available

I wonder if this will make a difference... if you can afford the expensive flight to Japan to begin with, would you be deterred by spending 20$ more for that castle ticket(just taking that example from the article)?

Hopefully they can solve their overtourism problem.

That. I get the local newspaper, and I am not sure if I have seen any report of Chat Control at all in the last few weeks.. If it does get mentioned at all, it is usually a 5-10 line paragraph :|

Re:Japan's clothes-drying bathrooms on Saturday May 25, 2024 @11:07AM (#40475476)
I would like to have this to avoid the mold that seems to appear inevitably in indoor bathrooms.

When I lived in Japan, we used air dehumidifiers, clotheslines on the roof, or the huge tumble dryers at the coin laundry. Tokyo summer sun and wind make clothes dry real quick.

An acquaintance more or less seriously told me he's considering working into his 70s or 80s, I wonder how many other people are considering that option. It looks pretty bleak.
Conscription was suspended (in 2011, iirc).

^According to that article, they want to consider extending conscription to other essential services, like fire departments.

JR East had a 5-day pass which iirc only required you to have a foreign passport (vs being required to be a tourist for JR-Central/JR-West passes). Not sure if they still offer that, though.
Re:Paint.net on Saturday March 30, 2024 @12:55PM (#39876479)
The main thing I remember about Paint.net are forced updates and being the only software besides windows update to create system restore points. Always felt a bit overkill for updating a basic graphics program. It was great to have something free with more features than Paint and less complicated than GIMP though.
If I understood correctly, businesses are merely obligated to offer E2EE, where technically possible, and certain user data can still be given to law enforcement (while encrypted?).
Re:A Surprising Advantage of Vinyl (2011) on Sunday March 24, 2024 @09:00AM (#39806980)
To me, the vinyl sample sounded a bit 'louder', but as I understood the article, it should be the opposite way?
Re:Does anybody remember Google People on Sunday October 01, 2023 @07:57AM (#37725077)
I was doing a IT student job in high school and our team used it for a while, it felt like a mixture of instant messing and posting on web forums. My impression was, that it looked cool, but did not add much in comparison (iirc it also had collaborative editing? That was definitely cool).

Thanks, changing that setting in uMatrix worked for me.
