Any ideas on how this model compares to HipHop (Facebook's PHP-to-C system)?
Aaron... Aaron... Aaron! GET OVER IT!
House System, was, at best, about 10% as influential in the creation of Facebook as was Friendster. You take every opportunity to hate on Mark and Facebook, even when it makes no sense... Why can't you just move on? Mark/Facebook owe you nothing; quit deluding yourself. Go be productive!!
"I moved my primary residence from Silicon Valley to Seattle"Hmm, that's very specific wording there. In my world, filled with tax advisors and lawyers, this translates to "I'm trying to avoid paying California state income tax on capital gains I will accrue in the near future."
"I want to be clear here that the blame, to the degree that there was, is largely in the United States, not in Europe, not in Britain," Schmidt said.... Right. I would be more concerned if this remark wasn't coming from a man who is little more than the world's best-paid babysitter. I am sure he would be delivering a different line if he were talking to the New York Times.
Umm, why do you feel a need to downvote and reply to every criticism of this company?
Just because something is making money doesn't mean it is making enough money to be worth keeping around. Also, doesn't mean it's making as much money as someone thought it would. The VCs involved may have invested sensing a turnaround opportunity, or to combine OpenDNS with a portfolio company. I'm sure they received favorable terms for their cash.
This was a competitive VC deal? Halsey Minor has been trying to get someone to take OpenDNS off his hands for quite some time now; he needs the money. Don't believe everything you read, kids.
The previous era's coke and hookers were far more exciting.
(If you think I am joking, please see: Pseudo.com)
I was going to flag this, as it seemed a bit sensational, however I now understand what they are talking about. Google (and Microsoft) are huge fans of temp workers; I could totally see them shedding large numbers of these to please Wall Street.
The same thing is happening in Dubai, with far more dire consequences for those laid off. I'm sure someone will be writing an article on that very soon.
If this were Digg, this would be the point at which someone would insert an ASCII representation of Admiral Ackbar saying "IT'S A TRAP!"
People need to stop taking TechCrunch seriously. Michael Arrington is fed by venture capital firms and their portfolio companies, and has far too many conflicts of interest to be credible. Most of his posts are extremely biased and tilted toward the current thinking of those feeding him information. You gain no competitive advantage from reading this nonsense.
Here is a man who understands how to live.
In our industry, it tends to be that your first, and most important customer, is yourself. A lot of the greatest companies started by fulfilling a personal need; conveniently enough, you don't need to look at the DJIA to tell you whether you need to scratch your own back.
Great people are always competing with themselves (see, for example, great athletes). Of course, that requires notions/delusions of greatness, but that's another topic!

Too many entrepreneurs waste time observing/analyzing the actions of others. In boom times, this creates me-too companies; in bust times, this creates ridiculous hysteria (such as that which we are seeing now). Do your own thing. And quit submitting these stupid link-bait articles.
