He's not dead. No need to eulogize just yet.
If CEOs can be replaced, shouldn't founders be also (who are often CEOs)? What about all levels of leadership? Why can't AIs just run full companies autonomously?
Wikipedia is completely unreliable on any area of controversy, there are armies of editors who are skilled in fitting the articles to their agenda.
Why is there an Israel exception to politics on HN?
I just did. No question a number of these comments are completely inexcusable.
2 points:
1. A number of them, especially by more moderate voices, were made in the immediate days after Oct 7 when there was a tremendous amount of anger as a reaction to what happened.
2. The above comment and others like this were made by the extreme of the extreme right in Israel. I don't think that even Ben Gvir would utter such a thing.
Nobody with decision making powers is making any attempt to exterminate a people.
A lot these comments ignore a few basic realities:
1. Israel has immense, immense firepower over Gaza. There is no indication at all of any intent to genocide. This article describes a handful of civilians getting killed a day because of crowd control tactics in a war zone, that at most are inconsiderate of civilians life
2. The basic historical reality in that region is that violence has always started with the local Arabs who have never given up the hope of wholesale ending the Zionist project through violence.
There is no racial element here on the Jewish side, there is a racial element on the Arab/Muslim side.
This is a repugnant statement.
It is in fact, the Arabs in the region, who have been waving a 100 year war to deny Jews autonomy in their historic homeland. Oct 7 was just a manifestation of this. They are an implacable enemy.
To the extent a minority on the far right want to them to leave, there is no racial or genocidal dimension, just a desire to expel an enemy
I found that AI models really have a hard time with Android native, kept reverting to the latest libraries which don't have broad support. I had more success with Flutter but still needs a decent amount of course correction.
You still will need clear benchmarks as the reward for RL. With Chess, the rules are simple but you may not have a clear loss function for a complicated architectural challenge.
People, the most hawkish parties in the current government are also the most over represented in the army. Don't project US issues on everyone else.
The Hareidi parties are actually the least hawkish in the current government, and historically were equally willing to prop up left wing governments.
"Security" related issues are not on their agenda.
I suggest to put Karpathy in the title for visibility
Understanding existing code is in its wheelhouse (provided the infrastructure feeding the existing code to the prompt is working well), but I believe if you examine the totality of work a human programmer is involved in, an LLM is woefully behind in many areas (gathering proper requirements, potentially iterating/pushing back on requirements, architecting a solution on a macro level, other gaps an LLm cannot fill).
I would argue the opposite is true.
My experience with coding with LLMs is that the only thing it's really good at is generating boilerplate that it has more-or-less seen before (essentially a library, even if is somewhat adapted), however it is incapable of the creative thinking that developers regularly need to engage in when architecting a solution for their use case.
Please do! It's a fantastic series!
Except that people aren't dying as a result
Since when is the entire Europe a party in the war on Ukraine?
Why is this comment being downvoted?
I tested this prompt with GPT 3.5, GPT 4, Gemini and Gemini Advanced, they all answered the question straightforwardly, except for Gemini (plain), which did answer but then proceeded to go on a long lecture about science and religion.
On the contrary, they seem to be doing it quite fine without a union
"Make the slope approx 20-60 minutes", to be clear does this mean it should take that period of time to gradually go from 120 to 20-60?
So you're advice is basically to give up?

GitHub CoPilot leaves some (or much) to be desired as the sole in editor tool for comprehensive code generation. It would be great to get the current slate of tools out there and folks experience with them.(As an example, I recently discovered Continue.Dev and it appears to be an intriguing alternative or enhancer to CoPilot.)

Don't see how anyone could view the feds actions in the last few years and conclude that they had this as their mandate
No company deserves loyalty, but 2+ months severance at a tech salary isn't a tragedy. I wouldn't mind getting laid off at some of the companies
Twitter is by far and away the #1 place to exchange and debate ideas. It is critical that speech on it remains free.
That may have been the case in the very beginning, but it certainly evolved into let's scare the crap out of people to achieve whatever outcome we want.
Plenty of Jews were victims of Holodomor. I don't know which Jews you are referring to, but any high ranking Soviets who happened to be Jewish by birth involved in this, had thoroughly discarded their Jewish identity and were ideological Soviets in the extreme.
