That will become the next “corporate team building”
I've got ~ 70 git repos to move from AWS code commit to Gitlab and need to tweak config files in each one for the new hosting environment, so this should definitely help
And here I am with 40 down and 16 up on the south coast costing £50/month.

One day we will have fibre…

I am curious if photoshop is better installed from the App Store instead of through creative cloud so all the extra apps aren’t added. Core sync drives me mad.

Ask HN: How do you deploy your websites?

We currently have an ansi or script tied to a database of sites & git hashes. This is then run as a task to deploy to aws auto scale or individual servers (depending on site). We are at a position of changing our hosting and deployment methods and interested in other peoples approaches.Ideally we would have something that can rollback, automate any composer or on-server tasks (clearing cache...

Out of curiosity, what would be the best way of displaying a rough distance for location on these style apps? (Round to nearest mile? Show a town name?)

Pulling the data from a formatted Google sheet would be amazing. I can share that with parents to backfill… I feel a side project coming on
Re:Slack was experiencing an outage on Thursday May 20, 2021 @02:07PM (#27224814)
We’ve ran our own mattermost server for almost 5 years. Sits alongside our hosting environment and not had any outages, except maintenance. Some staff moan it’s a “poor mans slack” but it works well, keeps everything in our platform and virtually free.

So I ignore their groans

Thank you for Dark Reader... this has made a world of difference

Amazing. I still have one of those t-shirts in the wardrobe came into it’s own on endless zoom calls talking about site availability.
Re:Ask HN: How many projects do you work on at a time? on Thursday April 29, 2021 @01:33PM (#26984052)
Agency life - anywhere between 5 and 50 things from dev, to code review to project managing. Just depends what’s in the pipeline that week.

Takes some practice to be able to flip between different platforms and languages quickly but you get used to it

Was days away from refitting my home out with £2,000 of gear. Any other recommendations for routers, wifi and security cameras?

Re:A comparison of city building games on Monday January 04, 2021 @12:00PM (#25634101)
Are there any mobile versions that are good and not in app purchases / time based?

I wouldn’t mind paying for a game but not a fan of the time based, gem collecting price models. Would rather pay for the app and just play

We've used Mattermost for the past few years with great success. Currently looking at moving into Teams - however stuck with no migration path for data into Teams (can export OK out of MM though).

Will be a shame to see MM go

I’m now looking at dropping cloudwatch and pushing everything into new relic.

Ask HN: Moving Away from Gsuite to O365

Has anyone tried/failed/succeeded in migrating away from Gsuite for email and google docs. How did you achieve it and what happened with things like OAuth with other services? I am keen to unify everything as we have a few office accounts as well as Gsuite accounts.

Ask HN: How many screens in your workspace?

We are having a discussion about workspaces. We are running 27" iMacs, and although it's possible to have multiple screens I think that one screen with better "window management" to ensure the real estate is used as well as it can be, would be better than 2 screens and having the "neck twist" of moving between the two. What does your screen setup look like?

Re:Ask HN: Do you use an in-house CMS? on Tuesday March 05, 2019 @08:05AM (#19310223)
We used to have our own in-house CMS built in .Net (at least 10 years ago) and it was a pain to maintain and provide updates for, however we replaced that with MODX - which was better and we helped in the community alot and pushed changes back. It was nice knowing every line of code was ours - and having all the expertise inhouse was a bonus, but hiring was a challenge as everyone starts from 0 experience

This was easier but we still had some clients that "wanted wordpress" even if it was a bad design decision, so we would then need to educate them on the why and see if we could change there opinion.

These days we pick and choose the right platform for the job, between Laravel/MODX/Wordpress/Magento/etc.

Being more flexible has it's own drawbacks too though.
