man i love this fruit
Oh this is awesome! We actually have a really good use case for this, it should improve performance in our case a lot and help us stay away from WASM a bit longer. Thanks for sharing!

autarc (YC S24) | Full Stack Engineer | Germany | Hybrid | Full Time

We're looking for a senior full-stack software engineer based in Germany who wants to directly tackle climate change by building a local-first React/CapacitorJS/TypeScript/RxDB/Supabase app.

We're autarc (YC S24) the B2B operating system for energy installers in Europe. Our mission is to accelerate the installation of heat pumps and solar panels, directly contributing to the clean energy and heating transition.

Our app has some pretty cool features such as a LiDAR scan to collect data about rooms, an AR heat pump simulation, or real time heat load calculations that function entirely offline.

Learn more about the company here (be sure to watch our Launch YC YouTube video!): https://www.ycombinator.com/launches/LoX-autarc-the-os-for-h...

Texting from NZ: I don’t know how snappy your experience is but all I can say is that we‘re used to slower websites here in New Zealand. Switching between the tabs and having a <1sec delay is totally acceptable imho. It doesn’t feel „instant“ but instant enough!

Ask HN: Resources on predicting floods (with machine learning?)

Hey HN folks!I'm thinking about writing my software engineering bachelor thesis about predicting natural disasters (floods), because I think it's an interesting, relevant and technical challenging project. I got plenty of time, therefore prior to diving into the technical part I want to learn about floods and geography. Are there any books/ resources/ professors you can recommend to learn more...

Re:Ask HN: Best books read in 2022 on Saturday December 03, 2022 @07:55PM (#33849308)
Classic: Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. One of the best books I’ve ever read. Entertaining and deep thoughts included! The only philosophical, sci-fi comedy book you need.

Ah interesting! Repairability is definitely a great thing.

Ask HN: Are Phones Good Enough?

Everyone complains about the new iPhones. „The new iPhone is exactly the same as last years!“ I agree! But also I don’t know what I want to see in terms of new features. I think todays phones are perfectly fine and don’t need to be revolutionized. What do you want to see in the iPhone 15?

I second this. It’s not open source, yes, but it’s a fair one-time payment. No subscription or anything!
I'd be down haha - When do we start?

I just opened the Docker Desktop app... Was really surprised when I saw that I can't skip the update without the Pro subscription... Seriously??

Ask HN: Jobs require a different programming language

Let's say I want to apply for a couple "dream" job positions. My Swift lang knowledge is pretty decent, but many jobs I would like to apply for require "experience with C/C++". Having a good understanding of Swift and general concepts of programming language I'm wondering what to do... Learn C/C++ and do some OpenSource work before applying? Tell them "Hey, I don't fulfill your requirements,...

Re:Slack is down on Monday January 04, 2021 @12:02PM (#25634148)
And there we have it: Relying on big companies sucks. It's great as long as it works. Once a system breaks thousands, or even millions, of businesses suffer. (Of course they are also beneficial and a private server can also crash at any time + I don't wanna blame Slack, but we always have to keep this in mind).
