Re:Learning to Live with 50C Temperatures on Saturday August 31, 2024 @03:09PM (#41411109)
Quotes: From Dubai to Mumbai, cities are having to adapt to hotter summers, often exacerbating economic inequality in the process

the Gulf’s vast hydrocarbon wealth has allowed its better-off residents to luxuriate in western-style cities that defy the inhospitable desert.

Many of Dubai’s upwardly mobile still jet off to cooler climes during the peak of the heat, but those who remain can avail themselves of facilities that keep them indoors during the hottest parts of the day.

Dubai has ice rinks and an indoor ski slope, while emperor penguins and Arctic foxes live in Abu Dhabi’s SeaWorld, a vast indoor theme park. In the region’s shopping malls, the air is so chilly that one Dubai expat carries a jumper with her while shopping during summer, and says she looks forward to winter so she “can be warm again”.

Those determined to brave the blazing summer sun can swim in outdoor pools filled with chilled water or jog around the 1.14km air-conditioned outdoor path in Qatar’s Umm Al Seneem park.

How do you control the altitude? I would imagine 'heat/cool the air inside the baloon', but this would be too energy intensive?

Congratulations for a great non-saas market and product!

Thanks! How about overdose with Glycinate? Eg taking daily for sleep with a normal magnesium level in blood test.

What others would you recommend under $800? I looked at Motorola, but the camera quality is bad.

I found this useful https://www.dxomark.com/smartphones/

Using a Xiaomi now, but Android Auto doesn't work for me (other brands on the same car work fine)

Tell HN: Xiaomi phone is showing ads after updating to MIUI 14

I've updated my Xiaomi phone to MIUI 14. It lost the ringtone I've set, so I had to set it again. Before selecting the ringtone, it shown a full screen ad, then another ad after selecting it. This is not a free app from Google App store, it's Xiaomi's own system.I don't want to install a custom Android image. Is iPhone the only alternative to getting rid of ads trends? (Samsung TV also has ads)

Hi,

> the Gigabyte M28U 144hz 4k 28" monitor that I use

How is the brightness when set to minimum? I have an LG that with brightness set to 0 is too bright to use in the evening (compared to my laptop screen, for example, where brightness 0 is very dim, hardly visible, as it should be)

Thanks

Why, please? Everybody does this. Does it prolong the time to get to sleep?

As a Heroku customer, I'd appreciate a migration guide from Heroku to Northflank in your docs. What are the equivalent services (nodejs dynos, worker, scheduler, postgres, papertrail) and what are the steps to move. Thanks

Congrats! How did you manage to support so many camps? Do they use just a few reservation engines that you had to code for? There's no credit card requested for reservation?
