Amazon Payments account holders are required to provide a Date of Birth

Just got an e-mail from Amazon stating:"To ensure compliance with federal law, Amazon Payments account holders are required to provide a Date of Birth. You must provide this information before Sunday, March 31st, 2013 to ensure your account activity is not interrupted..."The same statements can be found on this...

I guess RSS is the best option. Even if you don't have to launch servers I still believe you need to confirm your phone number and some other things. I'm just looking for a way to share news with friends without having to forward the e-mails every time.
Re:AWS Marketplace on Thursday April 19, 2012 @09:56AM (#3862990)
A lot of us get those emails from amazon.com, like the one this morning, "Introducing AWS Marketplace -- Find and Buy Software that Runs on the AWS Cloud". This is great, but I have a friend who likes reading about these but doesn't want to launch servers. Is there some way people can subscribe to the Amazon AWS mailing list without creating an AWS account?

Apple acquired NeXT in 1996 (or was it the other way around?)

A two paragraph history of Cocoa and Objective-CCocoa and Objective-C are at the heart of Apple’s Mac OS X operating system. Although Mac OS X is relatively new, Objective-C and Cocoa are much older. Brad Cox invented Objective-C in the early 1980s to meld the popular and portable C language with the elegant Smalltalk language. In 1985, Steve Jobs founded NeXT, Inc., to create powerful,...

Ask HN: How do I study for a basic linux competency test?

One of the requirements for a position I'm seeking includes some basic linux server administration. I've had some experience so I'm not too worried, but I wouldn't consider myself an expert. As far as I know the test will have 10 open-ended questions about basic linux administration. How or what do I "study"?

Re:Growl 1.3 finally available on Tuesday October 04, 2011 @11:03AM (#3071186)
Good news: It's in the app store, works with Lion (10.7), lots of new features and support for GNTP Bad news: It's in the app store (for $1.99), you MUST have Lion to use it.

Re:Diff Dropbox previous versions easily from Google Chrome on Sunday September 18, 2011 @07:49PM (#3011619)
@wx77 - yes but that extension is a pretty sweet way to preview other extensions :)
Re:Diff Dropbox previous versions easily from Google Chrome on Sunday September 18, 2011 @07:30PM (#3011583)
That's exactly what I use it for. On big projects I use github and tower. But on smaller projects or for just general diffing things in the dropbox this is pretty amazing.
Re:Diff Dropbox previous versions easily from Google Chrome on Sunday September 18, 2011 @07:27PM (#3011574)
The extension says it needs:

1) Your data on dropbox.com and www.dropbox.com

2) All data on your computer and the websites you visit

#1 is obvious. I think it needs #2 so it can save a copy of the older version to disk and then launch the diff tool. If you want to check out the extension before installing it, see http://superuser.com/questions/337172/how-do-you-do-examine-...

Re:Ask HN: What should I do when a client doesn't want to pay? on Wednesday September 14, 2011 @01:37AM (#2995026)
this is pretty nice. thanks for sharing.
Re:Ask HN: What should I do when a client doesn't want to pay? on Wednesday September 14, 2011 @12:12AM (#2994864)
verbal contract, and then the first invoice, which they paid, included a list of items that were to be completed with the website project. no terms as far as payment due date tho. i think maybe payment of the first invoice with the items listed could count as acceptance of a contract in some places... you're probably right as far as moving on. it is fairly easy to turn off the website though - not sure if that is a ethical thing to do. of course not paying for work is also not that ethical.

Ask HN: What should I do when a client doesn't want to pay?

I have a client who doesn't want to finish a web project. He asked me for a "get out" price and I gave him one, which was very reasonable, but he thinks it's too much and doesn't want to pay. I collected an initial payment, but only for 20% because they are a "startup."I have control over the DNS, the site is on my server, and I am also the administrator for google apps and google voice for the...

3 Reasons not to choose Bluehost

I debated about a few hosting companies to use for a local organization. Bluehost seemed like a good option and I had worked with them before via other clients. They claim that they don't source anything and that their servers are fast and they limit them to 2000 users/sites per server. However, I realized a few things after signing up with Bluehost and wanting to get cracking on a new site:1)...

Re:Why did Google Apps reject my client's non profit? on Friday September 09, 2011 @03:00PM (#2979391)
thanks! that's very helpful! seems like lots of people have the same complain, and on several occasions google is actually reviewing and approving the request. i hope they will look into ours.

Why did Google Apps reject my client's non profit?

I have a client - an animal rescue shelter. They are a non profit and don't have much money. They could really benefit from a Google Apps (Ed/Nonprofit) account. They need to use the Outlook / Sync otherwise I would put them on the free version. I also noticed that on the Ed/Nonprofit version they let you custom brand a youtube channel - that would be very helpful for them, too. They are a real...
