It took me a while to put it together why Knoppix rang a bell. It's probably been 20 years that I last used it, but fond memories indeed!
Look into Morphe as a revanced alternative, it's by the peeps who make the Youtube patches and I find it better to use and it can draw on the same patches.

You don't understand why a site with the numbers of new and active bsky users is posted in response to the statement "Bluesky is still a thing?"

Reading about Spigot made me remember https://www.projecthoneypot.org/

I was very excited 20 years ago, every time I got emails from them that the scripts and donated MX records on my website had helped catching a harvester

> Regardless of how the rest of your day goes, here's something to be happy about -- today one of your donated MXs helped to identify a previously unknown email harvester (IP: 172.180.164.102). The harvester was caught a spam trap email address created with your donated MX:

I just realized I had a few Kindle Fires lying around in a box.

I wanted to give one to a friend who didn't have a good phone so she could listen to audio books. Turns out those old Fires are no longer updated and Android is so old I can't even install anything current on it.

I hope to change that with https://kindlemodding.org/ which was mentioned, so appreciate the writeup :)

I found watching the trailer to The Beekeper quite therapeutic for my scammy call center dislike (it's the best part of the movie imho).

I haven't worked with go - where could I host that myself?

Could I do this with the free tier of https://cloud.google.com/run/docs/quickstarts/build-and-depl...

Fun fact, Orforglipron got named when the lead scientist's cat sat on their keyboard. /s
Re:The German language broke my website on Saturday March 08, 2025 @12:29AM (#43297737)
Former QA from Germany here - some international companies supposedly develop their UI in German first because after that most other translations will fit ;)

Though, that doesn't help with bad translations. I often had a hard time explaining to my American business colleagues that just because I'm a native German speaker doesn't mean I will be good at translate their strings at 5pm so they could get out their launch... +1 for a professional translations!

DEI is just their latest obsession, since the old ones don't poll as well anymore (gay marriage, woke, CRT, SJW, ..). I don't think there is a bigger rationale behind this than we need a wedge issue to rile up the masses.

Would you expect that kind of book to make any difference for final sentencing?
Re:Gruen Transfer on Tuesday June 11, 2024 @06:39PM (#40652467)
I feel like that is a separate effect... making you walk past items you might want to get you to buy them vs intentionally confusing you so you forget what you came in for in the first place, which makes you more susceptible the the previous and many other effects.

That explains why I'm always thinking about turtles ...

OK, not true, I'm thinking of a hedgehog, because the German version of Logo we used in the late 80s used an "Igel."
