News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

mapster

It was a luxury at first, then an expensive consumer electronic, unless you bought off brand. The Zip drive was more transformative I think.
Re:Show HN: Gpl2 2d web paddle game on Thursday June 06, 2024 @04:37PM (#40602106)
My progression: Ok. Oh it’s like that? I got you. Oh fuck you. Oh fuuuuck you!!

Love this. Really need a paddle input device on the iPhone.

VA loan is for military and veterans only. It’s a perk for military service, of which there aren’t many. As a vet I’ve used it twice, though I support the program being wider to cover other national service like Peace Corps etc.
College is a maturing process intellectually. The thinking one does during this time is crucial. It’s not just about getting a J.O.B. Thiel has another agenda, maybe steering ppl away from ‘liberal ideologies’ because lest we forget he is a MAGA grifter
Very nice. I made it anxious by talking about weekend plans then how I was going to a show with all my closest friends. Then I begged the bot to join us. The anxiety went away but I made it worse again by begging. This is spot on.
Did you not see the part where applicants info was exposed? Make a few bucks by selling their data to <whoever> is 10000x worse than the chatr dev not securing the files.
They can’t because most of the people firing will also be held accountable and fired
Re:Ask HN: How are you using ChatGPT for yourself? on Friday December 29, 2023 @11:10AM (#38806454)
Which plugin do you use for real estate and what do you provide? What specific data do you have it ingest?
Re:Ask HN: How are you using ChatGPT for yourself? on Friday December 29, 2023 @11:05AM (#38806378)
Can this be used to provide a tldr on a long, detailed or rambling post?
Re:Return to office is 'dead,' Stanford economist says on Friday December 01, 2023 @10:33AM (#38487902)
Likely, though for companies w very skilled (expensive to replace) labor there is much sensitivity re hybrid or WFH. A lot of Bay Area companies are simple downsizing and moving closer to those employees who will be in office. Win win
Re:Ask HN: Why are HN comments so cynical? on Sunday September 24, 2023 @12:34PM (#37634600)
I think in this case it is long form hucksterism that is less about tech and more about hype and promo. There is nothing to learn or discuss - just a sales pitch.
Re:Ask HN: Anyone else finding Google Maps terrible? on Thursday September 21, 2023 @07:12AM (#37595968)
are you saying it has a stake in roadway advertisements and prioritizes routes that maximize billboard views per trip? That’s pretty depressing :/ yet also capitalism I guess
A third dimension being is unfathomable to a 2D being. And so on
Can you subtly integrate this into a game?
Very impressive. I was a xerox of you sans coding skills and entrepreneurship. I recall falling asleep while my C64 and Hess modem were being used my a ‘war dialer’. I did make a friend on a BBS who worked for Bell telephone - so we used UPS each week to ship each other envelopes of double sided floppies stuffed with fun games and utilities. I still get goosebumps when I hear a UPS truck pull open outside my home.
As an iPhone user I would like a Light version of this with notifications;

It’s Rogers 27th birthday in 2 weeks- send a card Send a nice update email to Sarah. You haven’t chatted in 4 months Billy has a lot of news of Facebook - you should connect

That would prod me to be a better friend when my focus keeps me glued to family and work.

Re:Show HN: Harvester – Shop small stores near you on Tuesday February 07, 2023 @10:11AM (#34693782)
Very nice! My initial thought is to specialize by solving a material sourcing problem for a niche industry and not general consumer.
Re:Show HN: Turning books into chatbots with GPT-3 on Wednesday January 25, 2023 @01:04AM (#34514939)
Can we someday turn a character into a chatbot? A character with a lot of dialogue and soliloquies. Imagine talking to your favorite fictional character chatbot or an authors, like a Steven King chatbot.

Ask HN: Son is major in CS, but doesn't code. Red flag?

His interests are more in socializing and hobbies than tinkering in python, C++, or javascript. He had a few classes in js and C++ and did very well, but its not something he continues to do on his own.I am not a developer or cs engineer, but my thought is for him to change majors if tinkering doesn't come naturally.

Re:Ask HN: Why do people stack plates? on Monday December 26, 2022 @11:25AM (#34139022)
I don’t stack plates at dinner parties, I clear each guests plate separately. In the kitchen I discretely clear the plate into the garbage then stack the plates in the sink, adding some water, then tending to the next course.
Re:Ask HN: Anyone else not so excited about the metaverse? on Thursday December 15, 2022 @12:31AM (#33995638)
Until we port consciousness to the meta or allow us to meet our virtual soulmates, it will be kinda pointless.
How do you stay engaged when ‘easy money’ rolls in nicely, month after month after month? I am in a similar situ and sometimes it feels easy to lose focus and play all the time.
You couldn’t sell it then accept the position?

Positive aspects? He sacked the US Capitol that got police killed, just because
Most of that is BS of course but I get your point. His companies have received billions in tax breaks and NASA contracts, then supports Trumpism, Kanye and segregation.
Its critical soemeone like Elon posit alternative theories as to the motives of Paul Pelosi’s crazed attacker. Or engage in racist and the now failed Trumpism. /s
