This is exactly why I force my kids to always create accounts as 30-years old (by specifying a birth data in the 90s), to avoid as much State interference as possible.
Did you know that if your child has a "kid" account you cannot follow him on google maps? We had to make one for "adults" in order to be able to do so.

I am not sure why you go on the subject of English speaking world etc.
Anyway, the models you tested with that query, which I am not sure why we think is a good benchmark, are local models running on a wireless device or they use datacenter and only convey the text back and forth?

Your usage of Siri today (probably on an old version of iOS) frankly has nothing to do with the article we are discussing. Sorry to say this but it is going to take time. Comparing the performance of a chatgpt running in a big data center with a model running locally on a phone device... give it a few years.

Hello, the self deport is for illegal aliens. There is no concern for who is in the USA with a valid visa to do science. In fact, the longest scientists and highly qualified people from Europe had to wait for a green card was under the Obama administration.

What are you talking about, why do you think that autistics are treated better in Europe, Africa, Asia? Also, people do not "hate" them, people in general hate everybody, don't play the victim

There are tens of millions of people doing a repetitive work every day, instead of being entrepreneurs. Just let them be, not everybody needs to dedicate their existence to maximizing their career opportunities, at any level.

Most people have great pleasure in owning and driving a nice car. The ones that do not are a minority. There are many reasons why cars (and trucks) are desirable and sought after possessions. It would be a logical fallacy that because you currently do not want one, people should build major projects with no regard to car parking.

Re:Frank Lloyd Wright's mile high skyscraper proposal (2021)

Excuse me, how are people supposed to get there? Parking should be provided for 100% of the occupancy.

Excuse me but what do you need 10Gbps internet for? What is the use case? I get the cheapest thing that Comcast provides (50Mbps) and it seems to be enough for the 5 of us at home, everybody always streaming, gaming etc. I have an old asus router I got used in 2015 that I repaired with zip ties otherwise it powers off.
At work we have 'infinite' internet (on a class A IP block) and I do not feel any difference in browsing or streaming (obviously I do if I need to transfer a file)
Re:Wild – A Fast Linker for Linux

That is baffling. Maybe the author assumes that a language with many safeguards will lead to keeping complexity under control for a difficult task.
By the way I had to lookup what incremental linking is, in practice I think it means that code from libraries and modules that have not changed won’t need to be re-packed each time which ch will save time for frequent development builds, it’s actually ingenious

I think we need this approach. Like many protocols, if there is enough research and medical support we can develop ways to go beyond current limits. Not everybody can stay for 8 weeks in a foreign country just waiting. Faster expeditions will also mean less waste and crowding for the same number of people reaching the summit.
Re:The Evaporative Cooling Effect in Social Networks

This has happened on Usenet for a while, according to my experience, and for many years it has been an Eternal September https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_September indeed. However, in the past few years, with many low quality users migrating to other places, and with a higher barrier to entry, good content has returned. I infer there are waves, cycles of evaporation and condensation.

I believe you are confusing "effective" with "ugly"
There is only one thing that could improve HN interface, and that is an NNTP mirror feed, so you could use any NNTP client you like.

Hello, isn’t part of what you were trying to achieve already taken care of if you use ‘volatile’ or a memory barrier? When writing Linux drivers these patterns are common. In some more exotic cases, even instruction barriers can be used to limit what the out of order or speculative execution is going to be

I lived most of my life in an alpine European village; water was chlorinated and flourinated, more than in my current US location. There was a huge difference in mineral content, US water being almost distilled (1 to 3 French degrees hardness) VS something like 15-20 in Europe

What I was looking for is a tool to delete all tags from mp3s so the media players only show the file name. Directories for the band, subdues for each album and each song as a file is how I organize music, but audio players often add their own semantics to what should be a simpler concept.
Re:Daylight Computer – New 60fps e-paper tablet

The product looks very good. However I did NOT like the marketing claim on the front page that points out it is "blue-light free". The claim that blue light is harmful is not really that scientifically proven and if one has blue light at home (awful LED fixtures) this device will happily reflect it, will it not? Please correct me if I'm wrong, I love building light fixtures and 3000K low voltage halogen light, which I believe would work so well with Your device.

I agree with you that people tend to grossly overestimate the bad effects of a new technology. For example my kids cringe if they catch me or my wife looking at YouTube shorts. My son - that has complete, unlimited access to his gaming PC, installed a Firefox extension to block YouTube shorts. I think the problem will self-regulate at some point.
However I made my iPhone black and white as suggested by others and I love it, I believe I'll keep it like this for a few days because it looks so cool. We will see if it leads to less usage.
