Re:Ask HN: How do you do accounting for your startup? on Thursday February 20, 2014 @03:35PM (#7273375)
We're a US C-corp.

Ask HN: How do you do accounting for your startup?

Its tax time for our (bootstrapped) startup, and we're deciding the best way to do it. We have subscriptions that people pay for using stripe, and we offer discounts on longer duration signups. My ideal solution would connect to my stripe, and put things right, including prepayments, stripe fee, and refunds. Hoping to gain from the community's experience.

Hundreds of calls and meetings. When does one work on the product? I'm a bit disillusioned by the apparent focus on funding over product in the valley. I hope it is a misconception of mine.
Re:New EC2 M3 Instance Sizes and Lower Prices for S3 and EBS on Tuesday January 21, 2014 @03:39PM (#7098175)
There is no small instance type in any current generation instance types anymore.
The unsubscribe link in the marketing email took me to this page directly. The marketing email was targeted to existing customers.
OP here. I sent them a tweet, and they replied with a link to a complaint form that - guess what - required me to enter my account number :)
But they want my Credit Card + Bank Account No + Cellphone no. This is a link that was in the email. My first instinct was that this was a phishing email. Then when the link appeared genuine, I guessed its their way to discourage me from unsubscribing.
How many spam reports does it typically take to affect IP reputation?
Re:Giving Up Paying Off $186,000 Student Loan Debt on Wednesday May 29, 2013 @05:02PM (#5789067)
One of the great advantages of third world countries - good education is cheap. A student at a top rated engineering school (iit/nit) in India pays less than ~$2k/year in tution, and about ~$200/month in other expenses. Sure, even this is not affordable to everyone without loans, but the salaries these people draw make the ROI tremendous. No wonder these schools are so hard to get into.
Re:Stray Dogs Master Complex Moscow Subway System (2010) on Tuesday April 30, 2013 @05:19AM (#5631130)
Now I feel quite stupid that I got pretty lost and overwhelmed in the Moscow Subway System when using it the first time. I had a printout of the map, don't speak/read/understand the language and had no internet connection. I think the dogs win this one.

Such stuff is a challenge for code reviewers. Reminds me, just to bug my code reviewers, I'd put in things like:

Oh ok - good that the image was not picked up from a path in the install folder. I thought that was the case! That would have been bad.

The way this code looks, it opened up a backdoor into the app to load any code embedded in the image, and execute it with the app's credentials - including access to app's in memory data. Major security hole for an enterprise app given that this could be used to override assembly signing. Just change the image, and the app would load and run any code embedded in that background image!
