Ask HN: Are LLMs replacing open-source ecosystems for personal project codes?

It's now easier to prompt an AI for a specific problem and later release the code on git, without thinking or researching a bigger goal that there could be an existing project where my contribution would be much more meaningful and sustainable...How could this fragmentation be saved in favor of existing projects?

It's interesting to see so much nationalism in the context of technological progress at this post... I always thought that people who are interested in progress have a different way of thinking.
its not about the size... its aboout the quality...even not available everywhere... fibre optic is threaten as a common good....
not really architecture only, but SE in general, (and only available in German - but perhaps in the age of llms can easily be translated...)

true, but where can I find the smallest functional react website where react is needed...?

in the bio ... "has over twenty years of experience building highly accessible and usable web applications"

why not take the html5 standard (see https://html.spec.whatwg.org/ ) and if needed (dont think so for these use cases... "for clients ranging from energy companies to political parties") htmx or alpinejs ...

so what..?

if not half of the hn audience wouldnt have build bloated (react or others) websites, sure we wouldnt need more than 8gb memory just for browsing...

Depending on your requirements but you could get a cheap s3 storage or VPS from contabo hosted in Singapore … and then plug it in as kind of a fileserver (or a selfhosted vpn eg headscale

Great work!
I am more confused - a "commitment engine" ? Like crowdfunding? Seems its a static page which does not reflect the actual demand: https://github.com/gunta/PRiority/blob/5f05aea3b499f7830a82f... - so where is the "system underneath"?

"In 24 hours, I've collected hundreds of dollars in binding commitments for a product that doesn't exist yet " - so the original statement "From tweet to deployed product in three hours" means actually 'from tweet to non-existing product in 3 hours' - so what you spend these 3 hours on? Why you need claude for it? what does this have to do with software?

Talking about the actual development: "The GitHub bot implementation? That's the easy part. I can do that in less than 3 hours." - if you can do so, anyone can do, so why to buy your 'product'?

'build it and they will come,' I think thats a very outdated view - basic marketing classes teach you how to validate your product market fit, especially if you go into new markets.

all in all, "Why Everything You Know About Software Is Now Wrong" just reflects on how you misunderstand profesional software companies - they dont build for fun or try out something new - they build to deliver solutions for customer requirements.

But perhaps I am wrong - perhaps stripe already knows that "everything you know about software is wront", and they dont "spent months planning architectures?" and achieved 99.999 uptime with claude and abit of luck: https://stripe.com/blog/how-stripes-document-databases-suppo... . I will think about it once again when I stuck in Tokyo underground caus the entire IC system goes down as it was reimplemented within 3 hours by vibe coding :)

I don’t understand: “ I launched PRiority yesterday. From tweet to deployed product in three hours” Beside a landing page which could be done in Wordpress since years without that much compute power, what is the product?

Re:The Future of Htmx on Wednesday January 08, 2025 @05:16AM (#42632740)
Iam using templ https://templ.guide/ in combination with htmx. I rebuilded various of html components of https://www.patternfly.org/components/all-components/ - but as you mentioned, I also couldnt find good vanilla JS libraries for more complex components - and I dont feel I am capable to build a e.g. battle tested datepicker from scratch.

How others handle this?

P.S. I have seen some people using e.g. flowbite, but I havent tried it out: https://github.com/themesberg/flowbite/issues/812

Re:The Future of Htmx on Tuesday January 07, 2025 @02:32AM (#42620217)
I briefly evaluated htmx with a go backend - and for simple navigation etc it works quite well. where I struggle is using more advanced web-components like datepickers etc. - as I dont want reimplement it from scratch.

any advise from others how they handle complex client side components?

Re:Ask HN: Simple multi-user interface to trigger builds? on Monday November 25, 2024 @12:32AM (#42233525)
woodpecker ci has multi-user webinterface, can be hooked up with multiple auth provider and multiple worker agents. it also supports cron: https://woodpecker-ci.org/docs/usage/cron
sounds like nice projects, but from my experience the maintenance costs are much higher than the pure hardware costs. In addition, certification costs shouldnt be underestimated, especially for radios - so any m2 / minipcie solution for lower volumes is much cheaper. Lilygo [1] got quite impressive low cost devices... but there its the same, limited certification and not sure about industrial temperature/humidity capabilities.

what about contabo?
