Re:Apple fined $368 million after losing FaceTime patent lawsuit on Wednesday November 07, 2012 @12:26PM (#4754208)
How soon until we hit the patent abuse endgame, where all technology companies lay off everybody but the lawyers and just sue each other into oblivion?

"random .exe files from "HaKerD00dz" with animated gif avatars from some PHP forum that you have to trust"

LOL!

Rankings are inherently mutually exclusive. Not everybody can be a winner.

Tell me how Bing is better at solving this problem.

Re:Internet Explorer is evil on Sunday November 04, 2012 @03:43PM (#4740963)
How is WP8 going to break the web? They have something like 2% of the market, which is hardly a monopoly that can be swing around.

Also, are the IE shenanigans news to anybody? There does seem to be a contingent of fresh-faced webdevs who think Microsoft's reputation for evil is overblown. It wasn't; they certainly did a lot earn it.

Re:Google Android Director on Nexus Strategy on Friday November 02, 2012 @12:41PM (#4733466)
"Yeah you Android fanbois are jealous about that sweet AirPower technology, huh?" "Android has had it for two years now!" "Yeah... you're jealous."

Clever. I wonder if the illusion is broken if you actually speak Korean. I would definitely notice if someone chopped and reassembled random words in English.

Multiline support, please.
"Consumer Watchdog" is more shrill and even more opaque.

Microsoft invests an amazing amount of resources into the creation and dissemination of FUD. Here's their internal manifesto: http://techrights.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/comes-3096....
Re:James Joyce's "Ulysses": Why you should read this book on Sunday October 14, 2012 @09:51PM (#4653338)
Waving my hands about the syntax and myriad literary devices in the book to distract the teacher from the fact that I had no idea what was actually going on. :)
Why can't the "privileged classes" discuss these issues and have open discourse with women? As long as both parties have open minds, it seems like a far better way to walk in someone else's shoes.

I'm gay and think that it's hard for many straight people to understand some of the setbacks I've encountered - but I would MUCH rather talk about it to achieve better understanding than letting people assume that I'm seething and angry all the time.

When I went on a foreign exchange trip to China in HS, I brought along a bunch of coursework for my other classes back home. Of all the books I chose to write a report about, I chose Ulysses, because of its critical reception.

Once I arrived in China I cracked open the book for the first time, and the nightmare began. I searched in vain for any English-language bookstore I could find in the hopes of replacing Ulysses with something more... comprehensible. Writing that report was more painful than wisdom teeth extraction.

Smooth! I loved the little touches, like the parallax effects on the previous panes as the window stretched vertically.

LOL!
Re:Tech Journalism is Broken on Sunday October 14, 2012 @02:25PM (#4652087)
What sucks is that a lot of good places like The Atlantic and Wired are also applying their brands on link-laden blogs with no editorial standards whatsoever. It's short term gains at long term losses to their credibility.

I would like to start a curated list of high quality journalism sites with a policy of delisting the sites that go The AOL Way, given sufficient evidence provided by users. It would be awesome if we could remove the profit motive from stooping to scrape the bottom of the barrel.

And the rebuttal, "Yes, I want to be writing Game of Life easter eggs"
Re:Zynga stock plummets below value of its cash and real estate on Wednesday October 10, 2012 @09:06PM (#4638929)
It's heartening that their business model is failing. I hope it means that it keeps ever more developers from falling into that short-term trap of extracting value through psychological manipulation instead of creating things that are useful or enriching.
I would like to pay the folks that manage the wonderful apt software repository. Not one red cent to the Unity team, though. I don't like where they are taking Linux.

Unbelievable. Unnnnbelievable.
I went to the Sony store to savor the first OLED television available for purchase. Oh man, it was sweet.
Same deal in the University Village store near University of Washington. They even set up a tent to pitch to the standing queue for the latest iThing du jour.

Hilarious. Some suggestions: "Stop doing XXXX now", "YYYY is dead", and "Google's I'm Feeling Lucky button disappears: the beginning of the end?"

Here's a similar spoof from 13 years ago. Wow, Slashdot really hasn't changed much, has it? http://www.suck.com/daily/99/12/13/daily.html

I'm not sure you can use competitors' logos like that.
Re:15 Years after the First Slashdot Post on Thursday October 04, 2012 @01:22AM (#4611013)
Are you a hacker? Do you like news? If you answered "yes" to both of these questions, then HNAA might be exactly what you're looking for!

Happy 15th birthday! I posted as AC for the first year or two and sadly missed out on the "low UID" boat. I was 15 at the time of its launch.
