Ask HN: Protecting domain reputation from fake registrations

I am sure all popular services have users who try using emails of others (ex: celebrities) to register. This can be done as a joke or as a coordinated attack.Obviously, those who get unexpected notifications add them to their spam directories. This affects domain reputation and the brand. What are the best practices? Rate limits? CAPTCHAs? Anything else?

Thank you!
Interesting thoughts and links. Thank you.
Wow, I need some time to process your reply. So much food for thoughts. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for taking time to share your thoughts on the topic.

Totally. Now I realize that Instagram is here to stay at least for a while. Posts & stories is a perfect combination in their case. As a result we don't see as much spam in the feed like on Twitter. Want to post more? Just do stories.

Your thoughts on Discourse are also interesting. Added it to my notes. Will give it a try when there is a moment.

Based on the fact that more people are going remote, this is a bit concerning for me. It would be awesome to have a place online where you can make friends based on different hobbies / profession.
> I do miss searchable public forums specializing in topics.

Just run the following command in your terminal: "cal 9 1752"
It depends on your knowledge of these tools. But you seem to be a wise guy. So I would say you are totally right, since I don't want to waste my time arguing.
this is very reasonable in terms of flippa and other tools. in terms of 3 different languages - each is good in its own way. i would agree that rails could be totally replaced with node. but overall picking the right tool for each specific problem allows to move faster. you probably know how many languages are used at the backend of github, google, twitter etc.
